  2. 6/20: rain is here for the next 3 days or so, so I did some weight training to strengthen/heal my right elbow; also did some more grip and pre-shot routine/setup work.
  3. 6/19: slow takeaways to make sure my wrists are in good position at the top, and then focusing on turning the hips and shoulders back to start the downswing instead of casting my arms first.
  4. 6/18: worked on grip and setup -- my hands have been too close to my body lately; also worked on slow takeaways, and a forearm rotation drill.
  5. 6/17: full swing irons in the yard; these seemed better than the range trip a couple days ago; a little quick on the backswing, though; need to work on tempo some.
  6. 6/16: more chipping and pitching practice, working on proper dead-hands technique.
  7. 6/15: hit a bucket at the range today, working on full iron shots and distance wedges. It was one of the worst sessions of my life. I was using some new-to-me irons, but that wasn't the reason I hit the ball so bad. The distance wedge swings felt completely different from the shots in the yard with the foam balls. I don't understand that.
  8. 6/13: 15-yd pitch practice, focusing on a dead-hands technique.
  9. 6/12: pitching and distance wedge practice in the yard with foam balls and my 5-yr son; he swings it OK, for a kid.
  10. 6/11: finished Pelz's Short Game Bible last night; worked on proper finesse swing (dead hands) technique.
  11. 6/10: continuing the overhaul of my short game: 15-yd pitch practice.
  12. 6/9: more pitching and chipping practice; some slow-motion full swing work to work on getting the club from going back too flat on the backswing.
  13. 6/7: rain finally let up, but the driving range was still closed, so I spent about an hour at the short game green chipping and pitching. I tried some cut lobs with a lob wedge, but the proximity to a parking lot made me a little nervous. I don't need to blade one through a windshield.
  14. 6/6: more forearm release drilling. I also hit some controlled (i.e. not killing it), full 9 irons in the yard with foam balls, focusing on a full finish with a good release.
  15. 6/5: forearm release drill, to hopefully help cut down on weak flares to the right next time out; also read Ch. 10 on Short Game Equipment in Pelz's Short Game Bible.
  16. 6/4: finished the sand shots chapter in Pelz's Short Game Bible; it's an information overload for bunker shots. Worked on smoothing out my distance wedge swing with a full finish, as well.
  17. If I knew it was my only chance to ever play that course in my life, I'd re-tee until I finally hit one on the green. If I card a 15, so be it.
  18. 6/3: read the first part of Chapter 9 in Pelz's Short Game Bible and worked on sand shot setup and swings.
  19. 6/2: weight training for arms/elbows; continuing to implement Pelz's 3x4 distance wedge swings to improve my short game.
  20. I crashed and burned the last time I tried to do this; then, my right elbow flared up for a while. Let's try again... 6/1: weight training to strengthen my arms and elbows.
  21. If this doesn't work, call their 800 number ( 1-800-800-9936 ). I did this last year trying to get more info on a set of irons I bought in the mid-90s. Their CS rep forwarded it to the Golf Dept., where one of their golf sales specialists called me. He could not locate precise build specs, but gave me what was common for their clubs from that time period.
  22. The best buy I've ever made was a mid-60s Ping Anser for $2 at a flea market. I later picked up half a set of Cobra SS-i irons (4, 7, 8, PW) at the same place for $10. I've since spent more on a Ping PP58 grip ($8.50) and a headcover ($20 for a Stitch bonesman, which may qualify as 'bad' ) for that putter, but it all looks nice in the bag.
