  2. My theory is that you should wait for the people infront to finish the hole. I would not be happy if a ball landed near me. That being said, I was out last week on my own (im 32), there were 2 older men infront of me - I would say 70ish. One player wasnt too bad, the other was pretty poor. Instead of allowing me to play through, they held me up on every hole so on a long hole (the course was all par 3s) I waited until they were on the green and I took my shot. It was a good 50 yards shy of them (and the best driver shot i have had by far). I finished the hole just a they had tee'd off and the gits still never let me play through.
  3. I thought I would come back to this. In January I ended up getting a second hand Cobra Max driver (£35) from a club pro I know. I went a couple of times in January and was getting around 135-150 yards, more recently I have managed to get to around 165 yards. Still a bit on the short side, but at least I am not losing a full shot or 2 on the longer holes anymore, more like 20-30 yards.
  4. Thanks for the replies. I ended up going to see a golf pro I know who gave me a couple of clubs to try out at a driving range. Of the 2 he gave me, I ended up opting for a cobra max. I was consistantly getting 150 yards from it, albeit it with a hefty hook. But it is about 140 yards more than the Ping G15 I was testing. I know 150 is not great, but when I learn to hit it straight and with a bit of practice and the roll, I can hopefully start getting maybe 200 from it.
  5. I do not have a driver as yet and from the reviews I have read I have narrowed it down to a handful that i think would be ideal for me to get some experience with before investing in a decent one. I have been offered a nike covert 2.0 driver that has been used a handful of times for a good price. The issue is that it comes with a senior shaft. I am 31, so I would not quite class myself as a senior just yet. My handicap is not great, probably around 25, although I have managed the odd par and birdie (once). My swing I do not think is the fastest, although I do not know how fast or slow (I am not sure if you needed that info or not). So, am I likely to notice an real difference between a normal shaft and a shaft designed for seniors?
  6. I currently have a really old driver not a 460cc. I do not really want to hit balls with my current driver as it will be gone in a month or so. Thats why I am looking for some pointers, before I go and get one.
  7. I have been playing with just irons for a while and need to really get a driver for next year. I have used a driver but I am a bit useless with it so I want a nice easy driver to hit whilst I get used to using one. Im obviously not looking to spend a fortune, so a couple of years old/second hand is fine. I have had a few lessons and have recently changed my swing so it is not the fastest of swings and my handicap would be around 20-25 if I had one (based on some quick calcs). I have looked at quite a few but really can not whittle it down: xhot/xhot 2 Cleveland 588 Cobra Biocell Nike VRS covert 2.0 Taylormade jetspeed Any thoughts? Or any others to add to the mix? Cheers.
  8. I play with one of my mates. I pretty much beat him everytime (thats not bragging as neither of us are great), I used to beat him by about 10 shots on a full course. He then went for some lessons and I started beating him by about 15-20 shots, he went worse! As time has gone on he has started getting better, doing things the right way. I then went and got some lessons and I started playing worse! He actually beat me. As time has gone on I have started getting back to the scores I used to get. My point is that taking lessons appears to mean you play worse in the short term but then once you get used to doing the right way, you get a little better than you were. Im not really a fan of the driving range, I get bored.
  9. Post your goals personal golf-related goals for 2017. Be specific and thorough. - Become more consistant. I have birdied a par 3 and taken 10 shots to do a par 4 in the last month. It would be nice to know that I can consistantly get within 1 of a par. Elaborate on how you'll go about achieving these goals. Details, people! Practice practice practice. I will also be buying a driver after having lessons. I have been playing with just irons so hopefully that should help take a shot off some of the longer holes.
  10. Short and sweet, I used to play golf as a kid but gave it up when going to high school (it wasnt "cool"). Recently started playing again after an 18 year hiatus. I seem to have remembered bits and fogotten other bits, sadly the bits I have forgotten are the bits I was good at and the bits I have remembered are what I was poor at :P Im not doing too badly, but I think I need a few lessons. I have no idea what my handicap is but it wont be great. I played my first 18 holes in 18 years last week. It was a Par 64 and I managed it in about 93 so plenty ofroom for improvement. Plenty of questions soon to follow about what I am doing wrong and how to fix it
