I have a set of old Tommy Armour blades that I drag out on occasion just for fun.

Our indexes are fairly close, and my scores are very similar to yours. I've had a few rounds of over 100 this year, but that was on courses with slope of 130+. I'm like you, typically in the low 90s. The best possible scoring record he could have given the circumstances (10 scores of 100 exactly assuming 70/120) produce an index of 26.9.

How are you a 21 hcp if you don't break 100?

Any iron shot that I have to hit on a low trajectory. I struggle a lot with that one.

i play from the whites unless it's a really short course (< 6000 yards).

Anthony's biggest problem (and my biggest reason for being glad he's gone) is his inability to take responsibility for the shots he hits. Everything he did, according to him, was "great" and "perfect" and "I thought I made it". Then he'd act like a 1st grader when the shot doesn't go as he thought it should. The bottom line is if the ball doesn't go where you intended, then it wasn't a good golf shot. Golf isn't about hitting it flush, hitting it long, or making good swings. It's about getting the ball in the hole. When he hit hybrid and airmailed the green, and then said "I hit a great golf shot" I just about puked. I can't stand it when someone exercises poor judgment, then blames the poor outcome on everything but the person holding the club. He's a good player who thinks very poorly, and he won't get far in the game if he doesn't change that.

1. I need to track my putting better. I think I did this, but I'm not positive. 2. Did this several times. 3. Did this a few times. 4. I'm so damn close, about a half stroke short. I made good progress this year - managed a few rounds in the 80s after not breaking 90 last year. Slowly but surely... hopefully I can make good use of my time this winter and come out next spring ready to tackle a new set of goals.

#8 at Legion Memorial is a par 5, dogleg right with water down the right side near the green. I pulled my drive into the left rough. I took hybrid for my second (a mistake in retrospect) and hit a miserable low screamer that found the left rough again. I found my ball at the bottom of a small mound about 105 yards from the green. It was also behind a squatty spruce tree. I had a look at the green, but had some challenges. I had to get it up fast enough to clear the mound, which ruled out a low running shot. I also had to keep it below the tree branches, which ruled out a normal wedge shot. I opted for a sawed-off cut 8 iron which came out beautifully, and I two putted from 15 feet for a very unlikely, but very satisfying, par.

where does a draw stop and a hook start?
niblick replied to tlewsadder's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I guess I'd have to agree, but it would depend on the shot. I've got no command of a fade, so this is something I deal with all the time. I'll frequently make solid contact on approach shots and watch them start right at my target and "draw" well left into up and down territory. To me that's not a draw. -

It's not a question of distance. If I intended to hit a right-to-left shot and I do, and I hit my target, it was a draw. Any miss to the left and I hooked it. -
65-70 is the longest shot i'd attempt with my lob wedge.

It feels alot more natural to me. Overlapping feels too tight to me, if that makes sense. I have fairly small hands, so I think the interlocking grip allows me to have lighter grip pressure which is always a good thing. My ball flight hasn't really changed that I've noticed.
-
I always used an overlapping grip up until a year ago when I hurt my left index finger playing flag football. It was painful to practice, but I could use the interlocking grip without pain. I switched, and haven't gone back.

Shot 88 yesterday on a course on which, prior to yesterday, I'd never broken 90. 43 on the front, 45 on the back. I didn't hit my irons particularly well, but my wedge game was sharp and I putted fairly well so I was able to stop the bleeding quickly when I did hit a loose shot. I drove the ball well all day, which was likely the biggest reason I was able to score halfway decent.

I got hit in the back by a playing partner. I was ahead and to his right, and he bladed a low screamer that slammed directly into my right shoulder blade. Had I been looking I could have avoided it, but I had my back to him walking toward the green. It hurt like hell, but wasn't that big of a deal. I had a welt for a few days. He felt awful though and kept apologizing for the rest of the round, so I didn't make a big thing out of it.

Bulk white 2-3/4" tees. I don't mind grabbing a broken one for a par 3, but I hate needing to scrounge.
-
I made par on 4 in a row last month on my way to an 88, my low round of the year. The first and fourth were up and downs on par 3s, so I was pretty pumped about it.

When I got fitted for my driver I was hovering between 108 and 112. Ball speed cracked 170 a few times. I hit a pretty high ball, so if it's into the wind it goes nowhere, and downwind carries forever. I'd really like to be able to hit it low with my driver - I think that will be one of my goals for next year. I played in a scramble last weekend. 8th hole was a 351 yard par 4. We used my drive, and had 58 yards to a front pin. Probably the best drive I've hit in a long time.
-
Mine are 2 and 5. I practice almost daily on my lunch break, but weekend rounds come twice a month tops. And like you, I try to do it early. The only exception to this is when I can schedule a round for business and do it during work hours. This is also nice because then I can expense it.

Best Golf Balls you have ever found at the Driving Range
niblick replied to InternalGolf's topic in Golf Talk
I've found both ProV1 and ProV1x, as well as the occasional Nike One. Anyone who hits driver further than 180 from the whites and hooks the balls is going to put it in the range. I find a non-range ball in almost every bucket, but rarely are they keepers. -
A friend topped a fairway wood so severly that the ball was driven straight down into the ground, flush with the grass. He looked to trying to see where it was flying, and we all just pointed at his feet and howled with laughter.

Willow's Run, Legion Memorial, Walter Hall and Nile are the usual haunts. I've actually never played Wayne. I hear it's pretty bad. :)

Hey welcome. There's a few of us from the PNW here. We should organize an outing before the weather goes to hell. :)
