Saturday I played in a tournament at the Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim Wa with my FIL and another father/son combo. I normally shoot in the low-mid 90s, so making the turn at 46 I was feeling pretty good. I string together a couple of pars, nothing worse than a bogey until the 17th. 145 or so par 3, FIL goes first, water to the left, his shot hits to the left of the pin, and rolls off the green into the first cut. I'm up next, and aim just a little right of the flag. I hit my shot, and it looks okay, hits the green and takes a turn right towards the stick. Starts rolling, and then disappears into the cup. My first Hole In One. Finish with a 40 on the back, for a 86, which is just dandy. Our team wins the best ball part of the tournament, I win the low net, and of course win the KP on that hole(sadly, all of that money went to playing partners beverages). All the rest of the weekend I just wanted to go out and try to replicate that on a course. I go from not looking forward to league to wanting it to be every day in the span of about 13 seconds.

I also play a 9 hole league, and our 4 man team needs 5 points (out of 12 ) next week to get a bye into the championship round. I play as the 4th (highest HC) on the team but my HC has dropped 6 or so strokes from the start of the year (to go with the 7 last year) and I find it increasingly difficult when I have to give 5,6,7,8 or even 9 strokes to the other 4th players. Anyone have any advice for dealing with that?

On the tee, never. I set my ball, back off 2 steps, look at the ball, and then step up and hit. If I practice swing, then I start thinking and that is not good for me. For anything else, I will take practice swings until I have what I want, sometimes takes 1, sometimes 4.

Playing in the league, had to give 7 strokes to a fellow. Was pretty close, even with the disparity until 16. Hit a good drive, and a good 2nd leaving me 120 or so from the pin(par 5). Under a tree, so I dont want to hit a normal shot, so I try ot punch out and run up to the hole. Use a 6I and hit it flush. Goes way over and into the bushes. Have to take an unplayable, put it on the green from there and 3 putt for an 8. End up losing the match by 1.

Managed to get 36 in yesterday at Gold Mountain, shot a 94 on the first 18 and a lifetime best of 86 on the second. They had temp greens which I had never played on before on a couple of holes, and I can barely move now, but yay 86.

New set of irons, a hybrid, 18 balls, 200 tees, and a WSU golf set. Now as soon as get my 2nd daughter out, gonna try them out.

Shot an 88 for my first breaking of 90. Missed 5 birdie putts inside of 10 feet, 3 par putts. Need to work on that inside this winter. Think that will be it until spring

They thought it was by Germany.

Try having to explain where Idaho is to an east coaster.

I took 2 golf PE classes. Started in the beginner, and it was just that. Very very basic. They started us on the range and putting green for the first couple of weeks, then it was 2 rounds of golf a week for the duration. The intermediate class was better, focused on swing mechanics a bit, tried to teach a bit about different kind of shots (punch, flop, that sort of thing). The intermediate was more fun for me, as the golf that was played was more golfish, instead of hitting a ball 8-10 times towards a hole.

Shot a 9 over 45 playing with my Dad (2nd time golfing), and Uncle (very long layoff for him). Had 3 2 putt pars in 9 holes, ties my record, as soon as I become better at putting, birdies will come my way.

On a dinky muni Ive never played before, par 5, severe bend to the left about 350 from the tees. Hit a straight tee shot, ended up on left side of fairway. Figured since I slice the crap out of my 3 wood, Id just rear back and clobber it. Once I hit it, noticed it went straight, lost sight. Figured it ended up OB in the little dead zone that was there trying to prevent cutting across is 2. Hit a provisional, just in case. Found the ball on the right side of the fairway, about 30 yards away. Hit a chubby PW and 2 putted for par.

Par 3 8th at Gold Mountain, 149 out teed up and grabbed a 7i. Was going through my routine, and heard my opponent say the yardage, which was different that what I thought. Went back and grabbed my 6, and put it within 8 feet. May earn a trophy ball for that one.

Shot a lifetime best 44 on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain. Didn't attempt to hit the driver at all today, hit my 3 wood which was a great decision as I hit 5 of 7, and the distance was just as good as my driver. Had no blow up holes again, and putted so much better than Im used to, think I had 15 total. That makes consecutive 44s during league, and with 3 weeks to go, feels like I am hitting my stride.

League night, I am up 2 strokes (have to give opponent 2), and all square on holes. Par 4 9th, tee shot way right, gracious bounce, still behind 2 huge trees with just a little opening. Downward lie (hate them anyways) no clue on yardage as I wasnt trying to green it. Grabbed a 4i, and gave it a smooth swing, missed the left tree by a pine needle length, and then it went over the hill out of sight. Ended up about 4 feet off the green, pitch and a 2 putt for bogey and the win.

Shot a 44 for 9 on the easier of the 2 courses at Gold Mountain(best 9 hole score for me and its not even close). Nothing worse than a double, first time Ive accomplished that this year. Didnt hit the driver well at all (2 not past the reds), everything else was splendid.

Before my first league year, the new guys go out and play a round to get some idea of a handicap for league purposes. Having not golfed in years, was just a little bit nervous. Tee shot on 1 hooked it way left. 2nd shot about 10 yards, divot went 30. Finished the hole in 12 on the way to a 9 hole score of 65. Thankfully nothing even close to that since, and shaved 8 strokes off my HC since then.

Best shot this week was an approach on a par 4, I was maybe 110 out, green was slanted left to right. I couldnt aim for the center as I was behind a pine tree, so I shot for the berm on the left side hoping it would kick and roll close. Came thisclose to hitting a tree branch, but it hit the berm, and started rolling. Ended up about 8 feet away.

Shot a 95 yesterday, first time Ive shot sub 50 on both sides. Hit 3 of 4 greens on par 3s (one of the things Im working on), and took 2 snowmen on par 5s. Damn 3 wood hates me. Managed to win my league match, so was very pleased with my play. Its funny, best round Ive shot at that course, and I lament the 3 putts and the fat irons hit. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

In our mens league tournament 2 months in a row I have won low net and our team has taken bestball for a total of 50 dollars. I was also 8 inches short of taking $20 for a kp today as well.

On a par 5, hit a fair drive that got a generous kick from a fairway bunker berm, left me 200 or so to the green. Maybe could have reached from there, but I decided to lay up and give myself a chance to hit close for birdie. 2nd shot ended up about 60 yds out, hit to about 4 feet and made birdie. 2nd ever birdie, and that turned out to be the difference as our team took 1st place, and I got low net as well.

Shot a 104 at a course Ive never been to, houses all around caused me to overcompensate in my head so I never felt right with my driver. Short irons again were great, left me many shortish putts I missed, but I got 1 bird and 2 pars in back to back holes.

Not going for that birdie is par for the course

I do the same thing, if I can avoid a blow up in the first 2, I will be alright. And no matter how well I do on the first 9, I always do better on the second 9. -
Shot a 51/52. No blow up holes, and that's what my goal for yesterday was. Drives are still slicing when I try to hit it hard, but I got into a relaxed smooth swing pattern. Still cant putt for anything, leaving everything between 6 in and 2 feet short, but that will come with practice.
