  1. When I found mine, I simply used the search term "golf club" and that worked well too.
  2. You definitely don't have to spend that much to get a matching set of irons. I just bought everything in my signature except the bag in almost new condition off craigslist for $225. You just need to shop around.
  3. I think it was a good start for me. In the end, I'll probably upgrade the woods to something newer and add another wedge. Right now, my priority is to get a putter so I can at least play a round.
  4. Monday, I picked up a nice Maxfli walking bag from Golf Galaxy for $40 on clearance. Very happy with it.
  5. I'd pick up a matched set of irons at least from 4 - pw. There seem to be a lot of holes in that set as it is, but I bet it's a light bag so easy to carry.
  6. I'm trying to find the angle of my pitching wedge so I can determine if there is a need for a gap wedge in my set. Does anyone know what the loft angle is for a King Cobra II Oversize PW?
  7. We are in a recession so it seems like the used golf club market is better than ever. Check ebay and craigslist as well as your local shop's used rack for great deals. I just picked up everything in my signature except the bag for $225 off craigslist.
  8. I just got some new (to me) clubs since I'm just getting back into golf. I have a Driver, 3 Wood, 5 Wood, 3 - PW & SW right now. I will be buying a putter soon. That will have me at 13 clubs. I know the standard rules allow 14 clubs so I was curious what most people use as their 14th club. Chipper? Lob Wedge? Gap Wedge? 2 Iron? 7 Wood? Rescue Wood? What is the most popular and why?
  9. I decided recently to get back into golf after a lay off of 9 years. I did not want to invest a lot of money to get started so I searched for used clubs. I ended up finding all the clubs listed in my signature below on craigslist. I got everything but the bag for $225. The clubs are in excellent condition. They are an older model, but apparently sat in the box in a supply closet until last year when the seller got his dad to give them to him. He played with them for one year and then upgraded this year to newer clubs. They all (except the SW) have regular flex graphite shafts and the original Cobra grips that look perfect. He threw in the Nike SW which has a steel shaft for free. I picked up the Maxfli walking bag on clearance for $40 and a FootJoy glove for $10. Now, I just need shoes, putter, balls and tees and I think I'm ready. 1. Did I get a good deal on the clubs? 2. What are some putters I should look at before buying? 3. What golf shoes are durable, comfortable and affordable? Thanks for the great forum.
  10. Personally, I'd search ebay and craigslist to see if you can find a matching 7 & 9 iron to your current clubs, get a real driver and spend the rest of the money on lessons.
  11. I guess I can see both sides of this, but I will be buying a new putter in about a month and while I'm not ready to say it won't be a Ping, I'll say that if it comes down to two I like equally and one is a Ping, I'll probably buy the other. That, or find the Ping model on the used market.
  12. I guess I don't get it. Every one of us started out as a very bad golfer (and I haven't improved). If that is how we treat the newbies, we won't have any new golfers and the sport won't last. It's just a game. I say calm down and wait your turn. If they want to let you through, that is nice of them but I don't see the point of getting all worked up about it.
  13. I guess I've been lucky but the only time I've even come close was when a group behind me misjudged the distance and a ball bounced past me about 10 yards to my right. It was moving fast enough that it would have hurt if it had hit me, but it would have taken a fluke shot to just the right spot to kill me.
  14. I'd just spend some quality time with your new clubs at a driving range. After you get used to them and are hitting them consistently, take notes on the distance you hit each club. Any new set of clubs would cause this problem.
