  1. For the Dallas folks out here, I just wanted to see if you guys have had any exp with courses out there that were at least decent to play after a weekends worth of rain, such as we've had recently. I remember when I used to live in Houston, you could get out to some courses reliably after a mighty rain...but it would also be 102 degrees with no cloud cover and humid like a sauna...but at least the ground was okay to play from since it'd be baking. Houston, rainy and 60 degrees one day, 102 and sunny the next. How I miss it. lol. Anyhow, thanks in advance, as I have been suffering withdrawal symptoms from not playing all weekend and part of last week due to the lousy weather. I just want to get out there and play as soon as possible!
  2. I got my 10$ off purchase of 50$ or more coupon for PGA Tour Superstore and intended to invest in golf balls, a glove or two, and maybe a generic head cover for my equally generic/clone branded 3 hybrid. Anyways, I wanted to mess around with the putters (huge putting area at this store) and noticed a lone club sitting by the driving nets. It was a Cleveland Launcher hybrid w/stiff gold shaft. I never tried any Cleveland stuff before so I gave it a few good wacks. Boy did it feel good, so good, I kept hitting shots. Long story short, I did end up getting a few boxes of balls, a glove, and a new head cover just like I wanted...except the head cover says Cleveland on it and there is a brand new club under it. I tried it out at the grass range 30 mins ago, and it was fun, fun, fun and easy to hit. Even on mishits the ball still had lots of get up and go. Still have a smile on my face from the range session. *Sigh* this darn hobby of ours, it makes extra money jump outta my pocket all the time.
  3. I think what was already said makes a lot of sense, just have fun. And, I dunno bout you guys, but when I am playing a string of lousy rounds, it seems something always breaks and I end up playing a string of good ones. Besides, even in the lousiest of rounds, there must of been one shot that you pured 2 inches from the cup, or a driver that turned behind the very tallest leaf on a tree and cut a nasty dog leg into a wedge shot, or that one chip that bounced and broke just right...well you get my idea. Gotta be one thing you can smile about! I'd spend time thinking bout that.
  4. +1 for Wilson Staff Used to have ws wedges, loved em. I'm sure the irons are awesome. Shame everyone thinks its the junk you get at target. Curious about the woods though, I noticed good ole Paddy had an R9 which I found interesting as I thought the 'smooth driver' on their website looks cool.
  5. sorry got to work :( PM next tiem you go, Ive never played that course and wanna check it out.
  6. I hope the marshalls got this guy...yikes. Zipping around, skipping holes, throwing stuff...not exactly proper.
  7. Man, that's the word, efficient! I've seen guys/girls spray the ball every which way but straight, but they don't hold anyone up, the find their ball and hit the next shot and move on. When I played with my gf, I think she didn't have the patience to save bad shots, so she'd just kick the ball into the fairway...so she'd play extra fast actually, and really really fast when she'd get fed up and stop playing all together and give me dirty looks. (jk sort of) You should be very thankful your significant other wants to take the time to learn the game. That is way cool.
  8. Well no, I didn't mean anything by it at all, and yes, if he were a Caucasian guy that is what I would have referred to him as. I wrote the post as a sarcastic open letter. And in that fashion, the letter states I didn't know what this dudes name was, so I described his appearance so he'd know I was talking specifically to him. I guess I could've said the guy with black hair, round face and olive skin, but that doesn't quite sound right does it?
  9. I didn't tell you guys the other part of the story, I said just that, I said 'we are playing fast' he said 'me too' and gave me a defensive look... i was just like WOW! What a jerk. One of the guys that I was playing with was like 'hey man, just let him go on.' I'm happy he was smart enough to calm me down...I had heavy objects in my hands affixed to sticks... I'll go out tomorrow AM, and hope for a smoother round. Golf...so many things that have nothing to do with hitting that stupid ball.
  10. Honestly, I was...especially when I saw him marking his ball on the green and lining up the 'alignement aid' each and everytime. I wanted to rip my face off. But thats golf I guess.
  11. Lee Carvallo, from Lee Carvallo's putting challenge, as demonstrated by Bart Simpson. LOL.
  12. Dear Mr. Golfer, I know you may not remember me, but I was the guy who played behind you today. I was so compelled to write you a letter, since it appears you wish to qualify for the PGA Tour sometime soon and I wish to mark my place in history as it is marked within yours. I found it genius that you insisted on playing 2 balls from the back tees. And, I just found it so wildly innovative that you purposely hooked and/or sliced your drives into the woods or adjacent fairway 140-170 yards out. Clearly you were doing this on purpose, so as to learn how to execute rescue shots from twigs, leaves, snakes, etc under extreme stress. Something you will no doubt need to do whilst on tour! I also was so amazed that you decided to take 4-5, sometimes 7 practice swings before striking the ball. I think it is quite amazing that someone so talented such as yourself has decided to only take a shot when it 'feels just right.' This is something I need to learn as well. Most of all though, I wanted to thank you for your focus. Thanks so much for not letting me, nor the two guys who joined me because they got backed up through. You just showed that you were so focused, you wouldn't let anyone ruin your round, which is one of many stepping stones towards your place on the tour. It hurt my feelings at first when I asked (nicely I thought) at the water fountain if we could play through and you replied: 'but there is just me, and there are 3 of you.' I now see what you were trying to do, you didn't want us to ruin your focus, you had such an incredible rhythm going that you couldn't let anything break that up! In fact you must of been practicing to ruin our focus instead, a great counter tactic that will surely come into play for you when up against the likes of Tiger Woods. I respect that, and in an odd way, thanks for that too, it worked pretty decently. And even though our threesome was striking the ball pretty well, moving fast and scoring, its pretty clear that we just didn't understand the level of golf you were playing. Clearly we are mere amateurs, and you are on 'tour pace.' So with that I hope maybe I get your attention. I never caught your name, but you were a younger(ish) Korean guy wearing what appeared to be black capris (can you say new tour fashion?). I hope that because of this letter, marking this moment in history as yours is marked as well, you can perhaps send me and those two guys tickets to Augusta. Once again thank you. Your newest fan now, but a future fan forever. Regards, Mr. Three Dolphins.
  13. Thought I'd give the update, just got back from playing course two@Sherrill. It was pretty fun. I shot an okay score. Just like y'all warned, it did take me and my playing buddy 5 hours to finish...lots of slow play in front of us. I accidentally airmailed on an uphill dogleg left (very left) par 5. I hit over some trees to cut it off...and didn't think I had so much juice on the ball. I felt pretty bad about that as they were a sweet older couple. I apologized, but they just laughed and said they were both safe. So anyways, thanks for the tips and info guys. I think I'd like to try course 1 next time. Maybe I'll bring a cigar or something so as to anticipate the waiting and so forth. Oh yeah on another note, if anyone in Dallas needs a playing bud, hit me up. I usually have nothin' to do but golf these days.
  14. knowing me...i probably will
  15. yup at 22, id play ultimate frisbee until the sun come down, get somethign to eat, sleep, and do it again the next day. Now I complain about walking 1400 yards or whatever it is. Oh well, gotta love golf!
  16. Its times like these, I realize I'm not as young as I used to be (age 28 now). I walked 18 early this AM (trying to get my excercise in), and although I pushed what feels like 75% of my drives into the woods or rough, I managed to save lots of pars, have a smile on my face after a few hard fought bogeys, and even sunk a bird on a long par 3. I ate my hot dog and had my 2 bud lights afterwards and said, 'heck if I just could pure some drives and not have to punch out so much, I bet I'll shoot the best round of my life!' Well silly me, I decided to walk again since I wanted more excercise (need to get air outta the spare tire). Next thing I know my left toe is developing a blister, my knees are sore, and every club in my bag feels like it weighs forty pounds. The temp also went up a good 10-15 degrees and cloud cover vanished. I sprayed the ball all over the place, topped some balls too...no power either, as it was hard to keep my legs quite with all the pain I felt. Terrible round. Oh well, lesson learned, my bad. I am not as sturdy as I used to be...I hurt my game more than I helped it. The bright point of it all though re: first 18...I think those shots I was forced to run along the ground and below trees (adversity in general I guess) brought out the best in me and forced me to focus on good wedge play. I'll take that. Too bad the 2nd 18 was an excercise in spraying the ball far deeper into the woods so that rescue shots were not to be had so easily. Anyways, just wanted to share with ya'll, since you guys feel like my collective playing buddies in some sense. Now...where is a bucket of ice for me to soak my feet?
  17. had a box pressed CAO Mx2 (believe it stands for maduro double wrapped) with some Vietnamese coffee today, good combo :)
  18. congrats, many many more to come i bet
  19. what kind are they? PM with any info, maybe I'll buy em...can't beat pennies on the dollar. I live local to you.
  20. I've heard Chase Oaks is pretty good too. Thanks for the suggestion, maybe I'll try that one next. You'd think i wouldve been able to play every public course in DFW by now...but it looks like we're just blessed over here to have more golf than to know what to do with!
  21. Thanks for the replies so far folks...hope the staff isn't too unfriendly, ha hah, if so I'd rather give my money to someone else, so we'll see. I decided to get a pal to join me and we blocked out a tee time for next week. So I won't get to walk (my fav way to play), but I guess it'll be nice to be able to chuck a few beers in the cart. I'll let you guys know how it is. For early AM 'zipping' around, i guess ill stick with LB Houston on Mondays. Since they just aearated greens, there is REALLY no one there. Haha. Thx again!
  22. I noticed this course (2 actually) while hunting for various munis in the area, all the reviews online are good. I just wanted to check if any forum folks have first hand accts. Looks pretty challenging (course 2), but not too terribly challenging that I should stay away. Thanks in advance! I am thinking about trying to get there at 630-7AM so I can zip through on foot! Hopefully that is possible at this course and there arent lines of folks waiting to do the same at dawn.
  23. thanks...now i want a danish with hot tee and lemon.
  24. never saw that movie lol. Im sure bagger vance wouldnt be so happy that I shot a 7 on the next hole after my two birds LOL!
