  1. Why is this easier to hit? It has about the same loft.
  2. After 22 years of not being able to hit a crisp, straight 3 iron, I've decided to take it out of the bag. It's a blow to my ego, but then again so was that 96 I shot today. Right now, I play: Driver (2007 TaylorMade Burner) 3-Wood (old Callaway Hawkeye) 3-SW (Callaway X-14s) Callaway low bounce sand wedge 60* lob wedge I bought the Callaway wedge because the X-14 sand wedge just seemed to have such a massive flange that I would blade the ball out of the bunker in anything but very soft, fluffy sand. However, because the low bounce wedge was a stock shaft (not + 1", 2* upright like all my other irons), I couldn't use it as the next shortest club after my pitching wedge. So, I have two 56* sand wedges, one used only in bunkers and for chipping and the other used usually for a full swing. I just bought a new Titleist Vokey Chrome 56* 8* bounce. It will replace the Callaway. Since I order the new club to my specs, there is a chance that I could retire the X-14 SW, but I won't know until I play with it for a while. But I'm ready to get rid of the 3 iron. I hit my 4 iron about 190. So I need a replacement. I haven't had a 5 wood in 20 years. And I've never owned or even swung a hybrid. What would you recommend to a) replace the 3 iron with no other changes and b) assume I can take the X-14 SW out of my bag, what two clubs would you add?
  3. Whoops, got yesterday's score wrong. It was actually 92, 45/47. Today: 96, 45/51 at Waverly Oaks in Plymouth MA, gold tees, 71.3 126 6682. Didn't strike the ball as well as yesterday. Was much better concentration-wise. Only one or two total brain melts.
  4. 94, 46/48 at Stow Acres, South Course, blue tees 71.7 128 6520 I was striking the ball well enough to shoot 87 or 88. 2 or 3 chili dips, 4 or 5 skulls. I feel like these were correctable lapses in concentration. We'll see. Got a 7:48 am tee time at Waverly Oaks tomorrow.
  5. Mark Calcavecchia looks older than Tom Watson.
  6. 97 51/46 Kind of staggering right now. Here is a list of my scores this season: April (Myrtle Beach trip): 102, 102 June: 96, 98, 88, 95 July: 95, 52(9), 48(9), 56(9), 97 (today's round) Keep feeling I'm just a tiny adjustment away from consistent high 80s/low 90s. Famous last words...
  7. That does help. Thank you!
  8. Bump. Come on, folks. I need to spend some money! If you go here and select Wedge, Titleist, Vokey Spin Milled Tour Chrome 09, it will take you to the next page where you are faced with the choice of 24 different shafts. I know I want a stiff, steel shaft, but I just don't know whether I want a low-launch, mid-launch, or high-launch. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  9. I've always had to special order my irons because of my height (6'5") and have always gotten the same shaft (TT Dynamic Gold S300 +1"). I recently went to custom order a Titleist Vokey wedge from Golfsmith and the shaft choices included different launch angles. There's no obvious "regular" choice; there is a selection of low-, mid-, and high-launch for the shaft. I've done a little reading on the subject but have on only come across advice such as "if you hit the ball too high, get a low-launch shaft." I hit the ball high, but I'm fine with it as in the Northeast there isn't much wind. So, any suggestions on how to navigate these choices? Thanks!
  10. I'm in the market for some new irons as well. I've been playing Callaway X-14s for about 10 years (and have loved them) and was thinking about the X-22s.
  11. I'm a management consultant, in the learning and organizational development areas.
  12. 18 is more than 14. So it's Jack. If Tiger wins four or more, then we can have a debate, like Tiger's relatively weak competition and Jack beating the likes of Palmer, Player, Trevino, and Watson (combined 29 major championships). But right now, it's Jack.
  13. I don't belong to a club, but seem to play more rounds at Stow Acres than any other course. The North Course is my favorite.
