are there any rules preventing a women from being on a Ryder Cup team?
-
...dude...relax and go play golf or hit the driving range....if you can't make fun of Canada... whats left?

Currently I do not play with any frequency. A few best ball tourneys and a round or two when I can. I have two kids in H.S and both are athletes and musicians so I have no life. Back in the day I played 3-4 times a week and got it down to a strong 10. Perfect for winning Member-Guests and other club tourneys. I still play a 70's set of Staff Irons and old small headed Taylor Made driver an older Caloway 3wood and old Titlest Bulls Eye putter. I hope to get back into a regular game soon. Your fourm is great and thanks for letting me post on such a great site. Bob P.S - also the articles and reviews on the front page are OUTSTANDING!!

...he should post pics so we can decide for ourselves about how much of a distraction she might be...

Sergio seems to keep getting that foot stuck in his mouth. I mean just when you think you can start liking the guy after he makes the Michelobe commercials he pops off at the PGA about how "Tiger gets all the breaks" or at Bethpage Black when he was.."whaaaaaa...Tiger gets to start when its's not raining"...or when he takes his 15th waggel on a short wedge shot...well....you get my drift.... Good Luck Sergio....you'll need at least nine other euros to beat one Tiger.... was it Ben Hogan that said....."the luckier I am, the better I get"?

Canada has an Open?......just kidding.....

my first thought would be he doesn't care about the Vardon Trophy enough to find additional tourneys in order to qualify. He seems like he just wants to get through the Ryder Cup and then go hide until the Masters, just my opinion. I would think Tiger will continue to be extremely selective about where and when he plays.

wood I live in the D.C metro area...do I know you from say an area golf shop and radio talk show?

...uhhhh...I could see "the same old shirt on Sunday" argument...or maybe....heh...."same old 15 and 25 foot puts to stave off any challange"....or...well you get the point

Anecdotal...I met Peter Jacobsen once at the local mall. I was buying shoes and he was standing over me while I was tying up a pair of shoes. Not seeing him or looking up I said to my wife "what do you think?"…she had gone around the corner to look in another store….so Jacobsen chimes in…”their definitely you…buy em” at which point I look up to find Peter smiling at me. I was stunned at first but we struck up a conversation and had a few laughs over the next hour. The next day I head out to the Kemper to watch my new best friend. Anyway, I caught up to him on the 3rd or 4th hole and said something to him regarding the shoe encounter the night before. Mind you this was not a brief “hey your Peter Jacobsen” encounter. Basically he ignored me and went straight about his game. I took it stride and sulked away having lost my new best friend’s acknowledgement. Coincidentally the following months Golf Magazine had an article by Peter Jacobsen about how tour pros concentration is such that virtually everything around them is tuned out with the exception of the shot at hand. My point being that maybe one reason Tiger is perceived as aloof, is just that. His ability to concentrate on the task at hand may seem off putting, but it’s his zone and no one else is in it. Also, Tiger seemed quite congenial with Chris Riley during the third round of the PGA. Vijay and Phil seem and have a rep as butt heads on the course, not Tiger.

When is the investment in new technology worth it? I mean I'm the guy who believes it's the swing not the equipment. I still play a set of registerd Staff Blades that includes a 1 Iron. I still play a relatively low tech small headed Taylor Made driver and a Bulls Eye putter. I've hit the different high tech clubs and drivers but don't see that much more consistancy or distance to invest $1,500 clams in. BTW, since Titelest quit making the DT, I have seen a problem with ball selection with regards to the old blades. Anyway, any other Old Skewl diehards out there? P.S - when I could play on a regular basis I had it down to strong 10 hcp

as many as he wants.

you're pretty observant cdriver!!!

you bring up some interesting points. I find myself not interested in tourneys that Tiger is not in. I mean it's like the winner has won a minor leauge game if Tiger is not in the field. With regards to Tigers absolute power over the PGA, somehow I see it as more of a partnership. Tiger does not seem the sort to be corrupted absolutely.

Tiger is like watching Houdini, Jordan, Nolan Ryan, and Jack incarnated into one. How many times can he sink a 15 footer for birdie when his charging opponet has a two foot birdie. How many times can he hit a six iron from a fairway bunker 212 yds to a green surrounded by water. I don't know, but how can you not want to find out.

...while being felicitous, that’s kinda my point with regards to Phil…he’s no Jack Nicklaus not even close. So to me it’s a Tiger Guy and someone who merits status with him….i.e Jack Nicklaus

I'm just not comfortable with this thread.....some phobia I'm sure....

I don't want to imply that Jack had a higher rating in any tourney.... .my point to Jacque is that Jack had tremendous cache in his day. Again...regardless of TV ratings which Tiger has sent to the moon....Jacks 1986 Masters is what I and I'm sure many that watched it or were there, is the most memorable major ever. Jack, while no Tiger when it comes to modern day TV, was idolized by millions world wide. Golden Bear, Inc. is and was no slouch today and back in the day. Tiger, like everything he has accomplished, just makes everyone and everything that we new about golf obsolete or pale in retrospect. Between them, we are lucky to have wittnessed two of the greatest ever. ...heh...which begs the question...why is Phil even in this discussion? Before Phil even gets into say a "Tom Weiskoph" comparison (Weiskoph being highly regarded as a player that never realy was able to win big or beat Jack and had the personality of a frustrated old man) he needs to win when Tiger is at his best, not when he's on vacation. So are you a Jack or Tiger Guy?
-
ragantona the point goes back to this... ...and yes I understand that Jack does not and never did have the cache that Tiger has. However....for two days in April of 1986 he had the worlds attention like no other....period.
-
heh...hell boofy I was only six (cough cough) when the 86 Masters was played. Seriously....no crowd reaction has been equaled to date....ask CBS ...also...no other golf club has been more imortalized than the MacGregor putter that Jack used to win the 86 Masters. MacGregor would probably be out of business now if it hadn't been for that.
-
iacas...I'm pretty sure that Jim Nantz and anyone that was there will tell you taht the 1986 Masters was like no other major. When Jack first came out on tour in the 60's he was not beloved due to "Arnies Army". By the mid to late 70's Jack was the taking the spotlight like no other. He had transformed his early pudgy young punk image into a charismatic champion. Make no mistake, while Tiger has fully engaged the world golfing stage, Jack was the Tiger of his day. By the time the 1986 Masters came he was a living legend. Wining a major at 46 only imortalized him. I don't know how old you are, but anyone over the age of 40 can tell you that the 1986 Master may never be equaled in terms of sheer drama and jubilation of Jacks victory. I'd rank it #1 in terms of a Major that will never be forgotten. signed Old enough to know

NC Golfer wrote: ...point taken...but in alternate shot I would be more inclined to want a Fred Funk type for a partner. Tigers game is such a different game than anyone else that I don't think it's compatible with anyone else. Therefore a tough partner for anyone paired with him.

there is NO WAY anyone wants to paired with Tiger in alternate shot formats. While Tiger can pull off the get out of jail shots on his wayward drives, I'm pretty sure few others can. Maybe the 5wood will produce a more compatable partner this time around.
