  1. I guess my thought came from one of the comments that said (basically) that the violation came from the stance readjusting by possibly more than half a footprint...however, someone did mention the actual ruling and a better explanation. Still, I would have to say it concerns me that there is a lot of potential variation as to the reason someone might be backfrom the ball during a practice swing. Did someone say he took practice swings in the bunker, away from his ball, or was he just inches off? Caveman
  2. Sorry for my ignorance but, is all this to say that a player who has landed in a bunker is not able, as he is in a fairway, to change his mind regarding the decision to hit a ball. I kinda get the "feeling out the territory" concept, but it almost seems that if in your practice swing above the ball, you get something in your eye, you'd just have to hit it, or something like that, because if you move, you could be in violation. To me it's silly. Anywhere else on the course you can change your mind, get a different club, re-address and hit it. I don't know...Maybe pick it up, throw it out on the grass and hope noone saw ...especially SI and ESPN. Caveman
  3. Well...I've made it to the Phoenix area. Anyone near here interested in a round? Let me know...The weather here is getting really good! Caveman
  4. Wow...Plays great like Tiger, and looks like him too!! Anyone seen the two of them in the same place at the same time? Seems a little Michael/Janet to me! Caveman
  5. Jesus, Saint Peter and an old man go golfing. The first hole is a 380 yard Par 4 dogleg left. Peter goes first. He hits a nice Driver over the trees on the left center of the fairway about 50 yards from the pin. Jesus says, "Nice shot Pete but watch this!!" Jesus hits his driver starting dead center of the fairway with a strong draw landing just in front of the green and rolling on just 12 feet from the hole. Peter says, "Man Jesus...That was a great shot. Unbelieveable control." The old man is next. He hits a worm-burner toward the right side of the fairway and into a tree bouncing up in the air knocking a bird off its perch on a tree limb and careems into small lake on the right side of the fairway. Suddenly a catfish splashes in the water, knocking the old mans golf ball back onto dry land. A squirrel seeing what looks like food scrambles for the ball pushing it with his nose, then realizing it wasn't food swat is with his tail pushing the ball down an embankment toward the fairway. An eagle flying by thinks it is an egg, picks it up and begins to fly, then drops it. It falls to within 4 inches of the hole. Suddenly a gust of wind blows the ball into the cup for a hole in one. Jesus shakes his head and says, "Nice shot Dad."
  6. Britney Spears??? You haven't seen a recent picture have you!! Jessica Alba, Anna Kornicova, Jennifer Aniston, and even Carmen Electra get my nod. Guy even Ashley Simpson gets it over Britney anymore!! Caveman
  7. Yes I mean a day or two early. But that's why I added that it's not always practical.
  8. Again, I stand corrected. I will even admit to getting a read from another golfers shot, at least the best read I can get...but I am convinced that whenever I have ...second guessed...my shot, I completely miss and normally I end up wishing I had stayed with my first thought. However, in practice rounds where I "take an extra shot" my first thought hasn't always been better anyway. Oh well.. so goes the sags of the extremely amateur "caveman" golfer. Regardless, I stand on my thought that I am better off not trying to get any information on my opponents club selection. caveman
  9. I stand corrected. my index has never truly been figured. I will soon be putting in all my figures when I get to Arizona. However, I am surprised that an almost scratch golfer would need that form of additional information. Maybe I'm still too "green" but I thought that knowing your abilities and your equipment would be the best help. Dave
  10. Thanks a bunch. Just thought i'd point out that it would be great if there's anyone in the Phoenix area...help a guy out! Let me know about your home course and maybe even get together for a round. No wierdness!!! Just a new guy to an area with 130 courses within 50 miles. Caveman
  11. Playing in tourneys is definately a different situation. My thought is to get there early and play a practice round. This isn't always practical, but sometimes even some practice swings on the range and the chipping green as well as a good read on the putting surface. Caveman
  12. I agree you can learn from what you see, but I said it doesn't help them to know what club I used. Maybe if you knew I was using a PW that might give a hint at my distance for that club...wait...NO WAY...I hit a great knockdown shot from the back of my stance, and sometimes I can even try to keep my hands firm and have my hands at impact in front of the ball by 6 or 8 inches. Other times I can open the face, correct the grip and get a good high pop and drop for those "thick grass, over the bunker, close to the edge pin placement shots. You see...my point is that there are too many variables to the golf swing, and my knowing what someone else is hitting won't help me a bit unless I fully understand exactly what they did on their shot, and maybe even what they thought they might accomplish with that shot. Now if I have confused you enough, then I have proven my point. Caveman
  13. I don't know. I think you sound like one of those stuffy golfers who only buy the top dollar stuff...not for its ability or quality, or even its game improvement allegations...but simply for the logo. Truth is, if you know golf, it doesn't really help anyone to tell them what club you use. I'm a 7 from 150, but since I ain't PRO I can't guarantee a 10 foot circle around the pin. Also I understand that the guys I'm playing with are all over the place anyway, who cares about the "tips". When was trhe last time you told someone about what made you a better golfer, and on the next shot, they sank it...then foolowed up the round with straight birdies and then took you for a beer If you're a scratch golfer then disregard...but come on...it's a game. Have fun, keep on working to get better, and maybe someday you and Tiger will hit side by side inside of 2 feet from 224 with your PW. Caveman
  14. Which club? I assume the driver. Still trying to "kill it" Maybe try slowing to about 80% for awhile, and trying to feel what it is. A lot of times when I do that I find my swing path is completely off and then I try to compensate for the bad slice and turn my hand over too fast, or stay behind the ball too long and get the rediculous pull or wicked hook. How can all this happen from one swing to the next. Are you compensating for either with your grip? That adds to the yuck. Caveman
  15. The club that always seems to help me is my PW. I always seem to find different ways to use it (open face, closed face, back of stance, front, etc.) No other club for me has been as much help inside of 120. Outside of 120...it's a crapshoot Caveman
