After thinking about it for a few days, I have decided to "fit myself" not sure if this is recommended however I am going to have fun with it. I am planning on getting 4 sleeves of different balls, and playing 4 rounds. the one I play best with, wins. I am a skeptic of the simulators in general. There is a thread on here currently about how they "mess with the simulator distances". If this is the case, then who knows how accurate fitting from a simulator is. Luckily the cost of a sleeve of 3 balls isn't prohibitive and it'll be enjoyable. Once I have done it, I'll update everyone here on what I tried, how they performed, and which I picked.

Does anybody have good drills for teaching someone to make an inside out swing path?
-
I wish they'd sell it in a mixed dozen, or in an individual sleeve. I think i'd like to try them, but not sure that I want to drop $45 on a box, get to the course and find out that they drive me nutz, or I can't see them in the rough, or at approach i hate how the setup looks! i'd get a sleeve though.

Did Golf Galaxy charge anything for their fitting? If so what?

Does anybody know if you can "map your own course" on the range and it could give you distances to the markers on the range. I try to find places where I can hit off of grass, they tend to move the tees a lot, for obvious reasons... if i can map my own course I think i can make it so that it'll measure to the markers. I have a sky caddie as well, but don't know how to do it... anybody know the answer to that?

my question looks silly now I think someone was advertising their product on this thread and it was removed. here is the link, I don't know anything about it just was looking for more information... http://foresightsports.com/ I am not advocating it or anything, but I was trying to find out more info as I am going to be setting something up in my house soon, and I am trying to collect Info. Anyway I was looking for the cost, but the person who posted the original "advertisement" was removed as they obviously violated the rules of the forums... BTW, glad we don't have advertisers here.

Currently I am thawing out and the idea of 90 degree golf is no problem! Thanks For the info.

Smails, If you don't mind me asking, what is the general cost of the trip for one person for just the golf? I am jealous to say the least... It's been cold here, but winter seems to be leaving, can't happen soon enough if you ask me!

Skycaddie SGX with Smartclub technology

Does anybody have a link to the trade in/ trade up program with Sky caddy? -
Yeah, I am interested in the cost, and can you take it to a range, and then take it home and get the stats of your range session?

I am looking to get a camcorder for swing analysis, and other stuff. I know that in one of the reviews on TST, it was recommended that you get one with 60 frames per second, but i think that's if it's a digital camera. If it's an HD video camcorder, I think 30 frames per second progressively scanned should be fine. Has anybody used the Flip ultra? it's only $149, or $199 depending on the memory included. Any other suggestions would be welcome!

Does anybody have a good way to demo a club or set for a round our two to get the feel on the range and course? I really hate dropping 300-400 on a new club (driver) or way more on a set of irons after just hitting them in a simulator... Is there a demo program out there? Here in Denver I know of Golf Galaxy, and Golfsmith, neither will let you "check out a set" or a club for a weekend... When I lived in Omaha, i could check clubs at a local shop, that was the best... any ideas or suggestions?

Golf GPS units? Suggestions?

I know that Sky Caddie takes a beating because of their subscription price, but to me it was worth it. I have the SG3, and many people were complaining about it as well, never had trouble with it though. I also have a mac, so maybe that keeps the device in line ! Anyway Lots to chose from, but remember that you want it to do one thing... give yardages. I know that Sky Caddie walks the courses, thus i trusted their numbers and made the purchase worth it to me... Now i just need to figure out how to "map my course" so i can get distances while i am on the range, if there is one that does "range distances" let me know! -
I didn't get the memo - "To Game"
calvie7 replied to Randy4h's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I too have been confused by this, i have been playing golf for 15 years, and the only term i know is "gamer" or someone who it pretty good! -
New to Golf, want to get started
calvie7 replied to Golf Novice's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Congrats, and welcome. The first thing to do is evaluate how much time you want to devote to the game. It can be all consuming if you want to let it. That's how I am and sometimes i struggle not to think about it or visualize shots in my mind. Just something to be aware of. After you know how much time you have to devote to it, set some goals. Simple ones like, play a round without losing a ball, or play a round with less than 3 penalty strokes... They will happen, enjoy it above all else. Your first step before you go to a pro is to understand how the club is to be used, how the ball flies, and why it works that way. The golf club is a 2 levered object, something most don't understand, and are never taught. This is perhaps one of the greatest informative articles ever written, it was here on the Sand Trap a few weeks ago. http://thesandtrap.com/playing_tips/ball_flight_laws Read that and understand it, ask questions here or to a pro to make sure you do. Also before you take a lesson read Ben Hogans book "5 lessons". You'll understand much more by doing these things before your lesson, then when you are with the pro on a range you'll get a hell of a lot more for your money. Clubs, firstly let me say that used clubs are the only way to go, here in Denver we have Golf smith, where you can buy a full set of used irons off the rack, they are usually 50% less than new, and then you can get good brand names. Go to the store they are always ready to help make a sale, spend hours there testing... it can be like a free lesson if you let them help you. Explain your situation, people who love the game are always willing to give tips... something that as you go gets annoying, but it is because we love it so much. Anyway, always remember its a game, and enjoy it! -
Congrats, I got my set of AP-2's from Golfsmith almost right after they had come out... they were returned by someone who wasn't ready for this type of club, a beginner i think. Got them for 550 for the set with PX 5.5 shafts in them... Not a scuff on any of the faces! I was as excited as you are now! Enjoy the dome!

That is the reason for our trip... We too have it on a list in the next 2 years.

Nike Forged Blades vs TW Blades Vs Taylormade R9 TP

I am sure you can see by my signature that the AP2 were what won here... I like going the Demo rout as well... -

Quite honestly there are so many options out there, to limit yourself to only Blades seems like you are limiting the greatest trip to a golf store that any golfer gets... Going to get new irons, what a great day. I'd go spend the whole day there, and hit Mizzuno's, Nike's, TM, Titleist, all of it! Take a couple of trips if you feel it's too much! Be sure you try the Mizzu, MP58, and the AP 2's... If a club or set helps you with your score, and helps you enjoy the game more, then does it matter if they are blades or Game improvement irons? Just my .02, but when I got my AP2, I think that all the salespersons at my golf store knew my name, I was in there for 3 strait weekends.... They knew I was serious, supported me in any way, and by the time the 3rd day was up, they were tired of me and got me a great deal, included free fitting, and alterations on the set i decided on... Whatever you decide, enjoy it! -
I like the idea in general. It should work because we all carry a handicap, and using the slope of the course would level it nicely. That being said we should try to find courses with similar slopes... say 130ish? Perhaps Erik could use the tournament to advertise his scorecard product... something that I use and love! If we just say, everyone play "X-course" on Sunday in this region, it would mean that everyone could participate without having to travel. It would be on your honor, but this is a game of honesty really. I know that not everyone tells the truth about their score, but I think the honor system is just fine in a tournament where there aren't any prizes... I also like the idea of mixing it up, and saying that you play X course on Sunday, and Y-course on Sunday. Create a 36 hole tourney of sorts. Lets just say that you need to have established a certified handicap to participate.
-
Erik, would there be any way to post an informational thread of the proposed "STOP" tournament on the front page with a call out for regional chairs? Any city/state... We would probably gain more traction with support from the site. It could also be a good way to get new members as we'd tell people we golf with to sign up for the "the sand trap" and they you can participate in the open.

Thanks for the great suggestions.

Sun Mountain "Four 5"
calvie7 replied to Danny Noonan's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
It also says that it has a strap to prevent the legs from engaging, mine didn't and others complain about putting it on a cart, does anybody have the said strap? if so does it work? -
I know the desire to get the dent out, but I wouldn't trust my driver to an auto body guy... no offense to anybody but if you are bent on getting it fixed, i'd send it into the mfg. Personally i would live with it as a reminder to focus. But that's just me.

I would say that Oregon has to be somewhere near the top, Washington too... There are really nice people who play golf everywhere, but those two states especially... Also if you ever get the chance to play ski resort golf in Colorado, take it. Breckenridge, Vail, Steamboat... I know it's not year round but that makes it almost more special... I know there is Arizona, Florida and on and on, but I know a guy who moved to Colorado from Mississippi, and he said the greens here are amazing compared to what you get in the south because of the heat... Just a thought... Plus 300+ drives are more common in the thin air!
