  1. Congrats! I would be super stoked as well! I just got my clubs back yesterday from a fitting and can't wait to try em. They were just lengthened 1/2" or so, but I'm amazed at how mch of a difference that made to my posture(not slumped over anymore).
  2. Bullitt: Funny you say that. Because my Nicklaus driver was actually about 3/4" longer than the driver side-by-side. The Burner felt much easier to swing. In a way the lightness almost made the club feel "cheaper". To me it felt like the shaft AND the clubhead were both lighter than my Nicklaus. JGulk: I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to ball speed. In hindsight, I'd have to say that would probably be a pretty important number. Also, they didn't give me a lot of details on transfer, but basically summed it up with how well I was connecting or transfering energy to the ball. They said over 140% was very good. Whether that is an equation to ball/clubhead speed I don't know, but i think Bobz could be right, that it is. So if I swing the club at 100mph and connect with a transfer of 150%, that would equate to a 150mph ball-speed. Does that sound about right? Sorry I'm lacking more details, still very new to the game, and gathering knowlege daily.
  3. Hey guys, Just hit my driver on a launch monitor for the first time ever. Just wondering if any of you more experienced fellows could take a gander and make any recomendations for me. The driver I hit first was my nicklaus driver in my sig. I'm comfortable with it, and seem to do just fine with it(lately). Results: Swing Speed: 96-99ish average. Peaked at 99.7 Carry: 240-260. Total distance: 270-280. Rpm: 3500ish(they said this was high). Transfer was 145-150(they said this was really good). Launch Angle: 9.5-10.5 Then I hit a new Burner 10* I think. Stiff shaft. Swing speed: Consistent 98-100. Peaked at 102. Carry 245-265. Total distance: 275-285(292 peak) Rpm: Same if not slightly lower 3300ish. Transfer: High 140's Peaked at 152. Launch Angle: was a pretty consistent 13ish. I went in there originally thinking my ball flight might be too high, and thought a new shaft could help keep it down a bit and improve total distance. They seemed to think my launch angle was on the low side. I really liked the Burner. Felt much much lighter, which I guess would explain my higher sweed speed with the burner. Just wondering if any you pro's had any suggestions for me? They had an R9 they were going to let me try but I had already hit a lot of balls and my speed was starting to trail off a bit, so I thought I might save that for another day. Does the Burner sound like a good fit? Any downsides to what feels like a much lighter club? Any info/tips would be great.
  4. This man is a genius!! After watching the video clinics of Moe in this thread I went to the range to try it out. First 10 balls or so felt bizarre. Suddenly something clicked and it was magic! I have NEVER hit a ball so pure in my life! I thought I knew what a pure connection felt like, but I had no idea until now. You never even feel the ball on the face! I've never had more fun golfing than I did tonight! Ball after ball after ball was straight and LOOOONG... 9-10 shots were DEAD straight, compared to 3-10 before, and I mean DEAD straight. Not a single slice or hook. At worst my poorest shots had a slide fade... Better yet, I have absolutely no pain in my back between my spine and right shoulder blade like I would normally get after hitting even 20 balls; and I blasted through 2 jumbo buckets tonight!! Also, as far as distance goes I'm normally happy to roll past the 150' tall trees at the back of the range(220ish from where I was standing).. Tonight I was hitting the trunks half-way up! Genius. Incredible. Insane. I've just found my swing. Wherever you are Moe, thank you!
  5. That's the perfect attitude, IMO. It enables you to play well, and not have a lot of pressure riding on you. I played a scramble just recently. Played horrendously with my irons. Team did not use a single iron shot of mine, including any of my wedge shots(which are normally stellar as well). Was just having difficulties with new irons, and it affected my whole game. But.. I did spank out a couple really solid drives that the team used because of accuracy over distance(our big hitter won the long drive), and my putting was on fire! So regardless of how frustrated I was overall with my game, those few really good shots enabled me to go home with my head held high.
  6. Well I decided to go in and get fitted for my new Nike CCI's.. I got them a few weeks back and I've hit them absolutely horrendously.. Fat, then thin, then fat again. They are slightly longer than my Alien's which I've hit well all season, which I thought would help(I'm 6'3"), but for some reason 9-10 shots with these new clubs is just garbage. I've played 2 rounds on them, no range time at all(very bad I know) and had stupid bad results. I was so frustrated I almost Tin-Cup'd them on those rounds, and really felt like playing out the rest of the rounds with a woods and a putter(still been hitting them well) Anyways, one thing I really disliked about the grips was the feel. Very hard, and too small for my larger hands. The fitter agreed and I decided to go with midsize Winn Xi7 grips that will be built up a bit larger with a few wraps of tape. He noticed right off my middle and ring fingers on my right hand were digging into my palm. Also, the fitter will be adding 1/2" of length to them. I did hit off the lie board, and every shot hit the same spot, closer to the heel than the center on the sole - no matter where the ball hit the blade. Also, every shot I made, save one, impacted the club face closer to the heel. I only had 2 ball marks on the tape. 1 in the center, and 6 at the exact same spot(only left one dark mark) towards the heel. Atleast, I'm consistent I guess.. The plan is now to get the work done next week - grips(had to order them) and adding length. Then I'll hit the lie-board again to see if any angle adjustments need to be made. Overall I'm heading in the right direction, I think. The grips felt really good, very tacky, and I think the added length is just what I need to help my posture/setup over the ball. Are there any other fitment issues I should be looking at when making these adjustments, or does it sound like I'm in good hands? I'm new to the game, and very competive, so I've become a golf addict straight away and I'm really looking to get the best out of my game.
  7. So true, and thanks for bringing that up! Seem that no matter how bad we play we always make that one shot that makes the round for us. I'm glad I stuck it out tonight, had I not, I wouldn't have sunk that 65 foot putt and I'd reeaaally be down on myself right now!
  8. Drink!! I just played the worst round of my life... Drove horribly, and hit 1 honest fairway(the other caught a lucky bounce). Hit it thin, hit it fat.. When I did make a good swing I had great results, but they were few and fair between.. Missed a birdie put, 3 par putts, and didn't make a single par for the round! On the upside I did put a few right at the pin(gimmies), and on the 17th I sunk a 65 footer to make a bogey.. Honestly, about the 12th I almost gave it up, had I not been playing with a friend I would have thrown in the towel... Playing a scramble tomorrow, and now I almost don't feel like even going..
  9. I have no problem using(read:losing) practice balls! Like others have said they are the same ball, just stamped "practice". Even if they weren't the same I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Think I just made a great deal as well. Bought a shag bag loaded with 50 used prov1's. After going through them all I was able to pull 12 to play with, that I honestly could not find anything wrong with! The bag with the 50 balls was under 35 bucks. Not a bad deal!
  10. Tried em. Liked em. ::thumbup::
  11. I have a 3 and 4 hybrid in my bag. I had just sworn them off, because I just can't hit the darn things.. Then, I played a round last friday and hit them great.. I'm thinking now that I might give them another chance. I agree with the other posters as well, the feel and weight of them is very different.
  12. Too hard. I need to slow down and smooth out my tempo. I'm very jerky on the transition which is not only bad for my shots but painful to my right side ribs. I've found if I make a more conscious effort to pause at the top and initiate a turn in my body, I end up further and straighter. People have said my swing looks much better when I do this, but in my mind it feels like I'm hanging the club up there for 20 minites before I start my downswing..
  13. Idk.. This is america.. I carry a firearm most everywhere I go. I have a CPL, but for some reason it's only valid in a short list of other states. Imo, it should function like a driver's license. You prove competency, are issued a permit, and the you're good in all fifty. I mean, how silly would it be for my WA drivers license to invalid in NY, because the officials there somehow feel the roads are much more difficult to drive? A bit of a tangent I suppose. Bit if I recall, Plax did have a CPL from another state.
  14. Thanks guys, I'm really curious to see how the graphited irons play! I'm a little worried about the regular shafts in the woods, but I do know that I need to slow it down a bit because my accuracy suffers trying to kill the ball like I do. Irons are never a problem, but for some reason whenever I'm looking down at the ball with a wood in my hand I get the "hulk smash gud!" mentality, and it's costing me strokes. However, I played a round today and smashed my very first 300+ yd drive! 388 yd par 4, dropped it right in the fairway and ended up around 75yds out. Got excited(bad pitch-bad chip- and a 2 putt!), and blew it up to a bogey.. Ahh the frustration!! Gotta love golf!
  15. Had to pul the trigger on this one.. Been looking at upgrading for a while now, and these looked too good to pass up. Still very much a novice, been playing about 4 months now. But I have a natural swing, and hit my irons very well. I'm inconsistent at times with the driver but my short game makes up for it, and my putting I've been told is "amazing". Anywho, check em out! New irons! Not sure if I'll use the woods.. I'll give am em a try, and if I don"t care for em I'll flip em back on ebay..
