  1. Well darnit, I wish I would have found this place sooner. I thought about joining a fantasy golf league this year, but I don't know enough people to get one going. It sounds like the fantasy league here is pretty fun! Maybe next year! And maybe after round 1, everyone can discuss their thoughts, etc.. on the tourney. I'll know next week. And I did see the previews on the main site. They were all very solid.
  2. Well, Arnie's tournament is this weekend, and I wanted to get everyone's opinion on the event. This is when golf season starts IMO, as the Player's Championship is next weekend and the Masters in a few weeks. I love this time of year for sure. Anyway, who are some of the guys you all look for to play well this weekend at Bay Hill? I know Chad Campbell ended up running away with it last year, and he has been playing well the last couple weeks. I look for him to be near the top this weekend, and the top guys will probably be near the top as well. My pick to win this weekend is Ernie Els. There are certain holes where a long hitter is definitely at the advantage this week, as there are tight pin placements that require long iron approaches. Some of the big hitters are the only ones with that high long iron shot in their bag. So I look for the big hitters to dominate, and I'm picking Ernie. I'm not sure if this board does a little preview of the events or not, but I would definitely enjoy discussing the events and making some predictions and stuff. I'm not sure if anyone would like that or not.
  3. Hey, my golf swing is definitely a lot smoother than my name. That is for sure. Too bad my short game isn't quite so smooth..
  4. I'm not a big alcohol guy personally, but I did have some wild days in college. When I drink now, I just prefer to take a few shots of Goldslager and be done with it. My favorite thing to drink is a good cold class of sweet tea. In Oklahoma, that is as good as wine my friends. I am seriously addicted to sweet tea, but that's ok. When I did drink a lot in college, I liked to drink Parrot Bay and Pepsi.
  5. I think the shorter season is for the birds. I agree with the guy above that the young guys need all the rounds they can get, especially near the end of the season. I don't think it would make any difference honestly. Tiger is still only going to play in certain events, as well as many of the other top guys on tour. I think the schedule is fine the way it is. I would like to see the big names coming out a little more though, as that is always good for the game. Tiger should be playing in 25 tourneys instead of 15, but when you make as much as he does, I guess it really don't matter much how many times you play.
  6. Well, if you list Ernie, you should also list Retief Goosen. His swing is also very smooth to say the least. I love watching both of those guys swing the golf club. Fred Couples looks effortless as well, and it hasn't gotten any worse over the years. I also think Tiger's swing along with Adam Scott's swing are both perfect almost. They aren't near as smooth, but they have perfect rhythym. And one of my favorites to watch is Zach Johnson just for the fact that he swings 3/4 just like I do. His backswing is so short and compact, and that is alot how I swing the club as well.
  7. I have always worn tennis shoes as well just like muda above me stated. I just feel more comfortable for the most part. But lately, I have noticed my feet slipping slightly while hitting an iron shot. So I am about to break down and go buy some golf shoes. I'm glad I came here because I will have something to go by now. My best friend has the all black footjoys and he loves them. I'm much more of a white and brown golf shoe kind of guy myself. TaylorMadeFan, how much do those that you showed a picture of cost? Those are pretty sweet in my opinion. I need to buy some of those.
  8. Well, I watch the pros a little, but in basketball, it all comes down to college for me. College Basketball may be my favorite sport in life to watch, and during this time of year, it is great! It is even better when my Oklahoma State Cowboys are having a great year, and this year is no exception. I look for them to return to the Final Four again this year, although it won't be as easy this time around. I was wondering how many other people here get into March Madness like I do. I get into all the office pools and stuff, as I love picking the games and stuff. I will be sticking with Oklahoma State for the most part, and I also think North Carolina has as good a chance as any to cut down the nets in early April. What does everyone else think?
  9. Well, I will try not to get into the Yankees situation much. My mom loves them, and it has driven me crazy for years now. I just know that spending all of that money seems to only get them in the playoffs here lately. The low income Angels and Marlins have both taken titles in the past couple years, which is refreshing for me to see anyway. But onto the topic, I am ready for baseball season this year. I thought all the steroid talk would hurt baseball, but I think it has somehow helped baseball overall. It has definitely brought in attention, and that never hurts in this day in age. As for my teams, I am a big Giants, Cubs, and Mariners fan. Those are my main 3 teams, but I am not a die hard fan of any of them. I pull for them when they play, but most of all, I just love October baseball. It is just a great time of year for the sport. I think the Marlins will do very well this year if their rotation holds up, and I think the Red Sox and Yanks will once again battle it out for the AL, although the Angels will be tough as well. One thing I would like to mention though is how weird it will be not seeing Sammy Sosa in a Cubs uniform. I have watched him play for them ever since 1993 or whatever year it was. Crazy stuff.
  10. I would definitely be interested in something like this if time constraints all work out right for me. Is there some place I can look to see exactly what things I would be doing? That way I can get a better grasp on whether or not I could help out. I really think this site looks very professional, and I would like to do some writing or something in that nature. Just email me or I can email you, either way. Thanks, Cody Thrasher
  11. I'll be honest, Tiger has been so great for the game of golf. But I just don't pull for him honestly. And I am not a big Vijay or Phil fan either. I do cheer for Ernie and Retief, but not quite as hard as some of those other guys. I have been on the Charles Howell fan club since he was a senior at Oklahoma State, and I am waiting for him to break out any week now. I hope I don't have to keep waiting. And I am very inconsistent in my golf playing these days. I have decided that I am really going to try and play 3 or 4 times a week this year to see how good I can really be when I am consistent. But we will see I guess! It's good to see that there is a place to talk golf with people who actually know what's going on.. Thanks for the welcome!

    Padraig!!!

Well, I'll be honest, I am an American through and through and don't necessarily pull for the guys from Europe! Yeah, I still have a little bitterness from the last couple Ryder Cups, but that's ok, that is what makes it so darn good. With that being said, I am very glad that Padraig won an event in the US. He definitely loves playing over here, and he has the ability to not only win tourneys like the Honda Classic, but he has the ability to win the majors as well! I think he is going to be very dangerous in the majors now that the pressure of winning in the US is over. I think Colin would have won a major or two if he would have somehow gotten a win in a smaller US tournament first. Anyway, congrats to Padraig, I look for him to continue to do well on into the Player's Championship and Masters.
  13. This is the kind of discussion I want to get involved in for sure. This is a very nice topic for me to start off with. I disagree with the first two opinions. I voted for the Ryder Cup having the most pressure. Sure, being in the lead in a major has a whole load of pressure, but here is why I think the Ryder Cup pressure is even more overwhelming. When a guy is leading a major, he is the one who can lose the tourney for himself. He has to rely on himself and only himself to get the job done and finish the job. When a guy is leading in a Ryder Cup match or his duo is leading in a Ryder Cup match, the pressure is on not only him but his partner too. There is no great pressure than peer pressure IMO. I know I would be much more nervous playing in a Ryder Cup than a major. Because if I did bad in a major, I would have to live with myself only. If I choked in a Ryder Cup, there would be MANY MORE people mad at me. Now that is pressure for sure. But that is definitely not saying each don't have its own tough pressure because they both do for sure. I just think the Ryder Cup pressure is the extreme as far as golf goes.
  14. Well, I have been looking for a place to chat about the PGA Tour, and I think I have found my new golf home. This place looks very sharp for sure, and I hope to meet some good people here and talk some golf. My name is Cody, and I am from Oklahoma, USA. I am about a 12 handicap, although I never really do the full out handicap system. I just love to play for fun and usually shoot around 80-85. My favorite golfer is the Oklahoma State guy Charles Howell III, and I enjoy watching Justin Leonard, Lee Janzen, etc.. Anyway, I just wanted to say hey to everyone! See you all around.
