  1. Have you tried any ART (active release therapy)? I am having it done on my shoulder to try and relieve a repetitive strain injury. I have gone for 4 treatments so far and it is starting to ease the pain and give me more range of motion. You can get it done at either a Chiro. or a good Sports therapist. It is essentially a really deep tissue massage that works at stripping out the scar tissue build up. You can read more about it here www.activerelease.ca
  2. I clearly lifted my head on a shot and one of my playing partners tells me that I am playing 'Eskimo golf'. After asking him what 'Eskimo golf' is? He reply is... Yeah, Eskimo Golf...you 'tookalook'. 'Whackf#@k' is a good one. After you hear the whack of the golf ball and it isn't a good shot it is usually followed up with the sound of ' F#@k '
  3. With 5cm (2") of snow on the ground overnight here in Calgary, carpet putting is about all I have right now. I started playing around with different ball position and trying to forward press. With all the Lego lying around from the kids it is easy to find different targets to hit to. The main thing is it keeps a club in my hand.
  4. Cheers, I will book some tee times this weekend.
  5. Thanks for the feedback. We are in a 'stay and play' deal at Gold Canyon but that doesn't mean we are limited to golfing their courses. If the conditions are not up to snuff then we will consider other options. I spoke to one of the gentleman in the pro shop and he was adamant that the course would be very playable and that we would never see an Arizona course 'more green and lush'. Mind you, he is also trying to fill up his booking sheet and get paid customers through the course if conditions are less than ideal. tjy355 - How available are tee times around mid November? Have the snowbirds started flocking down or will we be able to just phone a couple of courses in the morning and get a tee time? Cheers
  6. What trophy is that and what is if for?
  7. It's great to find a place where you feel at home. I have been teeing it up at a small course just outside the city. Nothing fancy, no glitz, no frills but I can walk in on a given night and the pro shop manager knows me by name, the owner of the little deli will say hello and ask if I want my usual. There is something to be said about the atmosphere of a place and how it makes you feel. Keep going back to that range, it will give you more back than an improved swing.
  8. I will be heading down to the Gold Canyon Resort in Phoenix on November 11 for 4 days of golf and 4 days of celebrating my 40th birthday. I was wonder what to expect after a course goes through the overseeding process? I have read that the greens will be longer and a little shaggy and the fairways wet. There has been a large range of opinions on how the course conditions will be. Some people are saying to stay away from an overseeded course for at least 3 weeks others say that it will be good to go once they open. Dinosaur Mtn. being the later of the two will have its overseeding done from Oct 15th to Nov. 1st. we won't be playing it until the 13th so I am hoping that we will find the course in good condition. I am looking for some experienced feedback from players who have golfed a course right after the overseed process. Cheers
  9. Up north here in Alberta we are going from in the 90's last week to near freezing this weekend. Our 5 - 6 month golf season really gets depressing sometimes. I will head down to Phoenix in November to try and keep the summer alive then hopefully try to get a round or two in sometime in the new year if we head somewhere tropical. For those of you who have the luxury of year round golf...Cheers to you, I am envious.
  10. I turn trees into kitchens with a little help from computers and a great staff.
  11. I remember when I was only about 12 or 13 years old and the pro at one of our local city courses came up to my friend and I and spent about 10 min. with us teaching us how to fix the pitch marks in the green. When he was finished the short lesson, he handed each of us a repair tool. We were extremely thankful and very excited that the pro had taken the time to educate us and it was really cool that we got something for free. From that day on, I always fix at least two on a green. Take the time to pass on the etiquette of the game or it will become lost.
  12. Bogey golf on 9 holes tonight. It was too bad my putting was a little cold tonight or I could have shaved another 3 shots off. After a dismal round on the weekend, it felt great to get a bit of a groove back tonight. There were no surprises tonight other than the Deer and her two fawn crossing the fairway on the 14th.
