Evolution of High Launch and Low Spin
motsco replied to mvmac's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
what is AoA and Moi really do? sorry if this may be off topic but I have to ask. last year I used a xhot 10.5. it got the ball in the air for me very well, but I hit it towards the heel a lot. this year I went to my pro because the xhot was just to high in flight and there was no roll, so we worked on my swing and shafts. even with a better swing heel shots would creep back into my game. we worked on numbers at this point, and changed shafts by the time we got to a shaft that got my numbers decent and a lot more center of face, I noticed there was a i25 sitting in his shop, so I asked him I I could take it for a spin. at this point we turned on the machine and looked at the numbers. my xhot still not very center hits was spinning in the 3000 range and up. when I hit the i25 I almost fell over from the feel. center top hit spin rate 2500 ish. I was able to to stay in the 2000 range and hit more center to toe with the i25. I wish I remember my other numbers but all I rember is spin and distance. what in these 2 clubs would make me hit one better then the other? -
I don't understand aero in the driver world, I believe aero works with cars, jets, but look what's under the hood of the most aero shaped machines. I don't in no way believe if any person with a 90 to 100 mph swing speed is going to gain anything from those shark fins. plus I challenge any golfer to try the i25. and actually use the racing stripes to line up your shot :) very very easy.
-
I'm no golf pro and I didn't stay at a holiday inn. come on man! the fins are going to do what? down force? please! if my right elbow gets stuck behind me even with a 170 mph or 90mph swing speed the face will still open. I just don't understand this g20 with fins. I think ping was realy onto something with the i25 and racing stripes. looks like we my have to deal with TM crossing over into the good club makers. can't imagine what the i30 is going to look like? maybe we will need clearance from a airport to swing it! come on ping!

actually my accuracy improved except for my pw (ping W). it goes left but was doing that when it was a 1/2 longer. I won't take the pipe cutter to them again. I'm am just amazed that 1/2 inch makes such a difference almost to the point where the shaft dosnt feel so wobbly on the down swing. trickyputt if I do make another cut I'm holding u to working the saw :). Tom

I cut 1/2 inch off all my irons. they feel much better to swing, at the range tonight I could catch the sweet spot better. even getting a better sound off the face even when hit near the toe. ball distance is a lot better. can now hit my 5 iron darn good. I really can not believe what a difference a 1/2 inch makes. I will give it a week for the newness to ware off and report back. only thing that bugs me now is I cut my 6 down 3/4 not a 1/2 and I still have good gaping almost makes me want to take another 1/4 off all the other clubs :). thanks Tom
-
thanks I cut a 1/2 inch off my wedge and seven iron before playing today. those two clubs worked great for me today, I'm going to trim 1/2 inch off all my irons and see what happens. I can't believe that taking that little off makes the club feel that much lighter. Tom.

sorry I told the fitter to add a inch to the set. he didn't look very happy when I requested the extra inch, got the set last year, been hitting off the heel a lot change swing to get more toward the toe/center. I thought I would gain distance going longer but I think I'm loosing distance. Tom
-
if I get fitted for ping irons and I ask for a extra inch added does ping adjust the clubs for flex, lie, and loft? or do they just put a longer club shaft in the head I'm fitted for? thanks Tom
-
would the swing weight have been adjusted by ping? being that this was a custom fitting also I would think ping would adjust to the correct loft and lie when making the shaft longer? or am I just assuming? I hit the clubs pretty good when I have a good swing. I think I may just go after a new stock shafted set, I really liked the lighter feel swing weight compared to mine. learn from this rookie mistake. I was trying to be tricky by adding a inch to gain distance but I really think I messed up doing this. the shorter lighter club felt almost like I could hit it further. I wish now I had more the 3 hits with it. thanks for your input all T

short story long - I was fitted over a year ago for ping g20 irons (red dot) when the fitting was done I order the irons a inch longer then stock. why? I thought it would make for more distance. also ordered the yellow grips (fatter). well the last couple of weeks I developed a case of open club face through out my swing which me and my teacher got figured out today. during today's lesson try to nail down the open face problem. I asked if the fat grip would make it hard for me to controll the club face so he bolted together a g20 7. with stock length shaft and grip, well. when I took my first swing it felt 2lbs lighter, it was actually reliving to swing that club. I asked my teacher why it was so light feeling he told me because I ordered my clubs with a 1 inch longer shaft. the weight of my clubs were not the problem of the open face because I can hit them just fine now and get the face shut, but in my mind I'm not liking how heavy the feel now. and leaves me questioning over all controll. what do you guys think should I play out the season with the irons I have now? (can be done) should I have a inch taken off of them? (worried loft and lie will change) or should redo the fitting and buy new g20's? or g25? thoughts?

hello - why isn't there more tour edge fitters? I live in md and I noticed over the last couple of Years that tour edge is dropping of the map. I have owned a few tour edge products: bazooka 10.5 driver = ok. no real pop off the face but got me streight, I replaced this club with a r11 for distance, then replaced the r11 with a xhot 10.5 driver which got the ball up higher for me but less distance. my xhot vs bazooka driver, xhot a few more yards and more pop of the face. bazooka 3 w. not bad but I used this club in my 2nd year of playing and never gave it a chance, I replaced the bazooka with a higher lofted callaway diablo 3 w that worked wonders for me same second year of golfing, i now game a 4 wood xhot that is real nice. bazooka 7 w. this club is my f- ing hammer, this club is my go to it has never left my bag. when I hit it wrong, bad, good, great, I can tell you excactley where the face and the ball met. with this club I can tell what I did with my swing, I can feel if if the face is open closed, forced shut or pushed open. now that i am getting my score down from the high mid 90's into the high mid 80's using my swing I am starting to wish I had more chances to try more clubs like my 7 w, I'm in my 4th year, I'm shooting in the 80's, I got my irons pretty good with ping g20s,. but I'm feeling like I could improve more if I could get all my clubs working like my 7w. any suggestions? is it the shaft? face? what do I need to do to find clubs that match my 7w? Tom

Anyone carry a 4 wood in the bag?

callaway xhot 4w here, dropped my 3 and 5. use 4 and 7 for fairways. really help my game. -
I have 20 putters. I can tell you the ones I buaght for the looks are only good looking putters. I love blade putters but never have found one I play well. I have a center shafted see more putter and loved the look but don't game it well. the 2 putters I play the best are the ones I tested before buying them, yes only 2 out of 20putters that I play well, and when I started seeing how these 2 putters helped me I was really put down because I didn't like the look of them at all. but going from 40 something puts to 30 something puts per round I would say that looks aren't everything. if you care to know what the putters are the ping nome and the taylormade ghost ,mallet putters with bent shafts.

I Hit the RBZ and R11 and a few other black faced clubs, The RBZ an R11 Are the only 2 clubs (with Black Face) that had feel and sound compared to my Burner 09 Driver, I purchased the RBZ and I love it, New Look compared to my Burner 09, Ball goes off the face and it has a few adjustment to have fun with.

Tour edge has great clubs - I game a 7w GeoMax and a 9w Jr max they are my go to clubs they allways seem to work great for me. I just picked up a T.E. West Chicago Putter and its great has a crisp tink to it when putting. You should go try some Tour Edge stuff I bet you will like them.
