  1. I have a similar problem, except my distances are a bit shorter than yours. I have been thinking about trying a shorter shafted driver with 12.5 degrees of loft.
  2. I just don't understand people who like to knock on the s and t swing method. I am new at golf. Just started this summer. I could not get a consistent swing down no matter what I did. I tried reading any golf related literature that I could get my hands on. Some things helped a little, some not at all. When I tried swinging using the s and t method though, I had immediate positive results. I can now hit an eight iron 145 yards. My driver used to slice terribly, now I can consistently hit 225 or better. Looking back, I think the instilling the weight forward thought made the biggest difference. On a side note, I now struggle with fat shots. Is this a common miss with s and t'ers? And how can I fix it?
  3. I used to put the ball in the middle of my stance and swing like I would a 5 or 6 iron. This never seemed to work well for me. Now I play it off the left heel and swing like I do with a fairway wood. I get much better results this way.
  4. I was wondering about the elevation changes on the same course. The reason I asked was because I have a open field close to home to practice in, and I hit from a higher elevation. When I play on a course my clubs all seemed a bit shorter. I was wondering if it was the elevation, or maybe I was doing something different during real play.
  5. How much does elevation affect distance? I am wondering if there is a some kind of general rule to use. For example--For every xx feet of elevation change use one club more or less.
  6. Wow!! That's great. Just yesterday I shot a 49,49. That was the first time I broke 100, so I kinda know how your feeling. If I can just get my iron play down, I think I can do much better. I am happy with the distance I am getting when I connect solid, but my miss hit is really FAT. This causes the ball to travel less than 100 yards no matter what club I am using. It really stinks when I am more than 150 away because the follow up shot is no guarantee to get on the green either.
  7. I am new to golf and I struggled with slicing for quite awhile. I still do some, but nothing like before. I found that I was rotating my forearms on the backswing, and I never quite closed them again on the downswing. I read somewhere on here that when the club reaches parallel on the backswing, the club face angle should match your spine angle. At this point in my old swing, my club face angle was pointing almost straight up. This tip has helped me very much. My drives became straighter, and of course with the straightness came added distance. I even hit a draw (not trying) now and then.
  8. How about the effect swing speed could have? If we have agreed that ball compression has the tendency to carry the ball slightly along the SP, then swing speed should make a difference. Slower swing speed equals less compression, which would mean the CFA is even more dominant when swinging slower, especially when pitching and chipping.
  9. I practice way more. I have a fairly large back yard. I can get 50 to 60 yard shots in it, but I still lose some a few into the trees. My neighbor also has a big field next to my place. I can hit there whenever I want. The field is big enough to hit driver shots in. Between the backyard and the field, I probably practice 3 to 4 times a week. I only get to play about once every two weeks or so.
  10. My best shot recently was a drive on a short par 4. It was playing 288 yards. It has a narrow, tree lined lane for the first 150 yards or so. Then it opens up, mostly to the right. There is a creek at the bottom and the green is hidden behind trees around to the right. It is down hill to the creek and then uphill from there. Anyway I ripped a huge (for me) drive straight down the lane. I did not get much roll because the tee box was so much higher and I was hitting into the upslope in front of me, but it still got out to about 270. I hit my wedge within 10 feet. Missed the birdie putt. It would have been my first birdie too.
  11. I am a plumber. I work on residential and small commercial projects. Any other plumbers here?
