Skycaddie or phone GPS
lcfd42 replied to ElWagonne's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I'd stick with the skycaddie until the battery issues are ressolved. Although I played this past weekend with a guy whos yardage was 10+ yds off to my SG5, be careful of that as well. -
There again I agree as I play used balls as well, but how many out there do spend the big $$ so we can play their lost balls? Theres nothing wrong with giving up a little pliability/softness in a grip for wear. That's all about and individual golfers give/take regarding thta particular item. Everything about sports equipment is give/take, we just have to strike a balance we can live with as end users. I've been paying $5 per club for the winns installed. At the current rate, I will be spending $35 or so on grips for a year of play with them (after initial investment). To me grips are like tires on a racecar, they have to feel good and "grip". As long as they do that, what brand or kind doesn't matter (some guys like those rock hard ones, go figure?). It's about the satisfaction in a good comfortable swing and the end result that matters.

I agree that they wear out quickly Shanks, but after the initial regripping; you will only be regripping individual clubs on an as needed basis. Most likely then it will be your shorter irons and wedges. Not all of them will wear out at the same time. For someone who plays a couple of rounds per week they work just fine. I've been playing them for about 5mo. and have only regripped my PW. My SW and LW will need them soon, but the comfort of the grips is worth it. In the big picture of what we spend on golf and equipment, $50-100 a yr for grips is not a drop in the bucket. Hell a dozen premium balls is $40-50.

I've invited him to join me since we live close together. I don't mind the clanking drivers since I'm almost deaf anyway. Too many years of shooting guns, racing cars and raising hell.

I played those all weather gloves this season. They felt great except they screwed up my grip when I went back to 1 glove. I worked its self out after a round or so, but you may want to consider this before you go the two glove route.

Regrip.....regrip......regrip!

Bimmer I sent him a PM suggesting a TM r7. They have about the best sound and are good drivers as well as being close to his price range (around $150).

'Golf' Epoxy vs Regular Epoxy
lcfd42 replied to johnnyyooper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
LBlack14, I could only assume what he was talking about. I am by no means a club maker or anything close. I am though a gunsmith and machinist by trade. I have used many of that same epoxies, powder coatings, and other products in my line of work that are used in the club making industry as well. Ther is another thing he may be doing as well, removing the hosel plug and increasing the diameter of the opening there slightly making the lower end of the shaft with epoxy larger than the opening in the hosel itself (similar to an inverted cone) creating a wedge effect making it much more difficult fo a shaft to pull out. But we can only assume this since he does not elaborate any further. -
'Golf' Epoxy vs Regular Epoxy

I think what he is talking about doing is taking some more material out of the hosel. Not in diameter but in depth, so as to add additional surface area between the shaft and clubhead for adhesive bonding. -
I had a similar issue, and changed to Winn Xi7s. I never looked back. They are firm enough to have good feel, yet are very soft. The only negative to them is the wear a little quicker; you may have to change your most used clubs once a season with them.

These are the reasons I am looking at a mid bounce club and a low bounce one. So I wil have a club to play out of deeper rough or fluffy sand yet still have a club playable on firmer grounds. I see you play both your CG12 and Mizuno in 10*. I 'm looking for optimum playabilty in a broad range of course condtions. Also, if it matters, most of the courses I play have heavy Bermuda rough. In the green grass season, it's usually cut 2 + balls deep.

I'm not counting the PW, as it is a given in most sets. I'm just talking about like a SW/LW combination or something. I just don't see the purpose, in my game anyway, for a GW/SW/LW combination. I already play this combination (GW/SW/LW) and it seens I'm wasting a slot I could br using for something else. I am wanting as SW/ and LW or something similar. I just need an idea of a loft and bounce suggestion. I figure the SW should have the bounce for bunker play and out of the rough, but am undecided on the other club or the bounce angles I should use. As I staed in teh origional pose, most of the courses her are of very firm ground. So that is the pursose behing my question. Maybe i should have asked this a different way. If you added a mid loft wedge (about 52*) and a high loft wedge(about 60*) club under the stated conditions. What loft and bounce angles may be suggested and why. Thanks again.

Then I haven't any problems using mine. They will be worn out in a few years use anyway.
-
I just pick up a "Very Nice" set of Mp-32s. I will play them conforming or not. I have until 2020 or 2024, whenever amatures are ultimately required to change.
-
The irons I purchased for the set are 3-PW. They were used so I may be adding hybrids fo the 3 and 4, but we'll see. I just want to get the short sticks filled first.

I browsed around and coudn't find my exact answer, so. My question here is what would be the best set-up for a 2 wedge bag and why (no asking for brands, just loft and bounce). I am a 10HI and play a fairly good short game. As a matter of fact, it is one of the best parts of my game. I'm putting together a second bag and going 2-wedge. I play 3 in my current bag, but the Gap wedge (very) rarely leaves the bag. I seem to always play the S or L wedge around the green to 50yds. Considering: 54* - 10 58* or 60* with a 4* - 6* bounce Most of the courses I play have a very firm base under the turf (firm soil/clay) Thanks to all who reply.

I can't say as I ever changed my balls. I do wash em' a regularly though.

Sure, I got 2 sets. I though everyone got a set in last years stimulus package? Oops! Just Kidding, I've never heard of them. For that price, it should tee the ball itself, carry your bag, or something.

'Golf' Epoxy vs Regular Epoxy
lcfd42 replied to johnnyyooper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Lblack, if it's the same stuff we use in the machine shop, it will probably require drilling out. It is a moderately strong compound, that is not very heat sensitive. You would most likely detemper/ruin any part before softening it enough to breakdown. -
too much weight on your forward foot? or along the lines of Jaybird's comment, merely balance.

'Golf' Epoxy vs Regular Epoxy

Mehhh? Hmmmm........ Intresting.... -
I have played my G10s for quite a while now, and never thought about how much the clubs actually weigh compared to other clubs. (I know GI clubs are always a little heavier, but my goodness!) These things are absolutely slug weight. No wonder they get the ball up and contact well, the things can't help it. It never quite occured to me as to why I could not acheive the yardage I way used to getting from my irons, now I know. This would probably explaing why ping delofts their clubs an extra degree compared to others (for compensation of lost SS). I am by no means trashing the Ping clubs, as they do what they advertise and I enjoy playing them. I am just talking about what they weigh. That would also explain why my bag is so heavy.

True, but you can't hunt em' with good old fashoned lead bullets! Thats a NO NO! it might hurt a buzzard (Kalifornia condor) that eats caron (remains of animals/varmints dispatched by hunters)....Sad, so sad.

Deciding on Hybrid: G10 vs BJ Players Series
lcfd42 replied to wolverine_man's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The reasons you gave are the best two. If you could demo both of them at the same time, yo really could make a difinitive compatison. I gained about 10mph when I finally learned to turn my torso with my shoulders, and reduce lateral movement of my arms above the elbows. Everything just clicked then. I'm 6'4" tall which helps that speed, but have 3 bad disks and I'm 40yrs old; which really sucks. The reason for the range 105-110 (some inconsistency on the swing analyzer) One day the putter will catch up with the rest of my game. -
Deciding on Hybrid: G10 vs BJ Players Series
lcfd42 replied to wolverine_man's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I play the g-10's, and the hybrids are the best clubs in the set. I feel comfortable hitting them from any lie. The bal explodes off the clubface with a sweet "ping", gets up fast, and flies with a good trajectory. The ball checks up well when using them on appraoch; they seem to have better spin than the comparable irons. I played (2) BJ clubs last spring, I enjoyed them but the ping hybrids sold me on the G-10 set. I have since decided I would prefer a different wedge than the G-10 though. The fade/draw difference in the two clubs is most likely the differences in the shafts. BTW - I hit my 21* to the 215-220 range avg. my SS is 105 - 110 and tend to hit a slight draw on my longer clubs. Either of the brands you have chosen will perform for you, I have found the G-10 works well for me.
