Day 38 - Outside today; I hit short wedge shots with my 56* wedge alternating between 5 and 14 yards carry (swing lengths of hands to about 7:30 and 8:30, respectively) 10 shots each.

Day 37 - Nice enough earlier today to get outside, so I spent about 10 minutes doing Adam Young's "3 tee drill" with my driver, followed by hitting some bump and run shots with my 8 iron.

Day 36 - Left hand only putts today, 3-5 feet. Intentionallity was to take 2 practice strokes looking at the line, place the putter behind the ball and go. Didn't always do this, but left hand only putts are beginning to feel much less awkward.

Day 36 - Worked on chipping today, starting with my Orange Whip wedge, followed by short shots with my GW using an AlmostGolf ball. Focusing on making relaxed swings with a good tempo and always engaging the bounce (what mvmac would refer to as a "chitch").

Day 35 - More putting practice today. I'm working on changing my putting stroke to more of an Utley approach and it is taking time to get used to the change. Winter in NE is a good time to work on making this sort of change.

Day 34 - Practiced stroking putts one handed - right first the left. I found the left handed putts much more difficult. Will continue to practice this way from time to time.

Here's mine, compared to a 15, for the last 10 rounds of 2022. I ended the year with an index of 22.8, but compared to a 15 as that is where I want to get to, handicap-wise. Clearly, driving is where I lose most of my strokes, which I believe is caused by the fact that I am a really short hitter (I hit fairways about 58% of the time). The next issue which needs work is my short game. Please feel free to add comments.

Day 33 - Had a little fun today with indoor putting practice by doing Faxon's "6 putts from 6' with 6 different clubs (putter last)" drill. For the first 5 clubs I used Driver, 9-wood, 6i, PW and LW. It took two tries to "sink" all 6 putts in a row (the "hole" was my perfect putt trainer). Apparently, Fax uses this drill frequently with juniors and had Mcilroy do a version of it when they first started working together.

Day 31 - Nice day today so I spent about 20 minutes hitting short (7 to 15 yard) wedge shots in the yard with my 59* wedge. My intention was to make good contact (not easy off winter turf in the yard) and hit a landing area.

In thinking about question 4, I realized that when I putt well, I move into position and go. Unfortunately, the approach of taking practice strokes parallel to the line then moving into position more often takes my attention off my visualization the path which the ball will follow and onto my swing mechanics at which point I freeze. Accordingly, I've determined to make some changes to my pre-putt routine in the offseason to (hopefully) correct this tendency.

Day 30 - Mainly putting practice today. After thinking about my responses in the thread about Bruce Rearick's questions, some reading I've been doing and my typical putting performance from 2022 I decided to work on developing a new pre-putt routine which did not include practice swings to the side of the ball as that approach seems to result in me focusing on mechanics, rather than the line. So I worked on some changes which will keep me moving and visualizing the putt. Also did the Devilball through a gate drill and made a few slow swings with a weighted club.

Day 28 - Did Bruce Rearick's vision test today, which showed that in my current setup, my perception was that the line moved to the right. By moving closer to the call and standing taller, I perceived the line to be straight at the hole. Will continue doing this test.

As you process the requirements of the putt, how do apply the conclusions to your choice of direction? When I'm putting my best, I tent to see the putt as a curve towards the hole. I use my feet to determine the direction of the break, but need to work on calibrating how well I read the amount of slope. How do you create speed with the putter? Varying the length of the stroke while trying to maintain the same tempo. How do you process the distance the ball must travel? I process the distance visually and sometimes putt looking at the hole. How do you transfer what the process to a feel? Usually take a couple of practice swings standing beside the ball while looking at the hole, move into position at the ball and go.

Day 26 - Did a Trackman session today at my local GG. Booked and hour, but probably did more like an hour and a quarter. Driver was a real mixed bag, but needs work...as do other fairway woods. Wedges are off to a pretty good start.

Day 24 - Worked on some short wedge shots in the yard today with my 54* and 59* wedges. Set an alignment rod 5 paces from where I was hitting from to represent the edge of the green and a towel 2-paces from the alignment rod to represent my landing spot. Hit short shots aimed at the landing spot, but in no event shorter than the alignment rod. Will be working on lots of shots of this sort as I had a problem with leaving these shots short in 2022.
