Hey sdgolfer, I was in the same situation as you are in. This is what i did to fix the situation : 1.) Gary Players drill : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnQ6RHepJgk 2.) Address the ball. Now without changing your stance . Look at a spot 4 inches ahead of the ball on your target line and make this your "new" ball position. Do not even look at your real ball anymore....it will distract you. Your swing thought should be, i have to hit the ground at my "new" ball position. 3.) Feel : Don't just swing the club while doing 1.) or 2.). Feel what your body is doing. Here is a hint : It has to get on to the left side to do either 1.) or 2.) properly. Try these and let me know what happens.

Video Analysis has changed my game forever
verderaul replied to LeviTee's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Great link Erik. I have a love hate relationship with video analysis. I love the part that it highlights my problems and helps me improve. But hate it when i see so many issues with my swing :( Last night, i felt i was swinging well but few videos showed some glaring mistakes. Its easy to get bogged down. -
I am working on slowing down my swing and being more consistent. And it seems to be paying off.
-
To hit it straight, you must make dead solid contact. And the only way to do that is to have your divot start just after the ball. That goes against the common, and mistaken, perception that your divot should start before (or in back of) the ball. Complete article here : http://www.golf.com/golf/instruction...035221,00.html I have only been playing 1 year and i never assumed that the divot should start behind the ball. So am i missing something or the author correctly says its a "common" perception ? I personally feel that the author just wrote some BS to make his point stronger. Raulito

Tour players addressing the ball

"It's a great way to keep tension light by not having to pick up the club. " I really like what you just said. -
Is it just me or they hardly let the club touch the ground ?

Please suggest a golf bag
verderaul replied to verderaul's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Forgot to add that the Nike SQ tour has tons of pockets. Its slightly "heavier" than some lite bags. But i didnt even notice it. So dont let that be a showstopper. I can post pics if needed...this bag is reall easy on the eyes. -

Guys, Thanx for the responses. I did some research and i am leaning towards a stand bag with full length dividers. wrx_junki, Both Sun Mountain 3.5 and SLX look good...but i dont see if they have full length dividers. Guys is there are any stand bag with 14 way full length divider ? How many is enough ? I carry 14 clubs. -
Guys, My current golf is falling apart. Keeping it in my car trunk all the time is the main culprit. But there are some issues with it as well. Mainly, when i am playing its hard to pull out/put in clubs. Seems like at the bottom, the club grips cause a lot of friction since a lot of clubs are all together. It is also kinda heavy and i would prefer a lighter bag. Can you suggest a good golf bag that would address these issues ? Thanx in advance Raulito

Am i getting the most outta my driver
verderaul replied to verderaul's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanx for the tip Sucka27. As i had mentioned, i picked a golf club in Oct 2009 for the first time. I shot 85 in my first season....i got here following what's being taught to me by my coach. I have no reason to change that. Therefore, i dont want to clutter my mind with many adivices. I definitely posted my swing for some advice....just not swing advice. And the censensus is that i am overeastimating my swing....i agree with it. One big thing i have realized is that golfers (mostly beginners like me) are obsessed with distances. I need to get out of that mentality. -

Not "any advice", just swing advice ;) Thats the conclusion i have reached.......that i am overestimating my swing. -

You are taking it to heart. If you read my earlier post you could see that I do agree that i dont swing fast enough. I just dont like to clutter my head with swing advice from anyone but my teacher. He has gotten me swinging well in a short amount of time...no reason to change that. -
I am not qualified to give you advice but i really like your swing. It looks easy, balanced, repeatable. I wish to swing like you one day. Raul

How much did lessons help you?
verderaul replied to Tugglife2's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I picked up a golf club for the first time in Oct 2009. I figured within a week that it was "really hard" to learn this game by myself. I took lessons once a week for the next 4 months (there was a 2 month break in between) and practices twice a week. I consider myself very lucky coz i met a teacher who suited my personality. So its key to take lessons with the right person. And unfortunately there is some luck involved in that. My improvement has been dramatic....shot 85 my 10th time on a golf course. I couldnt have even dreamt of this without lessons. Raul -

iammpspeer, I am not looking for swing advice . But thanx anyways. :) halcon, I plan to stick with the same driver till next summer. And then i will go to a launch monitor fitting. I must that say, when i stand over that Titeleist...i get a sense of confidence that i will smash that ball :) westcyderydin, You are right that swinging harder would be a recipe for disaster. Atleast with this swing i am on the fairway most times. I would like to keep it like that. Thanx all for the advice. -
Am i getting the most outta my driver
verderaul replied to verderaul's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Guys, The reason why i posted is that several incidents have left me spooked about my driver distances. 1.) I hit my 3 wood 240 yards with ease and 250 if i have some assistance . I believe the differential between driver and 3 wood should be greater than 20 yards. 2.) I hit my friends Titeliest 909 driver few weeks ago and i measured 290 and 285 yards. But i will take the majority's view. Coz, even i feel that i am swininging slower than i am capable of. -

Eric, I downloaded this excel sheet from the internet which is supposed to calculate the handicap ( http://gearpatrol.com/blog/2008/07/1...lculator-free/ ). And it calculated mine to be 11.1 . Anyways, i dunno how true this excel sheet is. So i never bothered to change my handicap. Maybe it is really 11.1. Even though i am a beginner, I am very well coached ....so i am pretty confident about my swing. So i take your opionion in general is that this swing looks like a 260 yard swing :) -
Guys, I just bought a Nike Dymo driver (didnt want to spend too much since i am a beginner). Somehow i feel i am not getting the right yardage out of my swing. Maybe i am overestimating myself :) Just need some opinions. Here is the swing. The yardage was about 260 yards. (You can judge my swing progression through my other videos as well) So it a case of me overestimating my swing or improper driver selection.

10th time is a charm. Shot 85 today

te3point5, I have no more goals in terms of scoring. But i am working with my coach on shot making. If i can hit different shots on command....scores should drop automatically. -

Thanx man. If i can be of any help....please feel free to ask. -
Guys, I took my first golf lesson in October 2009. Lots of hard work at the driving range has paid off. My goal was break 90 at the end of this season but i managed to pull it off on my 10th visit to a golf course. I am over the moon. Props to my instructor and my work ethics :) Raul
