  1. I keep a lot of stats. Maybe too much for someone just starting out and I tend to emphasize my practice time on what I feel are my weakest points. Like spending several days just hitting my 7i until I got a decent swing with it. This is the part I have trouble with. Besides the obvious like avoiding water, hazards, bunkers, trees, etc., I don't see a "better place" to end up in. Maybe this is because I played with a more experiences 2 handicap player and he talked about how he hit the ball to place it in good spots, which was something very few people do. All I saw was that I ended up in a good place on the fairway and with a good, clean view of the green. Perhaps I am overthinking this too much?
  2. I played a couple of rounds without my driver. I stuck to my plan and used a hybrid to tee off. I think it makes you realize that great distances are not required for most holes. It is interesting and am looking for more ways to see the course in different ways. I have switched my tee box spot. For some reason I always teed up on the same spot for every hole.
  3. Thanks. I have Tiger's "How I play golf" and "Golf Annika's way" they talk a little about course management. I will google a bit more on course management. Thanks.
  4. I was browsing some books online about the mental game and course management (by Ray Floyd). I also stumbled on an ebook called "Game sense" and it describes some things that sound interesting as to playing with a strategy. For instance, I have read about there being a strategy on how to choose the best spot on the tee box, etc. I would like to read more about such topics. So far the only "strategy" I have made for my game is a plan for my home course and my personal par; going from the green to the tee for each hole and which clubs to use to score my personal par. I am tempted to buy either the Ray Floyd books or that ebook. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  5. I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow at the range. Try to focus on getting that feeling and see how it goes. Thanks.
  6. I am having trouble with that. If I grip it "lightly" I feel the club moves. I end up with a club with a closed face from what it rotated or really get no distance at all. If I grip it "tight" I have been slicing it like crazy. I think I have to focus on finding just the right pressure for my grip.
  7. I have just finished reading the book. I like the concepts presented and am starting to apply them. I wanted to try the 54-Shot Challenge suggested almost at the end of the book. I am having a hard time visualizing what it is that I'm supposed to do on #3: "Turn a club around (maybe a 7-iron) and hit five lefty shots if you play from the right, or righty shots if you play from the left." Anybody tried this?
  8. I just got the Rife 400 Mid Mallet and so far I like it. Have only played 3 rounds with it.
  9. Just bought a new putter. I was convinced I wanted a blade putter and tried several. Then I tried the Oddysey XG Rossie and the Rife 400 Mid Mallet and reconsidered. I settled for the Rife. I played with it today and I really really like it so far.
  10. I bought the Bionic Silver pair of gloves, not because of the arthritis but because I was looking to buy gloves for both hands. Anybody know of another brand that sells them by the pair? I saw Footjoy has a pair of wet weather. Not sure if they would work as I play in dry weather (Arizona). I want a pair that is good for the weather conditions I play in but my right hand is really getting a beating with the sun so I'd prefer to wear a glove on my right hand too. Any suggestions? Thanks
  11. I hadn't checked the points. I just logged in to the website and see that I have been awarded 2 certificates, $10 each. I am yet to receive them, although it says that it may take up to 60 days for processing and delivery and in another part it says 15 days for delivery. So who knows when I might get them. I haven't gotten any coupons or benefits from being in the program but I just signed up less than 2 months ago.
  12. That's why I am more interested in finding instruction with a plan, rather than going by myself looking for drills that may help some problem I have or for some problem I don't even have. So far, haven't found another site that does that. Where can I learn more about Evolvr? Thanks.
  13. What material did you use?
  14. I've been practicing mostly chipping and putting but I wish I had a better idea of what I should be doing when I practice (some drills or something like that). Going to a pro for a quick fix about a problem I have (and I know I have a lot of them) doesn't seem like a good investment in money and time at this point. That's what I am concerned about. I know that once you learn a technique it's hard to change it and I want to be cautious not to learn it incorrectly from the get-go.
  15. I went for it. I purchased the Callaway Quad Net. Easy to set up. It is a bit of a struggle to fold it back at first but after a couple of tries I think I got it down. Working well so far but I've been using it for less than a month.
  16. Hi, thanks for the reply. I do have a camera. Not sure what specs would be required for the video. I will set it up and shoot some video to test it. While googling I found the Pure Golf Training site. Anybody tried it? Looks interesting with the practice plan. That's something I am having a hard time finding locally.
  17. Has anybody tried getting any golf instruction online? I am interested in having some sort of a practice plan to learn the game properly and build a good base to improve upon. Going at it alone is not an option and there are no golf coaches around my town that would do that. I can only get private lessons for fixing a particular problem but not really a progressive instruction. I have several books and videos but am looking into some guidance as to how to plan my practice time. Any suggestions are welcome.
  18. I've been thinking about getting a practice net to set up in my backyard. Something that's easy to setup (no poles to set up in the ground) and store away. Was thinking about something along the lines of the Callaway Quad Net and saw the SKLZ Rick N Grip. Has anybody used any of these? Also interested in something like the SKLZ Fly Trap Chipping Net.
  19. I bought 40 recycled Nike Golf Balls for $18 at amazon. They were in great condition. Some had company logo's on them but in great condition. I've been using them for practice rounds.
  20. I just got my hands on this book and Ben Hogan's Power Golf. I have already seen improvement from the first chapter from Five Lesson's. My grip is a lot more consistent now. Plan to work on each item and then continue reading the next one.
  21. Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy and TGW for online purchases
  22. Callaway Diablo Driver and 3w, plus a bunch of small stuff (balls, gloves)
