  1. This was me my first few range sessions and round using S&T; principles. Hands in and make sure the handle in forward in your setup and it will most likely magically work itself out. As soon as I actually started doing that (not just *thinking* I was doing it), I started getting the baby draws (and sometimes hard/over draws if I forgot to also concentrate on my swing path) that were promised in the book.
  2. +1 to both of these. When I purchased the S&T; book from Amazon I also bought Plane Truth based on the recommendation of one of the reviews for the S&T; book. There are some pieces that the S&T; book gloss over (well not really glossed over, they are just not treated as "fundamentals" to the golf swing) that you get a bit more insight into. There are also several good drills in both books that will help you with just about any ball flight flaw you have.
  3. I had a buddy of mine record a couple of swings for me (but we only looked at them at the range, I haven't gotten a copy of them here yet to post) but two things really jumped out and I wanted to see which one I should work on first. 1) My head has a tendency to move a couple of inches down on the backswing, and this is sometimes coupled with maybe an inch of movement towards the ball (in a DTL view). With a face on view I can see the vertical drop, but luckily, there is no left/right movement (well, it moves right, but well into my follow-through). So what might be causing this, and how should I tackle fixing it? 2) My left arm appears to be detaching from my torso in the follow through (i.e. if I had a tee in my left armpit it would have fallen out shortly after impact). From everything I've seen that left arm should stay fairly connected to the torso through the finish. Which of these is a bigger problem, that I should tackle first? And what are some good drills to do so? (Obviously for #2 its the "tees under the arm" drill, so really I need a drill for #1, and a priority between the two).
  4. This was 100% on point. I used the webcam on my laptop as a stand-in to see body movement, and indeed my upper center was moving with my lower center, even though I thought I was keeping it still. As soon as I started keeping my head/chest steady, I was hitting clean shots and finishing is great balance. And consider my interest piqued, I hit some of the best shots I've ever hit, and I've just read up to the "Stack and Tilt in 30 minutes" section. I think I'll continue down this path for the rest of the summer and see where it gets me.
  5. Just picked up the book and am giving it an honest effort. The main problem I'm having is maintaining my balance, which surprises me. Every time I get a good swing on the ball I seem to be falling forward and needing to take a step to keep from falling. By forward, I don't mean in the direction my body was facing at address (perpendicular to the target line) but in the direction it faces at the finish (parallel to the target line). Is it me just shifting TOO much weight forward? The shots themselves tend to be straight pushes about 15~20 degrees to the right, with the occasional draw thrown in. I know the stock shot is a draw and I'm not seeing it often enough so I know I'm doing something wrong already. Picking up a Kodak ZxD this week to shoot swing videos. Any thoughts in the meantime?
  6. I had never played a scramble in my life until yesterday. Me and a few buddies were playing a par 3 course and two of us were just not on our iron game and it was getting pretty frustrating. So on the back 9 we decided to switch to scramble, with one good player and one struggling player for each team. I have to admit, it was a blast. Completely salvaged the round, we all were just having fun and enjoying golf. In fact, I played so much better on the back 9 (I was one of the strugglers), mostly because I knew I had my partner to back me up. I can see how some might not like it as it's not "pure" golf, but when you're having an off day, I would suggest to anyone to just try it out
  7. SO if I'm having trouble with both, which is more important to work on first?
  8. I've been using them and I love them. Not because I think they help my ball flight or distance, just for consistent height and durability. For par 3's, I just use whatever broken tee I find on the course.
  9. Could you post some links to these videos or websites explaining in more detail?
  10. My goals are much less lofty then what I've read on here. I just started playing in August '09, so my goal is simply to shoot under 100 by August 2010. So far the closest has been a 108. Short game and putting improvements will surely be the best way to my goal.
  11. I'm here for the pointers I didn't know I needed! That's the beauty and the curse of starting golf. I don't know half the things I don't know :)

    28. Just picked up golf this year, so I'm a late bloomer, but I'm still young enough that I have enough time to have a legit shot at schooling the young guns 20 years from now :)
  13. hi, just found this forum last night and promptly stayed up for several hours after my bed time just reading! Luckily I'm a telecommuter, so I can afford to wake up late. I'm an engineer for a DC firm, but I live in Georgia.
