  2. I just saw a post round interview with A. Cabrera after his opening round 65 at the Shell Houston Open. He was asked a few questions on his round, in English, which he obviously understood clearly as there was no hesitation in his answers....in Spanish. His coach acted as interpreter for his answers, but sure wasn't needed to interpret the question for him. I just find it rude when he understands English to answer in Spanish. Maybe he didn't care to be interviewed and this was his way of saying so, but he should remember who writes his paychecks.
  3. You guys are wusses. I use a 12 gauge to get plugged lies out of a bunker. Welcome to Texas :)
  4. I had an experience like this a few years back. I was playing in a foursome and well within the normal pace of play. There was a twosome behind us that hit into us. We looked back at them and raised our arms as if to say "what's up with that?". No, there were not any obscene jestures. After the second time this happened, my group waited at the next tee for them, offering to have them play through. They said no, they were sorry for hitting into us and would slow down. Two holes later it happened again. This time the dude's ball was within 20 paces of me. I walked over to it, picked it up and tossed it into the water. They got the hint. Was I wrong?
  5. This thread hits home for me. I just had a lesson from my local PGA pro, just because I'd never had one and was interested in what I was actually doing.. Watching the video, he commented on my rounded back and generally poor posture. Although he said he'd like to see that change, my club position at full back swing was "perfect" (shaft was level with the ground and club face was correct), my swing path was "perfect", my head position never moved, and I was striking the ball very well. So at my age of 55 and slightly disabled right leg, he said "don't change a thing!"
  6. I wonder how difficult it would be to create a list of members home towns/courses/HC for those who care to be on it? You could always PM a perspective partner with a similar HC.
  7. This ^^^^^^^^^ but it's all part of the look Agreed. He's a good player and deserves to be on tour, no doubt. But I think he's already counting the dollars he can make promoting himself, even without the win record.
  8. Dustin Johnson is who I'd like to see win. Bubba is my second pick.
  9. This makes the most sense to me. Every student is an individual with different flaws and needs. I have serious physical handicaps, so a "you must do it this way" instructor is worthless to me. I want an instructor who can work within MY abilities to achieve the goal of simple, basic good ball striking.
  10. I'm going through the same thing. I was just fitted for new irons and the clubs are "perfect" for me, per my PGA pro. The lie board doesn't lie, but I get 98* toe shots, especially with the longer irons. OK, this tells me that the problem is in my swing, This morning I tried standing closer to the ball, to where the hossel was almost lined up with the ball. SWEET SPOT! EVERY TIME! Like you said, it felt so good....or should I say I felt nothing in my hands, like the ball wasn't even there. I put one of those tell tale stickers on my 4 iron and hit 5 balls. There was ONE dark spot dead center of the club face. I figure I'm swinging from the outside to inside, thus making the club too short???? So now my decision is to correct my swing or just stand closer. Yeah, I know what ya'll are going to say, but my swing is screwed up anyway due to physical injuries at a younger age that are just now starting to restrict (change) my original swing. Right leg broken in 3 places, 4 surgeries and a bum left shoulder prohibit any real rotation nowadays, so for now I'm going to try just standing closer. If you're young and fit, I'd suggest getting help from a Pro. Otherwise, you're just going to reinforce your mistake over the years.
  11. I agree with Gerald. I just got the Burner 2.0 irons. I chose to go with the Vokey 56.11 I can lay it open to increase loft and bounce, or close it some to go the other way. I'm real happy with the choice as the 56.11 gives me many options of ways to use it.
  12. I needed a new wedge after buying my new irons. After speaking with my fitter, I went with Vokey 56/11. I've learned 3 different shots with it rather quickly. I can lay it open for more loft and bounce, play it straight for a bit longer shots to the green, or close it up for those little bump and run shots. I love this club !! For me, the 56/11 gives me the ability to hit different shots with ease.
  13. I'm still rooting for Paula. Gulbis is T70 @ even par, along with my other favorite Sandra Gal. Tomorrow's going to be a big day in the movement.
  14. Thanks for the reply. I just picked up the new irons today. No time to experiment until next week and then I have to go out of town for a week, That sucks :( I did find a new practice range today that has two practice bunkers, two chipping greens, and a par 3. I think I'll be spending a lot of time there even if it is 25 miles from home. You're correct about the bounce in the TM Burners, PW and AW = 7*. Lofts are 45* & 50*. The Burner SW = 55/11 and the LW = 60/12. I'm fairly sure I'll get a BV 56/11 for the sand and decide the need for a LW later. I'll check in after my trip and after I've had time to hit the range. Maybe I'll even sneak in 18! Thanks for running this group too. I hope to learn much more and strengthen this part of my game.
  15. I like the idea of specific groups. Uppin' and downin' is my biggest problem. My drives are OK, usually in regulation, leaving me 100 - 150 yards to go. I hit the green maybe 25% of the time, and if I'm off I'm in real trouble. I've been studying wedge play a lot, but can't put that all into play yet as my new set of irons aren't due in until Monday 6/6/11. I got TM Graphite Burner 2.0 4-AW. I'll be researching and adding a SW and LW asap. I only have a 45*PW and a high bounce SW with my current set, which is all wrong for me. The new sticks are just a beginning. I need low bounce wedges as the turf here is like a rock, as is the sand. We've had no rain in almost 4 months and the courses are burnt up. I've made the financial commitment to get fitted for the new irons and additional wedges, so now I plan on learning to use them! Most of the greens here are elevated, which makes it impossible for me to get on the green from anywhere close. I hit them fat and skull the ball.....with great consistency! Forget taking a divot, it's like hitting off a rock. ( I can't afford to play the good courses, I'm stuck with the muni's) New wedges will be 7* bounce on the PW and AW, yet to be determined on the other two. Can I be the test case for this forum? Ya'll get me using wedges better and I'll buy you all a beer
