Today at practice I shot a 40... 6 straight par's a tripple on the seventh and then a three put bogey on 8 and then par to finish it out lol.

Funny, with me I love getting paired with someone that is playing poorly. I guess it makes it easier for me to focus and have fun with it.

I'll bite... but i'm not sure if my response will be helpful as my case is different than most since I never played golf in high school (nor was I playing golf in high school). I hear from people on my team that the transition is not difficult off the golf course as long as you manage your time effectively. This is pretty crucial because matches often are long distances away and on school days. On the course, however, freshmen have complained about having to play from the tips vs. the regular men's tee boxes, and the tournaments are longer. Overall, the play is a little more competitive from my understanding. Hope this helps...

Whats the most nervous you've ever been?
braaaaaaaadley replied to gripitandripit's topic in Golf Talk
Well I started playing golf my freshman year of college with some buds... who convinced me to join the golf team the following year. Luck would have it that midway through the season half the team could not go to this really big D1 tournament (we're DIII) at this huge 7200 yd course and I was asked to go. That whole weekend I struggled not to make a complete a$$ of myself and I dont think I succeeded. It kinda sucked because I was paired with this guy from Gardner Webb the first day who could hit the ball like 300 with his 1 iron and i kid you not about 360 with his driver. I felt like I was playing against MJ in basketball. -
Steep down swing or Shallow?
braaaaaaaadley replied to Maverick's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thats funny... I always thought that I had a pretty shallow swing, but my ballflight is higher than heck. I will hit my 6 iron higher than members of my golf team hit there nine. I guess that explains why my distance is about 10-20 yards shorter than theirs is too. -
Cool... yea thats what I was thinking, but I was not sure if the rescue clubs were meant to replace longer irons or merely to supplement them. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Hey, im looking for a club to go in between my 3 iron and 3 wood. I hit my 3 iron around 210+- and my 3 wood goes around 250-260. Would it be best for me to get a 5 wood or go for a utility club of some sort. I know where I can get a good deal on a mizuno 21* utility wood, but the prob is my 3 iron is also 21* so I dont think that will work. My question is what would work better? I like hitting irons a whole lot better than woods so if I could get the distance with a utility club I would like to go down that road. What do you all use to fit the gap in between your irons and woods?? Thx, Brad

Irons: Mizuno MP-30's Stiff Wedge's: Titleist Vokey oil can 52*:8 and 60*:12 Driver: Just broke my TM R510 and am useing a friends Nike 9.5* something right now. 3-wood: Callaway Steelhead plus Putter: Old TM putter from the late 80's (whatever works) Ball: Whatever's cheap or free. Believe it or not I like top flite's over pro v1's. Lately I have been playing tournaments with Ben Hogan Apex Tour's. Thinking about replacing the gap wedge and getting a cleveland cg10 2 dot 50* gap wedge and a 1 dot 54* sand wedge since my ball flight is so high and just keep the 60* vokey. A new putter might be in order also.

I was playing with a d*ck friend of mine who is also on the golf team(well used to be [got kicked off]) at my school. Anyways he always is saying that I suck at golf and in life etc. We were playing at my school's course and in order for this story to make since, I have to give a small course description. The first hole is parallel to the fifth hole. They are both par 4's. When we play we usually just play 1-5 and then 1 again b/c its on our way back to the dorm. Anyways we both tee off on the fifth hole. My friend is not happy with his drive so he says ill just wait here you go on pick up my ball and play the rest of five and 1 over to me. So I play five and then walk down to the #1 teebox. I tee off and I hit this pull fade at least I think thats what it was (started off left but worked its way maybe 20yds right). The hole is about 250 uphill and I can drive the green- drive over the green pretty regularly. After I hit my shot and start walking my friend starts yelling something at me but I could not hear him. I get a little closer and I learn that my ball was 5 in from the hole (for all I know it went in but he pulled it out). I was happy with my tap in eagle since I finally got him to shut up about my golf game.

Yea, I think that was part of it b/c the guys I played with were LONG + one guy shot a 69. I think I have somewhat fixed the problem, but lately my swing has been killing my back on the left side of my spine about midway down. I still have a small fade on every shot, but I can just count on it i guess.

This might not be the best fix for your problem (it's my first time giving swing advice), but I have the same problem every now and then and I do the following things to keep it from impacting my drives. What is happening is during impact your clubface is "open" meaning that it is pointing to the right of your target. This is causing your ball to go right. What tends to make this problem worse is having a out to in swing plane. What I do to keep this from happening is: 1) Make sure you swing through the ball (not on an out to in swingplane)... this will ensure that your clubface is not open through impact. 2) Focus on your weight transition during your swing and make sure you are weighting your left foot properly. 3) Keep your head still and make sure not to dip your back and shoulders back during and after impact... if you do this, your ball will go right every time. 4) Make sure that your stance is parallel to the ball... aiming left will not fix your problem. I hope this helps and is not bad advice!

Thanks alot, I will give that a try tomorrow morning when I play my daily round.

First I would like to say that I would like help with all of my problems if thats okay. With my long Irons I tee them up 1-2 inches foreward of center (the longer iron the farther foreward), I tee my 6-Pw at center and my gap, sw and Lw slightly behind center (maybe a half inch). I don't take divots with any of my clubs b/c it always results in my shot being fat (this has always has been the case). With longer clubs the ball rests further from me since the shafts are longer and a less steep swing is required for a 3i than a Sw. Also something I didnt mention before is that with my new irons, I have a tendency to hit them off the toe (the shafts are stiff and 1/4in longer than my old ones). I componsate by placing the hozzle closer to the ball so I end up contacting the ball in the middle of the clubface. Thanks again

Hello all... this is my first post. I intend not to make it my last! I would like to thank you all in advance for any help you can provide. Anyways on to my problem. I have been playing golf for a little over 2 years. Last year I joined my D3 college golf team. At the time, the team was really loose and the coach did not care at all. This year things changed. We got a new coach who knows about coaching, but little about the golf swing. I worked my way from 10th on the team to 7th. Last week two members ranked lower than me got kicked off the team and I went to my first tournament ever last weekend spare of the moment. Things did not go well at all (not to mention we played all D1 teams and the guy I played with shot a 69). I got off the tee very well... with a friend's nike driver I had never hit before (I cracked the head of my Taylor Made 510 a couple days ago and am trying to get the waranty honored.) Unfortunately, my irons were the culprit. I have been hitting them long and straight recently, but while playing in the tournament, my usual problems came out in full. My problems include a tendency to hit the ball fat, (which I fixed by focusing on my weight transition), but what I have not been able to fix for good is the tendency for my ball to go right and short especially with longer irons. Recently I have been trying to keep my left arm straight and making sure that my club is square at impact, but it does not work all the time. If you all could provide any tips on how to keep this problem from arrising in the future, I would be most appreciative. All I want is to swing "right" and have a consistant, dependable swing that I can trust so I don't embarass myself in tournaments. Any advice/drills to help me with my problems would be vastly appreciated. I just bought new irons (mizuno mp-32's w/stiff shafts) and love them to death. (I feel really confident with them if that helps with all) Thanks again!
