  1. My warm up time (small bucket before round) translates directly to the course. If I'm hitting well during warm up, I have a pretty good round. If, like the last time I played, I'm spraying everything I know I'm in deep trouble, at least on the front 9. For whatever reason I couldn't hit my 6i last round to save my life. Normally one of my best clubs, but that day it was the worst club in the bag. If I have to hit off the mats, I typically wait until some grass opens up... I hate hitting on the mats.
  2. Never got out today. Have to play with the new app tomorrow instead. bplewis, how do you like it?
  3. My father has an old set of dunlop blades that are just sitting in a closet. He no longer plays the game so they will continue to sit there until they get thrown out. Would it be beneficial for me to practice with blades? I'm not good enough to play them yet, but my thought is that with the instant feedback from blades, I will know absolutely when I mis-hit the ball slightly. Where as with my X18r-s mis-hits are somewhat forgiven. Any thoughts?
  4. After a two week layoff, should I play: My usual "ok" course? A nice course that I haven't played in years? A (supposed to be) nice course that I have never played before? I plan to use my Droid with golfcard for the first time as well, so speed of play may be a slight issue while getting used to the app. I'm almost sure to play my usual course over the weekend at least once with the wife & kid, and maybe a second time with friends.
  5. Good luck with it. Take your time learning how to hit it well. There isn't much better than a new toy to play with!
  6. '98 Ford e250 cargo van. It's my work van/daily driver. I just love the sound of all my tools and hardware rattling around in the back. I can haul more golf bags than I know golfers. 2003 Dodge Intrepid. Favorite vehicle I've ever owned... '66 GMC 4x4 long bed with a retired race ready 350 small block.
  7. @ JDOT, I would definitely warn your dad. When I play with a new friend for the first time, I worry about their talent level, and how fast, or slow they might play. Knowing that I'm playing with someone way better than me is a lot of fun. I tend to watch them very closely to see if I can pick anything up. Enjoy the day, playing with my wife is a ton of fun. It's rare for a man and a woman to be able to share a sport and enjoy it together.
  8. I don't even like playing out of the sand let alone the WATER. I'll bet it was a fun shot, and the fact that you even got it out of the water, I agree and call AMAZING!!
  9. I own an adams hybrid-3 that I bought used at Golf Galaxy. I HATE that club. I worked diligently to try and learn how to hit. Never even once did I get a decent shot, let alone a good one. I just bought my 2009 launcher 17* a few weeks ago, and I can already beat the snot out of it. LOVE that club!
  10. I had that happen recently. My 6i is normally a really good club for me. But that day starting on the range and continuing through the whole round, if I swung the 6 it went dead right every time. Why it did that, I haven't got the foggiest idea. Next time out was like having my old 6 back, most every shot nice and clean right on target.
  11. At the course I play there is an uphill par 3 labeled as 145-yards. Google Earth says that the center of the green is 15-feet higher than the tee box (though it seems much more than that). I've played the course enough to know what club I need on a given day with a given wind, and how I'm striking the ball that day. My question is: Do you have a "formula" in your head that says... For every x-number of feet of inclination/declination, I need to increase/decrease club selection by this amount? Or do you just play it by feel? I ask because I hope to start playing other courses in my area, and I don't want the learning curve to skew my results.
  12. I've been browsing the forums (great place) and the other day I saw a post where someone used Google Earth to measure something. Thinking that would be cool, I installed it to check the distance of my longest drive to date. With approximate placement of the tee area, and pretty exact placement of the landing area (where it came to rest), my longest drive measured out to 298yds. My guesstimation is that roll accounted for only a small portion, maybe 10-yards of that distance as the hole is slightly uphill/sidehill, and the shot was hit after several days of rain making the fairways softer. Having read many of the how for is your average drive threads, let me add a disclaimer... This is most definitely NOT my average drive, just that one that I truly hit pure and flush. My average good drive is in the 250 neighborhood. The actual average is greatly diminished when OB shots and major slices are taken into account.
  13. I currently own a Handyman Service. I'm planning to potentially rejoin the normal work-a-day folks and take a regular J-O-B, hopefully as a Maintenance manager for an apartment complex.
  14. I suppose I enjoyed golf the most when I first started playing. Before I decided "I could be good at this game". I still enjoy it a great deal, but now I enjoy it most when I am just playing, and not worrying about "being good".
