I know this is an older post but just curious @iacasdo you still use the Blast sensor for putting practice? If so any drills or ideas of how to use it? I have one and have used it on and off for a few years mostly indoors. I've used the drill from the COVID practice plan to work on consistent stroke length and keep an eye on consistent rhythm and tempo for the various distances with the sensor. I get bored with it pretty quickly though so just wondering if there's anything I should be doing that I'm not haha

"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge
DaMoose90 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Day 1 (9/26/22): Did some wall drills focusing on getting to my left side on the downswing. Then hit some wiffle balls in the yard focusing getting to my left side without kicking my right leg/knee towards the ball. Also did some slow mo swings working on left wrist twist and roll in the downswing. Played nine holes- 16,743 replies

Yeah I remember about where they were and approximate distance but I would not trust myself to remember every one of my putts accurately enough. Been pacing them off and writing them down all year before I got shotscope so maybe I'll continue to do that until I get a better sense
-
Is anyone still manually writing down putt distances or paces to help with getting the pins and putts right? I ask because like some others have mentioned with the pin collect sometimes the putts and pins are dead on and sometimes they are way off. So how do people keep track so they can edit after?

Yeah that's a good rule. I don't get it either but it seems to be a trend in all areas of life people playing Bluetooth speakers everywhere. It's funny to me because now more than ever there are great options for wireless headphones etc. It's almost like we are going back in time to the "boom box" ...except then we had no choice.

People playing music on the golf course on a Bluetooth speaker... It was a far fetched joke in caddyshack.. now it's a sad reality. Drives me insane

I think there's two main things at play with blow up holes: 1. Penalty stroke avoidance- which obviously the better you are the fewer terrible shots you have but no matter who you are you will have some. Therefore the second thing is making good decisions. That doesn't mean being "conservative" per se but rather knowing your shot patterns and picking appropriate targets...PGA tour players have driver shot dispersions that are 65 yards wide on average!! You will hit it off line- you need to center your shot patterns so that the chances you end up in a bad place are lower. 2. Recovery situations- When in recovery situations (trees, hazard, just duffed it off the tee etc) you need to advance your ball as close to the hole as safely possible. The biggest thing is to not end up in another recovery situation. Two things that helped me in this regard are practicing a trouble shot on the range as suggested in LSW so that you have a go to shot in these situations. Also you need to pick a shot that you can execute 70-80% of the time. Don't be Phil from the trees on 13 at Augusta. The second thing that helped me was reframing my expectations. I would often times make worse scores by trying to "make up shots" after I hit a bad shot. Instead I tell myself now: get in play as close to the hole as I safely can. Knock it on two putt for my bogey and smile that it wasn't a double or a triple. Lastly this also applies when you leave yourself an insanely difficult shot sided chip. Knock it somewhere on the putting surface and two putt. Rather than take the hero chip. Remember there are some situations you put yourself in that NO golfer on earth is making better than bogey on that's just golf.

I agree they should count 9 hole rounds. People don't always have time to play 18 and if you are using this for stats for your own improvement then the more data points the better. The logic from support about not including them makes no sense to me.

Thoughts on This Article About "Mechanics"
DaMoose90 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The spirit of what he's saying is clubface control is important, which I agree with but I think it's going over board to say mechanics aren't important. Golf advice is sometimes akin to diet fads " lose weight without counting calories with these 3 tips"... Haha. Also I think that most people underestimate the fact that your brain and body are smart and will figure out a way to hit the ball despite your poor mechanics and strange places you may put it in. Therefore a lot of times excessive clubface manipulation is a result of poor mechanics in attempt to simply hit the ball instead of the earth. I think that you need good mechanics that put you in positions that require minimal clubface manipulation for your swing. I think maybe what the author is trying to say is you should have intention with your shots and practice to try to hit a certain shots with a predictable shape and most people don't practice that which is true...but I don't think simply training clubface control will overcome what Jim McLean used to call "death moves" haha -
You guys have a ton more experience with all different level of players than I do so I can believe that. I guess my only point was if you knew your shot zone then in picking your target you would account for the relative right/left skew and you would know your general carry distance but I guess if you have a large shot zone and/or you don't even know where your shot zone is then it might not be bad advice. Everyone's responses have convinced me that maybe it isn't as bad advice as I thought initially.

Just got the pro lx + because I needed a range finder and figured I would try the H4 as well, as I have been doing a lot of my stats by hand and entering them in to get SG and it is getting tiring and time consuming. Two questions: For the tags I screwed them into my Golf Pride Tour velvet grips but due to the bow of the rubber at the end of the grip it doesn't seem to be sitting completely flush- is this where the Gorilla Glue Sealant helps secure it and fill this gap? They also seem more prominent than I was expecting (even though I know they are thinner than most) does that bother people or do you get used to it? I have a super stroke but do not have a counter weight, any recommendations? Use the adhesive tape as someone suggested? Thanks for the help

Fair enough. I guess it does depend on your shot zone shape, which club etc. My experience is obviously not scientific in any way and is n of 1 Good point. I've definitely been in that situation before
