  1. Got my tickets for Sunday and will be there with some friends. My first ever tour event! Anyone have any suggestions on making the experience as good as possible?
  2. Horrific round. Hurt my wrist on the first swing and struggled the rest of the morning. Sent from my HTC EVO using tapatalk.
  3. Yuck. Sent from my HTC EVO using tapatalk.
  4. Love the suggestions guys. I will let you know how I approach this! Sent from my HTC EVO using tapatalk.
  5. This. I hate going to the course only to find out the greenskeeper had a fight with his wife last night and placed the pin on the side of Mount Everest. I don't like leaving a ball inches from the pin, only to have it roll back to my feet. It feels like the last hole at Bozo's Clown Extravaganza Mini Golf where you have to hit the ball up a ramp into the clown's mouth or it rolls back at you. I also hate any hole with a 90 degree turn in it. If I half to "lay up" off the tee with a 9 iron only to have to hit a 3 wood into the green, I don't like the hole.
  6. When my wife was learning to play, my cousins girlfriend was giving her a swing tip. During the backswing my wifes club hit her on the side of the face. Scary at first, then we laughed it off. Some of you guys have seen some crazy stuff!
  7. I have a family member who basically plays from the fairway every hole, because he kicks his ball out or just drops from there. It doesn't bother me until we get to the end of the round and he says he "beat" me by a stroke.
  8. I practiced with this extensively over the past 1.5 weeks or so. I have seen a big improvement in consistently hitting the ball well and hitting it where I want to go. I know one of my major problems was a takeaway that was too straight back. I feel because of this, my right arm was separating from my body. I also noticed another amazing thing. Increased distance with my irons and driver. I find myself being able to use my body more to swing rather than my arms. I outdrove my usual drives on my home course by a lot, and found myself going for 8 or 9 irons on par 3's where I usually have a 7. This forum is a wealth of information, but this explanation has been the biggest improvement to my swing this year. Thanks guys!
  9. I forgot to mention, there is no range at this course. There is a putting/chipping area.
  10. Well tomorrow I have a crazy early tee time (by most peoples standards, I am usually at the office at this time during the week) at 6:27AM. I didn't know courses had such early times, but apparently the Mountainview Course in Morgantown does. How do you guys prepare your bodies to be ready to go at such early times? I'm a slow starter anyway (usually take 3 or so holes before I feel good). Your thoughts, and any advice you can offer to my humble game would be appreciated. I imagine the course is going to change like crazy as the sun comes up and it begins to warm. This is my home course, so I am comfortable with the layout, but I've always played it around 9AM.
  11. Yes, the worst holes were the ones where there would be a very large bunker guarding the front of my approach path. I was pretty much resigned to my ball rolling off the back edge. Oh well, I got lots of long putt/short chip practice!
  12. I have been playing a lot of golf lately (several times per week) after a several year layoff. Last Saturday I played a course for the first time. I loved the course with one major exception: the greens were so hard that any shot my partner and I tried to land on them would 9 times out of 10 roll right off. After playing there again on Wednesday, I saw the same thing. We didn't have a ball mark to repair in 54 holes. ZERO! I played much better Wednesday than Saturday, having a better feel for the greens (my putts went WAY down), but it was frustrating to have nothing stick. My question is, how do you approach playing a green that is so hard that the ball won't sit, but will bounce really high in the air and roll off the green upon landing.
  13. This is a great post and makes a ton of sense to me! Not my swing thread, but very helpful, indeed.
  14. This happened to me the other day. I kept looking and looking for my ball on a 342 yard par 4 and we found it in the greenside bunker. About 80-90 yards past where I normally hit a good drive.
  15. This! But it is typically with my chipping/putting. This is actually why my handicap is what it is. I start well with chipping/putting and I have a good few holes, then BAM. It goes away. It makes it really frustrating to have a nice drive, a nice wedge to the green, then bogey the hole. Or trying to get up and down just to chip two feet or smack it over the green. Having three kids under three years old makes it difficult for me to practice too much and work it out. Most of the time I will go out and do well for a while, then lose it for the middle part of the round, then get it back.
  16. I also dislike the "long just so we can say we are long" courses. Especially the ones that offer nothing that is appealing to the eye, and no hazards. I don't like playing a course where I get deja vu on every par 4.
  17. Hey all. I was at a discount sports store today and saw a bunch of these Nike Juice Plus 312 balls. They were 9.99/dozen so I picked up a lot. Can anyone tell me about these? Your experiences? I was going to play them in a practice round Friday before a best ball tourney on Sunday. I will also prob give some to my friends/ family for Sunday if the review is favorable. Thanks!
  18. Well, I have only been here since February. Moved here from TN and miss my favorite course (Warriors Path State Park). I think most of the public courses here in the Morgantown area are underkept and overpriced. I don't like paying $30+ for a course that doesn't even label it's hole numbers and where you can't distinguish between fairway and rough. I am going to do a bit of searching for some nice places to play around here though. I grew up in Newport News, VA and loved the courses down there. I will be down next weekend to play in my late uncles memorial golf tournament and cancer benefit. Thanks for the welcome!
  19. Hello, all. I just joined the forum after lurking for the past few weeks. I had taken a 4 year break from golf and have just started playing again last month, consistently shooting in the 90's. It's a great game, and very fun/relaxing for me, regardless of how I play.
  20. When I first started I took a lot of practice swings. Now that I have a swing that is fairly consistent, I don't. I find it wears me out, especially in the hot summer.
  21. My friends and I played at a local course here in WV a few weeks ago. We started off on the third hole at their request. The next group started at 5. That left a hole between us. We caught them on the 7th. By the time we got to the 12th, we were on the tee box waiting for them to finish and we could look back and see the 11th tee box. 6 carts were waiting to tee off there, a group was in the fairway (2 carts), and another group on the 11th green (4 guys). The slow group never waved us through. We asked and they got attitude and aggressive. So we just skipped a hole. We didn't catch up to another group all day long. The group that was holding everyone up was terrible, and either had a lot of drops or was playing a two or three balls apiece.
  22. I am a process chemist. I develop new routes to make a desired molecule on a plant scale.
