Maybe the guy was hitting a new driver, maybe it was his weakest club, maybe there is an inferiority complex, etc. If he was inconsistent with his driver, you may not have wanted to see him hit irons anyway.
And to Stretch, I have been in that situation myself, and nearly flopped my toe.
Agreed. I would think that a stiffer shaft would cause the ball to loft higher (at least that's how it stands to reason in my head). I can tell a slight difference between a 10.5 and a 9, but I have to think the shaft has a lot to do with it as well.
I have an old 3 hybrid that I keep for that purpose because A) I have upgraded and no longer technically need it, and B) I hate that damn club. It works out good, though, because it's good for punching, and the heel of it is sharply angled enough to cut through the rough stuff pretty well.
Nothing has helped my game more than a few rounds at a par 3 course. There is actually a Championship par 3 in town that is one of the hardest courses I have played yet. Narrow, separated holes with a lot of garbage in between that will really punish you for hitting a ball off line.
As far as Bobby retiring...I will have to see it to believe it. There was a great article about him in SI a few weeks back. A lot of insight into what makes him tick.
Chipper is saying now that he doesn't want to end his career with a major injury, and if his rehab allows he wants to try to play next season. I was sure that this was his last year with all the retirement talk mid-season, but he's made it a little more unclear now. I think if the Braves do well in the playoffs and miss the WS he will be back next season. Bobby too, honestly.
Can anyone give me suggestions on courses in/near Charleston, SC? We are going to play at least 4 rounds while we are there, one of which will be a Kiawah Island course. I don't want to play all my rounds on Kiawah because they are rather proud of their courses. I have played the Municipal, but I am looking for some feedback about Shadowmoss, the Wild Dunes courses, etc. Any suggestions?
Agreed. It's all in the confidence. I am partial to a Callaway HX Hot, but I have played several other balls and do as well on the scorecard. Some people might be able to tell a difference in feel, spin, etc., but I would be willing to bet that I could hit several different brands in a blank ball test, and I wouldn't be able to tell what I was hitting. Placebo effect I guess.
