  1. In my situation, I started hitting the ball well and it made me want to stick with my game improving Nike Ignites forever. But, as my swing progressed and my hands got stronger and quicker, the offset started hurting me. I started unintentionally drawing all my irons. So, I didn't want to go to a straight up players blade because I don't think I'm good enough to consistently hit them, instead, I went with the MP-57s which are more forgiving than a full blade with less offset than GI sets. With that said, until you run into something like that, I'd keep what you've got.
  2. When was the last time you played Chickasaw? It's about 15 minutes from my house.
  3. Adding to what zeg said, you should get more spin out of a Pro V1. So, it will hold up longer with more backspin, but that same spin will also work sideways. So, if you don't square one up it is more likely to be a worse slice or hook than with a cheaper ball because of the added spin. Also, there sure are a lot of Tennesseans on this site!
  4. I say you should get the 52° and lighten up on the PW as necessary. Or, as has been mentioned, get either one and have it bent.
  5. Depending on how used they are, that may not be a very good deal anyway. I got a used Vokey a while back for $27 that was in pretty good shape. The place where I got it had a few others in the same price range.
  6. I understand that. I just want to be the guy that said, "Tiger can win this one" when he actually does. I'm like you in that I've never considered myself a Tiger fan, but its just so much fun to watch when he's doing well. I will remember the 2008 U.S. Open forever because of him. I was actually rooting for Mediate pretty hard. Anyway, I would like to think he's still got it and there is a little part of me that believes that, but after going 18 over...
  7. John Daly. Grip it and rip it! Nah, I'm a big fan of Fred Couples's swing, especially with the irons. So smooth and effortless looking.
  8. My goodness that course is in fantastic shape! It is absolutely beautiful! I think Hunter Mahan has a chance in this one. He's playing well and he'll have some momentum coming in. But, I think everybody is too quick to write off Tiger. I don't think he'll come out and dominate, but I'd watch out for him come Sunday.
  9. I've never actually used any of the Phiten products, but I've had friends swear by them. One of my friends used a Phiten sleeve on an arm in which he was having a little pain in baseball. I've had various other people tell me about the effects that the necklaces or the bracelets were having. Maybe it was all in their heads. I don't know. I've never actually tried them out, and judging by the price on the little things, I probably never will! Although, I'm a huge Braves fan and I've been tempted to buy one of the Braves bracelets, but they are just too expensive for what they are.
  10. I've heard Pro V1x as well as the Taylormade Penta.
  11. I've had a couple errant balls bounce off the top of my cart, but I've never had anybody behind me hit into me. The only time I've actually been hit by a ball was in high school. We were playing a practice round and one of the guys in my group was lining up an iron shot. I was about 10 feet away from him looking at him face on. He goes to take a practice swing and accidentally hits the ball right off the edge of the club. It made a bee line for me and by the time I realized what happened it popped me right in the kneecap. I just walked it off for a second and we all had a good laugh about it.
  12. While forging doesn't really add much playability wise, it does produce a slightly different feel. If you're interested in Mizuno irons, I highly recommend you try some out. If you're looking for some game improvement irons, look at the Mizuno MX series. If you feel like you can handle a players iron and want a set that you can "grow with" look at the MP series. This is my personal opinion, but I don't think you can go wrong with Mizuno.
  13. That is another thing I've been playing with. I've been experimenting with different balls lately to see how things affect my drives. I've noticed that using different balls doesn't affect my iron play much if at all, but it really affects my drives. I'm currently working on a dozen PD Softs and I'm honestly not really a fan so far. I've tried the V1 and got decent results, not $45 per dozen good, but decent, but I've yet to try the V1x.
  14. Indeed. The higher spin ball was affecting my longer shots so consistently that it was adding a stroke on nearly every hole. Needless to say, I played only three rounds with those balls before giving up on them.
  15. Those Ansers do look pretty sweet.
  16. I don't know what kind of place it is, but I had a buddy that used the rental set at our local course a few years back and it was a very nice set of Cobras. They only charged like $5 on top of the regular price to let him use them. I say go for it.
  17. After I played one certain ball for a while and was doing very well with it, I decided I wanted a higher spin ball. So I bought some higher spin balls and there was good news and bad news. The good news is that I had marginally better spin and control around the green, which is a good thing. However, the bad news is that with a higher spin ball, my draws and fades off the tee turned into hooks and slices and my scores went way up. By "way up" I mean like 15-18 strokes per round. I went back to the other ball and noticed it was the ball causing the change and not my swing becoming worse all of a sudden.
  18. I love distance and I would love to hit it 300-310 consistently, but I don't think that will ever happen. I'm happy hitting it 265 and having a short iron to the green. I couldn't be happier with my iron play, but if I beef up on the driver swing I'll almost definitely lose it right every time. This makes me think of the Heineken commercial where the guy slowed his swing down and is happy hitting it 150 down the middle.

    Speed golf

It is a little odd. It certainly doesn't sound like it would be very fun. I'm always sad when the round comes to an end. Clearly, those guys don't feel the same way. Even though I think it is a bit foolish, I don't guess I really have a problem with it as long as they aren't acting a fool like in Dave's case: I probably wouldn't have moved. You're on the green and if he wants to play through, he can wait a few more seconds. But, if you didn't move and he hit it anyway, I would have some harsh words for him and would most likely report him at the club house for being such an idiot.

    Okay?

The only way a shaft can rust from the inside out is to get some water on the inside of it. If soaking your grips is the only time they see water, then that is probably the culprit. I'd recommend plugging the hole with a tee or something from here on out.
  21. If nothing else, I feel better about what I'm already doing then. I've read that ball flights are getting higher and higher with equipment advances (at least on the tour). I'm nowhere near a tour player, but I guess that makes sense. With each driver upgrade, my flight has gotten progressively higher. I thought maybe I was just using the new-fangled stuff wrong. The drives I was hitting with my old Henry Griffitts driver (which is about the size of my current 3 wood) back in high school just looked better to me. But, thinking back, I wasn't hitting them any farther and the good ones were far less consistent than they are now. I kind of feel dumb for starting this thread now
  22. Ah... thanks for the Russian graph It just seems to me to be a bit high. Since I can't see the flight of my ball from the side, I don't know for sure if it is just a higher trajectory or not. My driver is 9.5°, by the way. Maybe I'm just a fool. But, it just seems like I should be hitting the ball a little lower than I am.
  23. That's what I thought about the shaft. I am getting a consistent 265-270 and sometimes I do something wrong and touch the 300 mark, so maybe hitting it as high as I am isn't a problem. It just seems like it is climbing too fast. It looks almost like a wedge shot to me. It comes right off the club face and shoots into the air.
  24. I've been pretty content with my driving game for a while now and, in a way, I still am. I'm just looking for some opinions on little things I may be able to change. I have a Nike VR driver with a stiff Aldila Voodoo shaft. I haven't had my swing monitored in a while, but I believe my swing speed is just north of 100 mph. Right now, I'm getting a good 265-270 yards out of my drives. My problem is, they seem to be ballooning like crazy! The ball comes off the club face and climbs very high very quickly. I feel like I could squeeze a couple extra yards out of it if I can get more of a rising, penetrating flight. Even if I can't get any more distance, I would still like to keep the ball a bit lower on my drives. Currently I line the ball up with the inside of my front foot. I feel like moving the ball back in my stance will help me out by not hitting the ball on a slightly upward swing, but I don't know how far I should move it back to get an "ideal" point of contact. I'm open to any tweaking, just let me know what you think. If it doesn't work I can always go back to hitting it high.
  25. At the moment, I'm playing some Nike PD Soft. I like them well enough. Ironically, I've been trying out different balls recently and picked up a cheap box of Top Flite XL7000 Soft just to have something to play that day and I liked them more than anything I'd played up to that point. That includes any Titleist ball. I just "clicked" with those balls and hit them SO well. I was very surprised at how much I liked them simply because they are under $13 for 15 balls. After I found how much I liked those Top Flites I bought a dozen of the PD Softs. I wanted to see if I could get the same feel with a little more distance. I've played only one round with the Nike balls, but, so far, I really like them a lot.
