  1. The X-factor is not what creates torque and power in a golf swing.
  2. On new courses hit the shot that you know you can hit, generally meaning playing safer golf by avoiding the big mistakes. I personally tend to overall play very well on new courses except i tend to make a lot of big numbers and ruins my score. Another thing I like to do on new courses is not spend much time practicing putting or short game as I have had way too many experiences where the greens on the course are completely different from the practice green and it completely throws me off the whole round.
  3. 10 as everyone should be a happy camper golfing.
  4. I actually agree with you i did not take into consideration that he may be gripping it too tightly, which may be the case as he stated before that he does have big hands.
  5. True but one of the more successful ways to fix a slice is to get them to hook the ball then bring them back to straight.
  6. Take 3 practice swings while looking at the hole your eyes will tell you how hard to swing then set up to the ball and putt. I Learned this from a PGA Master Professional.
  7. Best piece of advice I have ever received is to take and bucket of balls and slice every single one of them. In your case it would be the opposite take a bucket of balls and hook every single one of them.
  8. Since you are a beginner I would strongly suggest that you do not use a 60* wedge as it pretty hard to hit properly. If I were you I would get the 52 56 and bend the 52 into a 51. I have many friends who are single digit handicaps and do not use more than a 56 and do not feel the need for more loft as they can hit all the shots they need to with the 56.
  9. I consider myself to be a long hitter driving distance of about 280 and I dont always play the back tees at golf courses especially new ones. When a golf course is 7,000 yards it is more than likely going to challenge the golfer on more than how far you can hit the ball. I do not see why people feel the need to always play the back tees because at the end of the day is "what did you shoot?" not what tees did you play?" When someone asks what did you shoot many peoples answers are I shot 110 but I played the tips. If you move forward a set of tees or not and someone asks what did you shoot and you say 88 their response will be wow thats awesome! To conclude nobody cares what tees you play from the final number on the scorecard is all that matters. PS. when I was a junior golfer I would play the whites and outdrive any adult in my group by 50 yards when there was only a 20 yard difference in the tees. How do you think that made them feel?
  10. From what I can see in the video your clubface appears to be dead shut at the top and then you come over the top and actually squaring the clubface, however the clubface is open in relation to your swing plane resulting in the pull slice I'm assuming you hit.
  11. Bigger grips will make your slice worse because they limit hand action making it harder to turn over the club my guess is that it is a swing flaw. Also what do you consider a neutral grip? How many knuckles can you see on your top hand?
  12. Um find a different teacher if you are a 6 handicap which clearly means you are a talented player he should of been able to fix your slice or at least tone it down to a fade. Did this teacher look at your grip? because I would be willing to bet that it is too weak leading to compounding effects throughout the swing.
  13. Honestly start playing from around 6,000 yards as I find it hard to believe that you are not slowing anyone down when you are hitting 3 full shots into the green. Also, if you are serious about getting better play the ladies tees every once and a while, may seem weird but this is a very common technique used by lots of good players as hit forces you to hit shots and also used to help people who are "afraid to go low". The reason this works is because your brain gets used to the idea of writing low numbers down consistently.
  14. I am currently a PGM student at Clemson, and I have my qualifying test on thursday. I was hoping anyone here has any advice about the test. The teachers have been making sure that we really know the material. However, im still concerned about it as it as a very low pass rate. thanks guys
  15. My bad got got mixed up on which one was which. I know the rules on for the different stakes just made a mistake on which one was which.
  16. It happened on the 18th hole today where there is a lateral hazard marked by yellow stakes which is a forced carry from the tee, and my friends tee shot hits the rocks (in the hazard) and bounces backwards. However he is able to play the ball from the hazard as it is lying in a beach like area, so he proceeds to hit his shot and skulls it into the rocks and bounces backwards but this time far enough so that it goes into the water. So the question here is where does he drop? because I'm pretty sure you cannot drop in a hazard and his ball had never crossed the hazard line at any point during his second shot. Does he drop in the hazard? Re-tee? or something else? We let him just drop the ball in the hazard as we couldn't come up with any other solution
  17. I have worked at a golf store with launch monitors and they are set up to be longer. Not because they want you to buy the club but because of have the all the numbers are translated by the computer to give a ball flight. The computer is assumes that you are hitting under ideal conditions and that the ball has been struck in the center of the clubface. The main reason they you hit it longer on simulators is because they poorly judge roll, meaning that the ball rolls much farther on the simulator than you would get on the course. However simulators are the best way to compare clubs.
  18. It was a general idea clearly there would have to be exceptions. Let's be honest here the way tee markers are set up is so everyone will have about the same distance into the hole. However they really need to be set up so people are going to have the same club into the green. From 150 yards I hit 9 iron and some of the people I have played with are hitting woods from 150 yards so it makes more sense for them to be hitting their approach shots from 80 yards or so.
  19. Yes, when I play with my dad. He is terrible and the whole round its non stop why did I do this why did I do that, where's my ball. I thought you were good how come you hit it in the trees. After a while I cant stand it anymore.
  20. As lucky as they may be a lot of them struggle with not thinking of it as their job. When it becomes a job it's not fun when your life may actually depend on how well you play.
  21. I dont think/ dont like option 1. The only way to get people to play from the right set of tees is by having tees based on handicap not colors. Tee 1: Women, Senior Citizens, and Kids under 12 Tee 2: Max and better Tee 3: 20 and better Tee 4: 12 and better Tee 5: 5 and better This way people will be required to play the right set of tees. Like the rest of the country I'm sick of playing with people who hit driver, fairway wood then wedge into par 4's when they could move up and hit driver iron into par 4's.
  22. Let me put it this way most of anyone's shots are going to happen around the greens so it makes sense that this is the best way to lower your handicap. Golf is a game based on compensating for imperfections. The perfect shot simply doesn't exist. Short game compensates for approaches not always being on the green. The main reason short game is so important is for scoring if i can hit 2 bad shots and be by the green and get up and down thats a par for me. On the other hand if you hit a 250 yard drive and hit it on the green and 2 putt thats a par. What this comes down to is I had a bad hole and still made par while you had a good hole and we made the same score. When you have a bad hole it's bogey or worse. Perfect example is Jason Day's final round of this year's U.S. OPEN he hacked his way around the course, missing fairways and missing greens and he didn't make a bogey all day. Just pars and birds. Without the short game he would have made himself look like a fool.
  23. BTW it's been proven that a corked bat doesn't hit the ball as far as a regular one.
  24. Pro's hit about 12 greens in reg a round. Short game is what keeps the round going if you are playing well and it is also what can save a round when you are not playing at your best. Im also guessing that you hit 9 greens in reg if you're lucky so if you can get a couple of those up and down thats a great round. The short game is also what separates the good from the great. Plenty of people can hit the ball as well as tour pros but their short game isn't even close to the same league.
  25. True but they do own Srixon.
