Need some new golf shoes, what you all wearing?
AMGfan replied to BigDog's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've got to go back to footjoys...classics dry premier, classic tour, dryjoy pro, and the contour series are great shoes out of the box...just make sure you know your size and width (the latter being very important). The are a bit more cost wise, but they will last and are comfortable. I have several Nike SP series, while stylish are not as comfortable. The difference in quality is noticeable. I have had no experience with TW versions yet so I can't really comment on them. -
I play with a Bill, but he's just bald...not a retard. What makes your Billy a "retard."

If you've played the Babes on a regular basis...you probably have seen me there. We usually play first thing in the morning Saturday or Sunday. I'm the short Filipino guy smoking cigars.

Yes...it's a shame that USF GC (The Claw) isn't in better shape. I play a lot of golf in Tampa...Babes Zaharias, Westchase, Heritage Isles, Heritage Harbor, etc... My group likes to go to Orlando, too. We are playing OCN (Orange County National) this weekend.

Checking in...been here since 1985 (sophomore year @ USF - University of Sun and Fun).

Down right unappealing, predictable and boring.

+1 You definately have to give the course some credit. All 4 rounds the last 3 holes were pretty tough on everyone, even Tiger (I think he had a bogey on 18th 3 out of the 4 rounds). Add that the pressure of a Sunday with Tiger in the lead, then more than likely Tiger wins. -
Golf is supposed to be fun for the average joe and life is too short to take a bad shot seriously.

Footjoys (Classics and MyJoys) all the way baby...comfort out of the box. -
I agree...Mr. Palmer's personality, play, and good looks really made TV viable in golf and vice versa. Without TV, the growth and popularity of golf would not be where it is today (even with its warts). Mr. Palmer was the perfect steward of the sport when TV came into golf. If Nicklaus came in at the same time as Palmer (even though talent wise he was better), I don't think he would have propelled golf in TV as much as Palmer. PLUS...what would I do without the Golf Channel? Palmer was instrumental in the takeoff of this network, too.

Iacas...good read. You put some statistical fact into my intuitive impression on Tiger's impact.

This may sound stupid, but it really isn't...Are they the right size? I know that certain styles of shoes I fit better a half size larger.

I guess I'm in the other camp...I'd like to see him play more. He only plays a limited schedule and some folks bitch we see too much of him. The people who better not bitch about his presence are the tour players and the PGA...his impact on the money in the sport (advertising, purse, sponsorship) only makes the other players wealthier and more privileged to be at that level. If people are sick of him...you better get used to it because this is Tiger's era. As far the free pass for Mickelson, I thought his flight was grounded and that was why he didn't make it to the Pro-Am? If that's the case, then I'd give him a pass, too. The preferential rulings for Tiger? You might have to get more specific to have proper arguement whether that was the case. If you are talking about the reduced field in Tiger's event in Washington, you got to remember that was the week for the International. An event that no longer exists, so Tiger's event would actually provide a source of income for that week for the players. Granted, it will be a smaller field, but its better than nothing. Are they catered too much? Hell, yes! However, I would be right with them thanking my lucky stars that I was good enough to be in the PGA...I'm not and I'm with everyone else watching them on TV. I just don't begrudge them for the trappings they've earned.

Very low...the ball makes impact at the bottom part of the face. However, I find I still get great height with TM SQR7 just by how I finish (high). I buy the shortest tees possible...maybe 2 1/4" or 2 3/4".

Funny you mentioned that...I just got done watching it. I haven't got my first issue yet, but I plan on picking up the latest issue at Barnes and Noble tonight. Thanks for the heads up!

That's what I do too. If I play with a slower player, I just let them know I play ready golf. I won't be rude about it...if they are heading to their ball or if they are taking their time to make a decision on what club to hit and I see a hole to hit the shot...I will and move forward. I only do this if I see that we are not keeping up or if the are really "watching paint dry" slow.

I have the Fuente Fuente Opus X in my humidor now, but haven't smoked it yet. I'll give it a try this weekend.

You have great taste in cigars ! I just signed up for Cigar Aficionado's magazine and website and I found out that they had La Flor Dominicana chisel madura at a 92 rating. I couldn't agree more with the rating. I just ordered a box of the chisel (#10 in a box). The cigar shop even showed me the "correct" way to cut the chisel...partially (not all the way through) punch a hole at the top end of the cigar. Supposedly, this allows the smoke to whisper through the partially punched hole so the smoker can enjoy the aroma of the smoke. Enjoy!

I love the Partagas black label series...they are a staple in my humidor.

Well...I picked up a new stick last week that I have to recommend. It is La Flor Dominicana double ligero chisel...it has a great draw and it is such a smooth smoke with a long finish. It is medium to full...closer to full bodied and has a spicy and sweet flavor that makes this a great stick. It is a good value too at only $7 a stick...

Thats fantastic...at that age just getting there attention on one thing is an accomplishment.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, but some golf clubs are partly the problem... 1. Overbooking...we showed up at a course with a tee time that I set. It happened that the club also gets email tee times via a service and the tee time we had was double booked...6 hour round. 2. Lack of rangers or pseudo rangers (the ones that just ride around in a cart to make sure the grass is still green)...someone has to enforce slow play policy... 3. Inconsistent tee time staggering... 4. Some clubs don't even have a slow play policy or never enforce the one they have... Slow players will NEVER speed up unless they are educated properly, whether it be within their own group or by the ranger. Once a policy is put forth at the golf shop or the ranger station, then at least the golfers are put on notice and aware of the consequences...

I just got done watching the episode...Is it me or none of their games worthy of a tour exemption? DD is an arrogant arse and will never make a dent on any tour based on his temperent and overcompensation...he just gets in his own way.
