Looking for a little help here. I currently have a cheap, no name set of clubs that I am playing with. Last year I bought a Callaway 52 degree x-tour wedge, and I LOVE IT. It works well for me for anything around the green.

However, I have a generic PW & SW that I would like to replace with a used wedge from one of my local shops that sells used clubs.

What degree wedges would be adequate for a PW, SW scenario? Would these work well with my current 52 degree wedge?

I have been thinking about getting a 48 degree to replace my PW and a 56 degree to replace the SW. Nothing to really base this off of though, just pure speculation.

I would say keep the PW that came with your set. Maybe buy a used set of irons for a low price on eBay or globalgolf.com or whatever. I just think that your PW will be used mostly on full shots. Therefore, you should keep the PW from your set to have a consistent distance bridge from your 8 to your 9 to your PW. Chances are that your PW is a bit more forgiving that a traditional wedge is anyway. You'll get more distance with a cavity than a blade of the same loft. Plus, you're a 27...you need forgiveness.

As for a SW, I would try and find a matching Callaway X...just like your GW. If you like your 52 that much, give the 56 a try too.

That sounds like a good idea. I'm guessing both those wedges are a blade type wedge like the Callaway you already have? If they were cavities it might make for a wierd transition. But I also agree with Denver about maybe keeping your old PW, if it is a cavity, and going with a matching blade type SW. If you only use your PW for full and 3/4 shots, and not for touch shots, then why not have all the forgiveness you can get?

Most will agree that somewhere between 4 and 6 degrees is a good spacing for the wedge lofts. Even if your ions have a strong loft, you can bend the 48 PW a degree or two strong to catch up to the 9 iron, IF you have to. The odds are, that PW (what ever it is) has enough bounce that removing a degree or two in bounce by strengthening the loft wont hurt the playability. I'd say go for it.

i usually just use my 52 as pitching wedge 56 sand wedge, and 60 lob wedge, who knows eventually i may just get a 48

You could get a 47* or 48* wedge to replace your PW. That would probably give you more spin than your PW and might help you hold the greens better.
Id suggest adding a 56 degree wedge to your bag. That would be better on shorter shots around the green.
Id also find a 60*. I use my 60* the most around the greens because its great for hitting shot little flop shots that go high and land soft.
I dont think Id worry about replacing your PW with a 47* wedge right now. Id suggest buying a 56* and 60* wedge before you worry about replacing your PW.

Thanks for the help, guys. I think I'm gonna go get the 56 deg. & maybe a 60. WIll probably keep the PW that I have.... for now. I always like to get different/newer clubs. Just got a new Ping I-series Piper H putter, and I love that bad boy.

There are a lot of good, cheap wedges on eBay. And Golfsmith usually has a used club section with a bunch of wedges in it -- go through and find a lightly used one; should be able to pick one up for 40-50 bucks max.

Re: swapping out your PW for a 48 degree wedge, I've done it before but ended up switching back to the PW that came with my MP-67s. I generally only use it for full pitches, but it's just as good as anything I could buy as a standalone wedge, especially since my game isn't really based on spin, but on landing pitches where I want them.

I'm not fully understanding. My interpretion of your questions was that the PW and SW were "generic", meaning they weren't the same as your set? I'd sure try and match the wedges, as close in shaft and feel, if not brand, as the one you like, if you can, or maybe just trade the three existing, and get three that are in fit/feel what you like in the same make. Might save some expense down the line, because I would guess the day you buy new irons, buying some wedges that match (whether the same as the irons or not) will be done at the same time, or shortly thereafter. It's only natural.

I may have mis-spoken. My PW & SW are "generic" as are my irons. I have a beginner set of Knight's, and I can't hit the PW or the SW to save my life. I can, however, hit the 52 deg. Callaway X-Tour pretty well. My thoughts are that maybe getting wedges that aren't Knights might help me out, but I'm not sure. I appreciate the input.

      Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.

      That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.

      This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.

      He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
