  1. Sounds like you may be swinging outside to in. Couple of drills I got from my teacher is to take an iron and address a ball with it in the center of your stance like you normally would. Then take the golf ball and move it about 1 ball lengths outside of the club (so move it directly away from you). Now just use half swings and make sure you're extending both arms on the backswing and the follow through (if your right handed you'd be extending the left arm straight on the backwing and right arm on the follow through). This will feel really goofy at first but it'll force you to get the club out there at impact and keep your shoulders down and free. I don't know about you but i had a pretty bad outside to in swing and at impact i'd bunch up my shoulders which would lock my club face open. Another drill I do is to take a tee and put it in front of the ball about 8-10". When you strike the ball make sure your club head travels over the tee through impact. This drill will make you learn to extend your right arm post impact and keep the club on the proper path longer. Give those a shot, hope it works for ya. -huk
  2. 3w - Carry anywhere from 190-240. Don't think i'd ever pick a driver in this situation because many holes require laying up short of a hazard. 7i - I feel pretty versatile with this club, all the way up to about 160 yards if needed. Putter - I'd be lost without it, i'd probably hole 1 outa 10 3 footers with my wedge.
  3. Don't think I ever have in my life. Ernie carries himself so care free on the course, doesn't show a bit of stress. I bet even after losing and dropping 2 in the drink he was still smiling.
  4. I just got a set of cg10 black pearls standard bounce on ebay and all seems exactly like you guys say as far as them being knock offs. The heads are wearing but they hit well so I am not that concerned. They look 100% authentic and the color matches up well but who knows. One thing I noticed on mine was that about 6" up from the hosel (sp?) True Temper has a band of black text around it that is permanently painted on. They also have the true temper sticker about 2-3" below grip.
  5. Your practice swing will be different than your real swing no matter how slight it may be. The fact is when you are doing a practice swing you are loose and not focusing on hitting a static object. When you put a golf ball in front you it changes everything mentally and you're brain will make changes that you won't even know about to make sure you make contact with the ball. The brain is a terrible thing in this instance because it's reaction/instinct and not true concious thought. I ran into this issue learning to play pool and once i overcame my "brain" I was a run out 9 ball player.
  6. what happens when you attempt to hit the golf ball. ball flight/club path? Also one thing that has helped me alot is to get away from the matt and hit every club i can on a turf range. Matts are alot more forgiving that turf is.
  7. Plyometrics, find someone who teaches the principles and applies them towards golf. I made a post about it here http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthr...?t=4992&page;=2 Cheers, huk-
  8. do you take a divot when you take your practice swings?
  9. Some people are born with a better frame and build to be able to swing a club faster than others but really it's not set in stone that if player b isn't built like player a he will not swing the club fast than average ever. It's all about physical condition and proper training. I used to play professional paintball and had a personal trainer that did a football like workout with us that was mainly based on plyometrics. Plyometrics is essentially the study of increasing the actual speed of your muscles contracting and going back to rest and making them faster/stronger than they normally should be. This also applies to making your tendons more elastic like and allowing them to build a TON of power. For example football players do this for their lower body to be able to get to their full stride speed much faster than a normal individual as well as being able to change directions and use impeccable feet work at full speed in an instant. Same thing is applied to basketball players who would like to jump higher and farther and needs the agility. We used it on the paintball field to be faster out of the gate to our bunkers and be very agile on the field at full speed being able to stop on a dime from a full sprint. The same thing can be applied to the golf swing but I wouldn't have a clue how to do it unfortunatley because we never trained to swing a golf club. The training can be somewhat unorthodox in some ways and may seem like it doesn't make much sense sometimes but if you train with someone that focus' on those studies you'll see an improvement in distance and club head speed i guarantee it. A notable person who was aware of the plyometric effects on his body by the training he did was Bruce Lee. He had an INCREDIBLY fast and powerful body for his size and some would say he was the strongest/fastest man ever to live for his size (Chuck Norris quoted this). One thing I would not recommend is doing plyo training without direct supervision of a trainer as you can damage your muscles/tendons very easily if the exercises and training isn't done properly. Cheers, huk-
  10. I have been getting alot of comments about my trailing leg straightening out during my backswing and they have been telling me it's a BIG no no. I never understood how big of a no no this is until I thought about it and it makes alot of sense not to mention the fact I am probably losing alot of torque I could build at the top and maybe help stop me from going past parallel at the top (I have a chronic problem with this and short of braking my backswing I cannot stop it). I tried the stack n tilt for a while and this is one of the traits that I never realized was important to remove from my swing and now i'm paying for it! I am already working on eliminating this from my swing and keeping my right leg flex and bent with the weight on the inside of the foot during the backswing. Thanks so much for the insight I hope to hear alot more and hopefully shoot 85 by mid next year (Most of my strokes come from my putting haha). It may be a longshot to see that much improvement by next year but i'm determined and I spend every minute I get thinking/swinging a golf club and going to the gym to improve my body for it. We'll see what happens and I'll be posting periodic updates and videos to gauge my progress/improvement. As for getting a swing coach; I really am not sure who to go to around here for a proper lesson from someone who seems like they care about their student. I unfortunately have only had indirect experience with one teacher/pro around here who I won't name and was not impressed at all and even appauled by how he spent the students money towards the time he was spending with them. Half of it wasn't even golf related and most of the time I just seen him sitting back and watching them hit balls with no input at all. He is probably a good teacher and I may have caught him at a time where he was aware of his methods but with that said, I wasn't impressed at all. Thanks for the input so far guys, I hope to hear more! huk-
  11. Well I am a pretty high handicapper, mid to high 90's and just started back playing in June. I have been lurking around these forums for a bit and wondered if you guys would help me out with my swing and maybe some tips to help with my consistency. My club flight is out to in for sure and my divots tell the story and I can't really figure out how to fix it without making my self fell awkward with my swing. My ball flight most of the time is a slice or a weak push, I seem to have an issue hitting the ball fat alot and hardly make a proper divot in front of the ball. I tried the stack n tilt for a while and decided that I would stick with a traditional swing and attempt to go between a 2 plane and a 1 plane, currently I have been studying Hogans teachings and have been attempting to stay on plane. Do you guys have any advice for me? Here is a couple of vids of my stroke, excuse the landscape please! http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...t=0c6d93e0.pbr http://s29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...t=MVI_0972.flv Thanks for the help/suggestions, huK-
  12. Considering the timeframe I believe Tiger will surpass Jack in wins major and tour for sure and become a more "accomplished" player but with that said Jack played some of the most nail biting rounds of golf against the guys who are just as legendary as he is and still stayed on top for so long. It's impossible to really say but Tiger has this competetive drive that is overwhelming, he is physically and mentally driven more than any other competetor out there. Personally I pick tiger because of how he has been a dominating force his entire life it seems even playing the juniors.
  13. I play mostly at www.scenichills.com . Very nice course but I do wish they had a couple of extra par 3's.
  14. I am a Technical Rep for a Internet Service Provider.
