  1. Absolutely. I thank you for informing us of Moe Norman. What an outstanding golfer that is widely unknown.
  2. This is what I've been saying....this topic doesn't lend itself well to a top ten list. You have 2 or 3 in an elite grouping and then 10 or 20 that you could debate belonging in the next grouping. If your tastes run to ball striking ability, maybe you like Norman. If you like clutch play you might lean toward Palmer. If majors are important to you, Player would make the list. If total tourny wins makes sense, you'd go for Snead. The most heavily favored criterion that you select, is what makes the order in the list subjective.
  3. The OWG rankings are maybe the most objective measurement ever. I can accept that there's no perfect formula and that they don't always get it right, but to call them meaningless, doesn't make sense either. If you're saying Phil retained a top 3 ranking for 5 straight years, as an example, I would accept that as supporting your point.
  4. I'm not married to top tens. I'll take Tiger and Jack as 1 and 1a and then 15 guys tied for 3 including the rest of the most mentioned guys mentioned in this forum.
  5. I gotta believe the final 9 holes of a tourny are the toughest considering the way the course is set up on day 4 and the added pressure.
  6. I'll take the Fedex Cup. You have to put together an entire season to qualify for it and that would be more satisfying than jumping up for one major, snagging it, and disappearing.
  7. Watson's refusal is meaningless. The association that supported his means of earning a handsome living, deserved greater consideration than to decide the issue over one or two incidents. The PGA will simply wait until Watson is no longer with us to put him in their HOF so as to avoid further awkwardness.
  8. I’m not a huge fan of either Woods or Mickelson, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with whether they should captain a team. And I don’t agree with Chamblee’s criteria for deciding who should be captain. Whatever these guys did as less mature, younger golfers has passed. I say that if these guys can get younger players to care about the team and play motivated, they qualify. And I have no reason to believe they can’t do that. Phil said and did a number of things at this event which indicated he can unify and motivate players. I’m willing to give Woods that same opportunity. If a smidgen of that Woods magic can rub off on some younger players, we’re fairly unbeatable.
  9. Thanks for the kind welcome, Turtleback. I'm aware of the world ranking system. I'd be happy with knowing commitments over only the coming month. There doesn't seem to be an effort to inform fans of upcoming appearances. You'd think that the promotion of golf tours as a product would be something the commissioners of the tours would be working on rather than putting the burden of promotion on the individual tournament sponsors. Perhaps they fear that appearances at tournaments could become too competitive and lead to appearance fees. Ncarlsongolf: Totally agree. The future success of these team events will partially hinge on the fans' perception that they are watching the best and that there's an easy way to choose a side to root for. If you allow golfers living in the US to play for their country of origin, as long as they're highly ranked, fans will accept the rationale, just as they do at the World Cup in soccer.
  10. Wouldn't it be nice if we could find on the net a place where the top 20 ranked golfers in the world are listed, maybe in a grid, along with the next 10 world class tournaments and their known intention to participate?
