  1. Yeah, I just hit off the grass a week ago. The guy said Monday/Wednesday.
  2. Carnation actually has a really nice grass range. The course is a goat field, but I used to unwind after work on their grass range 3 or 4 times a week before I had kids. They also have a practice bunker and chipping green (that you can throw a 30 yard shot to) on the far side of the range that is almost never in use. Btw, Willows has mats, but they open the grass on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  3. I read the first sentence and skipped the rest because the answer is pretty simple. Are you capable of having fun when you play? After the round are you happy you played (even when you stink up the joint)? If you don't like playing golf, you should quit. If you have fun, even when you play terrible, keep playing. Personally, even when I shoot a terrible score, I'm having a way better time than if I had decided to do something else. Edit: Ok, ok, I went back and read the whole thing. One of my regular playing partners has been playing for over 7 years and is still a 30+ handicap. He loves playing, gets pissed off a lot, and has a great time. He would pass up a lot in life if he quit, even though he sucks. As far as other golfers looking at you goes, we really don't care if you suck. Just suck fast. After all, you may think you're the worst golfer out there, but I can absolutely guarantee you're not.
  4. I agree, why post your swing if you don't want swing advice? The swing tips (eg. iammpspeer's) are very valid, and valuable to most golfers. If you're a beginner I'll give you a tip (not a swing tip), the type of club you use means very little. A good golfer will shoot within a few strokes or just as good with a set of clubs at slightly lesser quality. It's the wrong place to focus your attention if you ask me. You have a great swing for a beginner, but you're not doing yourself a disservice by listening to tips here and there from people that know what they're talking about.
  5. Yeah I agree with you. The guys I play with have all been close friends for 15+ years so we know how to push buttons and when to hold back. We all know that we're just making it worse for ourselves when we act like 2 year olds out there. If someone started making it uncomfortable for the other people they'd pretty much get kicked out of the group, but that hasn't happened in a long time.
  6. Lol'd the twin shots in the second vid that come trickling into view on the ground (the person to your left). Anyway, you're right on top of the ball, as in standing REALLY close to it. Are you hooking it? A lot of times the "OMG my swing has all of a sudden gone to hell in a handbasket" type queries are due to ball placement in your stance. I highly recommend you keep your swing exactly the same and try scooting away from the ball by 1-2 inches. Experiment if that doesn't work (put ball forward, back in stance), I'm pretty sure you'll get results by doing this.
  7. Shorten your backswing to 3/4 and stay aggressive on the ball. It depends on how much you want to take off, but just adjust accordingly.
  8. You know I'm not so sure about that. One of my buddies has some pretty epic meltdowns, of course it comes at the price of seeing the rest of us in tears of laughter. He once had to call "fore" for a THROWN CLUB, because it stuck in his hands and went straight left of his intended target. He also threw a wedge off a canyon cliff once, it must have sailed 100 yards. We all had swollen faces from laughing so hard. That's pretty much the unwritten rule in our group, you have a meltdown, you get laughed at and embarrassed even more.
  9. Unfortunately it's all mats all the time now. Gold creek is a couple miles down the road, they have big topped off buckets for $6 and it's grass. Well, if you want to call it grass...picture a big cow field. The good thing is if you can hit off that grass, you can hit off almost any grass. Carnation is out a ways but they had a really nice grass range last I knew. When I lived in sammamish I'd go out there 4 or 5 times a week.
  10. Yeah, I can't even tell you how long I've tried to get rid of that hitch. I just do it naturally, probably another baseball thing. I'll hit a bucket with the camera on and swear I'm not doing it, then watch the vid and there it is every swing. I don't feel it either, it's crazy.
  11. It's all about control. Angry man at the range is probably used to having control of all aspects of life, but when the ball gives him a middle finger he freaks out like a 6 year old that had his Nintendo taken away. To me it's hilarious because you can just look at them and smile and it makes them even more mad. No control having control freaks are pure entertainment to me. Btw, I might win the award for ugliest golf clubs. I have Cleveland gunmetal TA3's from at least 10 years ago with lead tape all over them. Also have a Titleist 983k driver from probably 5-6 years ago with a Bandon Dunes puffin headcover. The only "fancy" club I have is a Callaway X-tour 3 wood but even that is 3 years old or so.
  12. Thanks Erik and Briars, you're both right. The overactive right hand on the downswing and the left foot hyper-activity probably both come from my baseball years. I'm having a difficult time shaking all of the baseball elements of the swing, I used to come WAY across the line with a flying right elbow too. Will definitely keep these in mind next time out!
  13. On my misses, yes, it's usually a block. I agree, I kind of sway a little towards the left foot a bit early, thanks for confirming that suspicion!
  14. Hello everyone, long story short, I used to be a 3, had 2 kids, and am now a 6 or 7 (not even sure). I've been making some improvements but still not where I need to be. Some fresh eyes would be great. Thanks, Trevor
  15. I bought an Adams Redline 4 wood once and had the same result. Gave it to my father in law and he gave it back because of the same thing. It is now stuffed head-first into a stump in my back yard with the butt end hanging a hummingbird feeder (the wire goes perfectly into the little hole at the end of the grip). The hummingbirds love that thing.
