I completely underestimated Skycaddie. I figured they wouldn't have much for courses in my area since it's not what you would call a golf mecca, but it turns out that they have every course I would ever think to play, even the below average airport course down the street.

I'm a bit confused on some of the membership specs, though. You download the map to your computer, plug in the skycaddie and download it to the device. Simple. But what's this stuff I'm reading about Playlists, online Skyvaults and buying additional playlists? How does that differ from the number of courses stored on the device? Then there's the same situation with user-recorded courses.

If I'm only limited to downloading a couple before I have to spend MORE money on top of the initial purchase price and membership price I don't see how it's worth it at all. It would make more sense to allow unlimited downloads for your membership package as they're already finished and uploaded. I don't know what other costs they would have to cover by charging for additional courses except that little greed tax.

I may be wrong in my assumptions, so can someone please set me straight?

More than that - if you stop paying your 'subscription' you lose your courses!

With iGolf, you pay an initial subscription fee (pretty inexpensive) on top of the device cost, and the maps you download are yours to keep.

TourEdge Exotics 2,3,4 hybrid irons
Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW

You get all the courses in your state, or you can buy the entire country for I think 10 bucks more. The fee is for an intire year less then the cost of a dozen good balls so its not a big deal. the playlists are just ment to make it easier to manage the courses that you play often. I have one playlist set up with all the municipal courses that I play in the area and another one with all the private courses I play in the area. so if I am going to go to a private course I just conect and put that playlist in. Playlist are more of a convinance thing that is all. If I am going to a new course I just move it onto a playlist and load it up. Dont worry the skycaddie only holds 10 courses at a time but depending on what membership you pick you have access to all the courses in your state or in the country.

So once you fill it up, can you delete maps and reload different ones or are you stuck with what you have?

You can delete and add at will with the membership. If you dont have the membership you will not be able to re add unless you map it yourself.

Only holds 10 courses at a time but you simply delete some and add others at will, depending ont he membership. Considering the info they have for each of the Sky Courses it is well worth the price. IMHO I have the SG5 and love it! I bought the nationwide membership and can access all courses in the US download 10, look at them, erase them and download 10 more if I want. I know some say the membership fee is bad but for what they do and the measurements they give you, I think it is a bargain! yardages to each trap and the carry distances, same for water etc., I am like many other and find that the ability to measure each shot and get all my clubs dialed in to a specific distance is wonderful!

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
