Does this sound right...
I was at Golfsmith today and had a fitting and am slightly confused.
Right now I play I5 pings with the standard ping stiff shaft. I hit about a 155 7 iron. I hit the driver about a real 240-270.
My swing speed with the 6 iron is about 80 and the driver is upper 90's to 102or so.

I was fitted with the Callaway X forged to a 5.0 project X shaft.
I have done some research and found that approx 5.8 or so is equal to the DG S300.

I am not a hard swinger, but isn't the 5.0 a regular?

Thanks

The 5.0 is a regular. How long was your fitting? How many different shafts did you hit? How did the flex and weight of the shaft feel? I ask because the recommendation could have been made based upon shot pattern, spin rate and launch angle.

You might have gotten lucky and had one of their caddies look at all aspects. Did you receive a print out with the details of all your shots?

Remember, too, that not all shafts play the same regardless of being the same flex.

You are corrct.
It was all the aspects including ball flight and launch angle.
There were two people working with me and it was about a twenty minute deal.
I tried the 5.0, 5.5,and 6.0 Riffle shafts and the conclusion was the 5.0. They told me my pattern and angles were consistent enough to go with the 5.0 and it was the best launch angle. They said I should use the weakest shaft I can while holding a good pattern.

Taking some 5.0's out this afternoon to try them out?

5.0 is a regular shaft, but if it makes your game better, what does it matter, even if it were to say LADIES on it? A lot of tour pros play stiff shafts, not extra stiff. There is nothing wrong with playing a regular shaft at all.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
