So I saw this pretty sweet deal with the ESPN Golf School Today.
$525 Gets you a full day of training with the pros. Normally this wouldn't be worth it to me, but you also get a $450 Callaway Gift certificate! That is conjunction with a new credit card I have that will give me $50 Back for my first transaction and you are getting all that schoolin for $25! I was just checking to see if anyone here had ever gone to this training group before. They have training for beginners all the way up to fine tuning the game.

My wife and I are signed up for the one in Virginia in a couple of weeks. She just spent her gift certificate on a lady's Big Bertha driver, new putter and chipping net.

I haven't spent mine yet, but I'm looking at a new wood and some other goodies.

My co-worker suggested the school to me and we're looking forward to it. He said it was really good.

Took the course last Friday. We had a great time! By the end, my wife was hitting her driver to the 200 yd marker! Our pitching, chipping and putting are all better (we were both chippers, but never did the 'bump and run' shots. Not well, at least. This has added versatility to our short game that we didn't have previously.

My drives were much better too. The range was off of grass, which was a HUGE bonus! My typical drive was around 200-220 before, and is 20-30 farther now. It wasn't uncommon for a drive to get past the 250 marker.

On top of it, we both got $450 gift cards to Callaway to the whole thing cost us like $75 apiece. We were both very happy.

Biggest tip to take away? Carry a notebook, make notes of you good hits, bad hits, things to work on, etc. I now review mine before every practice and write new stuff into it after every practice. I can write things that worked, didn't work, etc.

Very good stuff.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
