I knwo the grooves can be redon e some, but wondering for fun if a clubmaker could regroove them (of course not for legal play) to really have big or different grooves for easier spin?

Im sure you could get them re-grooved with a deeper groove but just from my experience with the spin milled vokey I have, it seems to me that I have a tendency to notice cuts on my balls after a loop. So you really may want to ask your self if deeper grooves are really worth it!!

MY thinking...As I certainly can't backspin the ball now, but occasionally check it, but need to learn to backspin as my changed (and better!) new swing...I am hitting past the pin and would benefit from the backspin usually.
So, if a club could illegally be made to spin the heck out of the ball lots more, I am thinking it would help me literally see the affect of my practice rounds trying to achieve spin. Make sense?

To me, its not the grooves that are making the cuts on the Vokey as much as the rough face. That is just my take on it anyway.

Mmmm, no. It's the grooves, and it's not really a matter of opinion.

Well, that settles it then.

joshtpa, you are just going to have to drop that opinion.

lol, I actually laughed quite a lot to that.

No, common sense settles it. Testing settles it. Having played well for years and having hit lots of wedges settles it. Talking to Bob Vokey settles it.

You know, some things are fact, and some are opinion. You're all free to have different opinions, but I'm not really interested - and never have been - in "discussing" fact. You're either right or wrong. Joshtpa is wrong here. I'm not going to tip-toe around comments that are wrong. I greatly prefer to set the record straight so that future readers of this or any other thread get the right information. If this topic can get back on topic, great. Any further posts about what I've just discussed will be removed.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
