The pro I have taken lessons from also makes clubs. I can definitely see the advantages to having a club custom made and fitted to one's size and swing but I am very hesitant about getting anything that is not a name brand.

So what should I look for and what should I ask him when I find out what type/brand of club head he uses (I am pretty sure the shafts and grips will be recognizable name brands)? Or is this something you all would not even consider?

I have no experience with "custom clubs" but know that any major manufacturer offers custom fit clubs: shaft length, shaft flex, loft, and lie. Just about anything that can be customized to an individual player is by all OEMs. Keep that in mind as you search.

Custom made clubs are great and everyone should get properly fitted. As far as which one's, I would personally just order them OEM fit to you. I played component clubs for a couple of seasons and there are some good one's out there but they will cost you almost the same as OEM and when it comes time to trade for a new set then at least the OEM's have some value.
