Greetings from Chicagoland,

My name is Nick, and I've been playing golf poorly for close to 30 years now. I haven't been playing much the last couple of years, and the combination of that, aging (I'm 42), and general physical ineptness has messed up my game. I realized last year that golf had stopped being fun because I had hit a downward spiral:don't play enough, shoot a 107 on a course where I'd usually shoot 98, get depressed about my game, don't play for three weeks, shoot a 108.

I'm committed this year to reinvesting in golf and seeing if I can get my handicap back down to the 24-25 level it was when I was telecommuting for work and able to play 35-40 rounds each summer by sneaking out at 4pm. While I love playing the high end courses, and am fortunate enough to be able to afford an occasional splurge, my passion is affordable golf. Living in a big Northern city, that's tough. But I've started a blog to push that mantra as a challenge to myself.

A few more random characteristics:
- I detest slow play. My game goes into the trash if the round takes more than 4:45;
- I travel 70-80 days/year for work, so I don't think twice about going away for the weekend and playing a few rounds in another city;
- I love to play at 6am. I feel I play better for some reason;
- My favorite club is my 4-iron, even though I can only hit it about 160 yards; and
- I drink Red Gatorade

Hey Nick... welcome to this little corner of the internet. Sounds to me like you get to play a lot of golf when you want to. Thats great. I play about 80% of my golf at a little goat track in Yelm, Washington and like you splurge on better courses a few times a year.

At any rate... look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome aboard.

I know here in central ohio I can play courses all year long for under 40 bucks. Some are decent and some arent but the price is right for sure. We usually get out about every other weekend or so and play nicer courses around ohio. We usually try to keep in within a few hours drive but we always have a good time. If you're ever in central ohio and looking to play let me know. I'm always up for golf.

    • Yep, I know. 😉
    • I don't know what you mean by "middle of the fairway." No, the relief area goes 2 club lengths into the fairway (and extends away from there). Also, I don't know why "obviously" is in quotes. I didn't use that word, nor is it relevant here. If your ball is lost or known to be OB, you can use the MLR if it's in place.
    • I don't use anything except occasionally an alignment stick or a yardstick. 😄
    • Day 7: 4/27 Session 9/24 of Full Speed Spectrum Training. Tied for my second highest speed of this program. Good session but I feel like I am leaving a little in the tank!
    • So even if a ball is obviously OOB? What constitutes "obviously". Let's say the person hitting says "I think that stayed in". The other three disagree and say it was obvious it did not. He cannot be forced to take a provisional can he? So this rule essentially offers the person hitting the ability to not have to risk going OOB again and hitting 4 from the middle of the fairway where the ball went OOB. Or am I reading the rules incorrectly?
