My grandparent got one in their backyard and it is great and was relativly easy to install if you hav the time.

I just bought a new house and am looking for a easy relatively cheap way to practice putting in the back yard. My idea was build a sandbox for the kids with 2x6 then make an mdf reinforced cover for it. Carpet it with a decent turf and cut holes. Whatta ya think?

Any other ideas or projects you have tried/completed?

If I hadn't already finished my basement, I'd seriously consider it. Unfortunately my yards is not big enough to accompany one. Our golf show had a couple vendors for them. I know Dave Pelz has one he endorses.
