Just started experimenting with iron shafts. If I were to buy a set of pulled iron shafts, could I put the pulled 3 iron shaft in my 4 or 5 iron to achieve the extra length I need. Then I would just have to reshaft new my 3 and possibly 4iron to get +1" in length. By doing this to try and save a few $$, would I be comprimising performance?

I would appreciate any feedback.

Yes, IIRC this process is called soft-stepping, and it gives you different flexes (I think), when you do this. You could also take a 7 irons shaft and put it in a 6 iron, and this is called hard-stepping.

Here's what I play:

As the previous poster said, that is soft stepping. For each "step" figure approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of a flex. So if you soft step it will make the shaft a little more flexable and conversely with hard stepping. I've noticed that I can "feel" the difference with one step, but little difference between the 1 and 2 step. This is not a good way to lenthen your clubs. You can get shaft extenders, but thats alot of work. I'd just keep look'n for some +1" pulled shafts. Try the swap shop at 4gea. Good luck. Watch out b/c tweaking your clubs can become very addictive, I know I have personal experience with that.
