I am thinking about upgrading irons for my birthday (I turn 21 on October 22nd). I will first start by saying that I play tommy armour 845's and love them except I feel like I have out grown them and the are starting to get pretty beat up. In all honesty I could probably get them reshafted and game them for another 3 or 4 years, but for the price of getting them reshafted I can almost get a whole new set of irons from rockbottom. I have been looking at the adams idea a2 and other game improvement irons and was wondering if it would be smart for me to get theses irons because I want to use them for the next couple of years during which time I will hopefully improve(get to single digits preferably. Im also interested in buying a hybrid iron set, and have read reviews and view adams as haveing the best hybrid iron sets available. so basically, do you think the idea a2's are quality clubs and do you think that game improvement clubs would hinder me in any way on improving my game. I would also add that im not entirely focused on working the ball, high soft landing. straight iron shots are fine to me.

In my freestyle:
Driver: 10.5* G5 with UST V2
F.W. wood: 16* retro raylor with Aldila HM-40 Tour Gold
Irons: i5 3-pw. Stiff cs lite shafts
Wedges: 8620 51*, 56*, and 60* Putter: classics 1 34""Life is tough. It's tougher if you're stupid." -John Wayne

The Adams A2 irons are excellent. I also dont believe they will hinder your ability to get better. People always say that, yet so many of the tour pros are playing cavity backs now. Yes they are not going to work as much as blades, but in the end, it is all about getting better. I have played with both, and switched back to cavity backs and got my index down even more. Hit the Adams clubs and if they feel right for you, you wont be looking back. The clubs are very good.

thanks for the response! unfortunately there is no where around here where I can demo the clubs, but they seem to be perfect as my ball striking is not the greatest. Im just on an extreme budget so for me to spend this kind of money I want to be sure I wont regret it.

You should check out the new Taylormade Burner Plus irons. You can integrate hybrids into the set. I just picked up a set with the 3 and 4 hydrids (which are the brand new burner rescues) and 5-PW. I hit everything in the game improvement category at the Carlsbad Golf Center, during a club fitting, and these went 5-10 yards further than anything else I hit. The hybrids are incredible.

Good Luck

In My Grom:
Driver: Taylormade R1 10.5°
Fairway: Taylormade RocketBallz Stage 2 Tour 14.5°
Hybrids: Ping G25 3, 4
Irons: Mizuno 5-PW JPX 800 Pro

Wedges: CG-14 50°, 56°, 60°

Putter: Nike Method 003

IIRC those Taylor mades are almost twice the cost of the Adams A2.

You are probably correct. My set was $749, with graphite shafts on the two hybrids. $699 if you go all steel.
