Well, some of you read where I was happy with my purchase of my G5 irons and how I promptly hated them after a go at the range.

This time there was a better swing and plenty of daylight.

I had no problem hitting the 5 iron 175ish-190 yards, most around 180ish, having been up for zillions of hours already. ALL of the shots were draws..no fades..a couple went rightish but always drew back.

I called my scratch golferish grandpa, but he said it was a good thing and a sign that I was swinging properly. I'm not sure since a draw isn't something you wanna hit to the green since it usually releases and isn't as controlled as a fade.

I also hit the i10, and wouldn't pay more for it over my set, they're 15 yards longer as I was almost hitting the 7 iron 180, but it still draws. If I'm not impressed with the G5s on the course, I'll consider the i10 over several demo sessions since there are plenty at the range to choose from, but I'm still thinking about the Callaway X-Forged or a Mizuno MP since I'm sure the draw will be less exacerbated due to the lesser offset.

I will say even on the toe these lost little distance or direction, but felt a bit better on the sweet spot and noticably sounded better. I'd almost rather it be less forgiving and to make me swing better.

What say you?

There is nothing wrong with hitting a draw, and the amount of spin has to do mostly with your ball striking, and a fade is not necessarily more or less controllable, this comes down to how much you practice. But I used to hit the i10's and they are very solid sticks, I just need something less forgiving. I know, that's not what most people want, but I'm trying to improve my ball striking, and less forgiving will make me focus more on that.

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

that's mostly where i'm at. i need to practice more and play, but in the near future i'll be looking for a more player type of iron, like the callaway x forged and mizuno mp-xx. clubs need to be more focused on reward for proper ballstriking than ballstriking at all

Yeah since I've picked up my Mizunos, I've become a much better ballstriker. My swing has becomed more controlled and focused on impact. Also, it has carried over to swinging more controlled with my driver helping me out a real lot.

That's how it was when I got my Apex Plus in 2002ish. They wouldn't take a toe hit and keep the ball where it was intended to go, so I had to better my swing overnight, I feel it's what helped me to make it to the 70s. I'll use the G5 for now but I think some X forged are in my near future.

I really think it takes a little time to get used to a new set of clubs. Certainly more than a week.

Also, it seems that many people tend to misalign an offset club at address - check that you are not setting up a little closed, that can add to your hook problem.
