Played 18 today. Shot a 90. Terrible on the front, but as the title says, I had a 41 on the back. Pretty good for me. Strengthening my grip has really helped me eliminate my slice. My score is showing it.

My shot of the day was on a par 5. I stuck a 5 wood about 10 inches from the flag on the second shot. Around 240 yards. What a great feeling.

Anyhow, just getting back into the game here in the last few weeks has been a great thing for me.
Thanks again to those that have helped with my questions. My goal is to start breakin 80. I have only done this one time, a few years back. As I remember, it was pretty easy to get to mid 80's from the 90's.

Any tips on what I need to focus on to get to the next level of braekin 80?

Cole

I played the other day and shot a 39 on my courses back and the things i def need to work on that could have resulted in lower scores,

for me this is what i need to fix these might be close to what you need too

1. I need a wood, i dont have any woods i had a monster drive on par 5 and used a 4 iron to land it just short of the green in the rough, if i had a wood i think i could have got it on the green,

which is were 2. comes in, when im short and chip it up, im still learning the proper swing speeds to distances the ball needs to go, i either hit it to short or too hard, that happend a few times,

id chip it up it went to far, chip it up to short, which leaves me with longer putts than i can easily sink, if i could just chip it up to leave a decent putt my putting average would increase as well

and then of course just overall putting in general, im working on gettiing a nice putter so i dont go teaching myself something with my crappy putter that is all gonna change when i get something nice

with all these things i need to work on from that round i could have saved close to 6 or 7 strokes off the back 9 by improving my chipping about 3 holes i chipped 2 times cause it went to far and rolled off the other side so id have to chip it again when i should have just been putting, and there were a couple holes where i had a like 3 foot putt should be sinkable but i missed =[ so yea i could have saved 6 or 7 if not MORE strokes from the back 9

these are what i need to work on they might be somewhat similar

First thing is figuring out where you're losing shots? Are you hitting a lot of greens in regulation? Are you three putting a lot?

The general advice is to work on short game as even if your long game isn't spectacular, you can drop a lot of strokes by having a solid short game. It really just depends on where you're losing your shots.

i agree with deron. as long as you keep the ball in play and have a good short game and rarely 3 putt then that will benefit you more than some extra yards in distance. when you get to the point where u play 9 holes and putt 13-15 times then you should see some low scores

I am also about a 13 (my HCI trend is a 12.6 but it hasn't updated yet) and I broke 80 for the first time this weekend. I actually shot 34 (-2) on the front with three birdies and one bogey.

It isn't about breaking 80 once although that 34 was really nice. It is about finding a consistent game. For me it is getting off of the tee. I hit less then 15% of fairways and many of them are terrible shots. I am confident in my irons (my par 3 stats are great) and short game. I would invest in a nice stat software such as scorecard or a even the one offered through golf.com to see where you are losing strokes.

When I left my last job two years ago they gave me a TaylorMade rescue wood as a going away gift. Best present ever as I have a consistent club from 210-220 that I feel like I can hit into a green or use on a long par three. I agree you need a wood or a long rescue wood you can count on.

    • They're not, though. Visual tricks is why so many people aim right. Hold your two arms out with your thumbs up. Put the right thumb at the target. Look at how far left your left thumb feels like it's aiming, yet… it's perpendicular to the target line. Your eyes are between your feet and the ball just like they're between your two thumbs.
    • Thanks Matt! Also, does this list have a lot of diversity of layout and scenery? I'd like to see as much as possible of what the RTJ trail has to offer
    • Swing check. Cons: The countertop drill hasn't taken yet. Not crazy about A5 to A6 hand path. Pros: Decent BS width at A2 and right elbow at A4. All in all, not terrible but meh..
    • Day 74 (14 Jul 25) - Late afternoon session w/9i, magnetic alignment stick, Divot board and hard foam balls.  Worked on getting the face square at setup and then returning to same through the swing.  The lines on the Divot Board served as referenced parallels for the alignment stick.  Did hit a few balls about 30 total - half with using the alighment stick on the club face and half without.  First time working with the magnetic alignment rod - really reveals when you have the face closed/open/etc.
