i'm still pretty new, only been playing for about 5 months, and i catch myself looking back a lot too see if anyone is on our tails. i guess i just want to be considerate, but i think i put added pressure on myself to play faster that i probably shouldn't be worried about because i even do it when there's no where to go in front of us. we usually keep good pace with the groups in front, and usually finish between 4-4.5hrs. our usual foursome includes a 10, a 20, and two 30's so it's not like our whole group is hackin it up. i think i just need to block it out mentally that there is no one behind us because this has prevented me from getting a consistent pre-shot routine. i think it would help with those handful of mis-hits every round which would of course drop a few strokes

Thanks for the post, you're someone I can relate to. I feel the exact same way.

I hate to come into to this thread and gang up on old guys, but it's true! Hell, I'm 31 years old and I feel like I still get treated like a child by some of these guys.

Constantly looking over your shoulder will definitely affect your game and probably slow you down. If you do peek behind you, do it between holes, as you're walking to the next tee box. If you are keeping up with the group in front of you, then you are doing your job and have nothing to worry about.

Some of you guys are just too self-conscious. Focus on the stroke at hand, keep up with the group in front of you, and just ignore those behind you.

The only time I ever look behind me is when I'm just standing around waiting to take my shot. Otherwise I just don't even look back.

Well, I am new to this forum today, and very excited that I found a forum that is actually active. VERY sweet indeed.

As for grandaddy510's comment, I feel the same way. I have been golfing for about 6-7 years now (I am 37) and I still consider myself a beginner. Whenever we are out golfing, I too seem to worry too much about the group behind me. I know for a fact it makes me rush, gets me frustrated and ruins my game. I know I can let them through, but most of the time it's the people in front of us.

At that point, I should be telling myself not to worry about it because it's not my fault. But for some reason, I can't get my mind to work that way.

I remember when I was first starting out, and my group was told to "hurry our pace" by the ranger. Now we can play at a normal, consistent quick pace. Yet, I still have that worry in the back of my mind
