1. 9-iron, generally.

2. Augusta, no question. 3. Long putt for par. Means I at least got on in 3. 4. Firm putter, softer-ish ball. 5. Club distances being equal... hybrid for a shorter shot (>=19* loft), wood for a longer one (<19* loft). 6. Play professionally. You can always fall back. Can't always move up. 7. 3 hour, unmarred round. Pfft... People... 8. Walk. Hands down. Well, not really hands down. That would be hard. 9. Heat. There's a reason I moved south...

1. 5 iron from the fairway - I prefer control to distance
2. 10 rounds at a muni - the munis here in dallas are ridiculously good
3. 30 footer - if Im chipping for par, then I didnt follow #1
4. Firm putter, soft ball - there's the control thing again
5. Wood - I can't control the hybrid yet, it's new
6. Pro - if I have it my way, that still may happen
7. 8. Ride - helps with 9. Heat - although Ive played some great rounds in 38* weather wearing shorts

[QUOTE=denver_nuggs_15;245326] 1. Hit from the middle of the fairway with a 5-iron, or from the rough with a 9-iron? 9 iron, if the rough wasn't tangly burmuda or a buried lie. Fairway if the lie is bad in the rough. Bad lie in the rough, if the ball is in a terrible divot in the fairway.

2. Play one round at a top-rated course (Augusta, etc.) or 10 rounds at a muni? If they were free, Augusta. If I had to pay, the muni

3. Drain a 30 footer for par, or hole-out for par? (Just wondering what gets you more pumped.) Hole out from 80+yards. If less than 80 yards, 30 footer. 80 yards is my current record for hole out.
4. Use a firm putter with a soft ball, or a soft putter with a firm ball? Soft ball every time.

5. Hit a hybrid or wood off the deck? Used to say hybrid. But, I just bought a used Sonartec S001 15 degree. I am in love.

6. Play professional golf and struggle to make cuts (and money) or do what you do now and earn a steady salary? Both, but if you struggle and make every cut in every tournament, but finish last, you will still be a multi-millionairre playing golf. (if you make every cut, you will get an endorsement)

7. Play a round in under 3 hours by yourself, or play a 4 hour round with 3 other people? Under 3 hours.

8. Walk or ride? Walk, unless the course is ridiculous to walk (400 yards between green and next tee, etc.

9. Play in the cold (<40*) or in the heat (>85*)? I'd define heat at 100 plus in Texas. I'd still say heat.

Additional questions.

Play with your father/brother or Gary Player/Nicklaus/insert your favorite pro?

Play at a good course with miserable, rude staff or an average course that treats you like royalty?

Score well or Play well (great ball striking, with lots of lip outs/barely misreads?

Hit from the middle of the fairway with a 5-iron, or from the rough with a 9-iron? 9irong from the rough....right now our rough is dormant and a breeze to play from.....now in a few months I may very well change that as our rough is a nasty affair.
2. Play one round at a top-rated course (Augusta, etc.) or 10 rounds at a muni? Without a doubt, play a round at Augusta National GC. Next is Pebble Beach and after that I'm open for muni play.
3. Drain a 30 footer for par, or hole-out for par? (Just wondering what gets you more pumped.) Holing out for a boring, routine par....doing dramatic things to make par simply reinforces the fact that I'm scrambling.
4. Use a firm putter with a soft ball, or a soft putter with a firm ball? Firm putter, softer ball....I detest inserted feel on putters.
5. Hit a hybrid or wood off the deck? wood....I'm not a fan of hybrids...at least on yet.
6. Play professional golf and struggle to make cuts (and money) or do what you do now and earn a steady salary? Tough call....especially in this economy.
7. Play a round in under 3 hours by yourself, or play a 4 hour round with 3 other people? 4 other round with company is always prefered.
8. Walk or ride? Lately my right foot and left knee have kept me riding.
9. Play in the cold (85*)? Either extreme sucks.....at least with the heat there are no frost delays and the beverage cart girls wear less and less.

Id rathar hit from the middle of the fairway with a 5-iron. Unless its a shot little wedge shot, Id always rathar hit from the fairway.

2. Play one round at a top-rated course (Augusta, etc.) or 10 rounds at a muni?

It depends upon the top-rated course. I personally couldnt care less about playing at Augusta due to their policy with women golfers, but Id much rathar play 1 round at the old course at St. Andrews than to play 10 rounds at a local muni.

3. Drain a 30 footer for par, or hole-out for par? (Just wondering what gets you more pumped.)

Hold-out for par.

4. Use a firm putter with a soft ball, or a soft putter with a firm ball?

Firm putter, soft ball. That way, you get feedback and you know why you miss a putt. With a soft putter, the mishits feel the same as the solid hits.

5. Hit a hybrid or wood off the deck?

Hybrid. Right now I suck with my woods.

6. Play professional golf and struggle to make cuts (and money) or do what you do now and earn a steady salary?

Do what I do now and earn a steady salary. I dont like the thought of not know when my next meal is going to be.

7. Play a round in under 3 hours by yourself, or play a 4 hour round with 3 other people?

It depends upon the people.

Walk.
8. Walk or ride?

9. Play in the cold (<40*) or in the heat (>85*)?

Cold. I dont really consider 40* to be cold though. Where Im from, thats considered to be mild weather.

Additional questions.

Father/brother. If I played with a pro, I think I would be so nervous that I would play well, would know what to say and probably wouldnt have any fun.

Play at a good course with miserable, rude staff or an average course that treats you like royalty?

Play at an average course that treats you like royalty.

Score well or Play well (great ball striking, with lots of lip outs/barely misreads?

Score well. All the great ball striking in the world doesnt mean a thing if you cant sink your putts.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
