Of the people that have hit these and GI irons, how forgiving are they in comparison, as well as feel? I would like to try it out myself, unfortunately, due to a lack of left handed mizzy's in-store I havent yet.

Just bought my new set of Mp-52s to replace my Pings yesterday. They are fantastic! Been playing blades for the last 3 years, and was a bit hesitant to change. However, once I got to the shop and tested them out, I bought them on the spot. Every shot I hit felt flush, so smooth, even the ones I didnt catch dead center. And the workability is great as well, I don't see any difference between the Mizunos and my S59's I replaced. Recommend them to anyone!

Next time they give you all that civic bullshit about voting, keep in mind that Hitler was elected in a full, free democratic election- George Carlin

Hitting demo 5-irons with Exsar graphite shafts, I found the MP-52s, MP-57s, and MP-62s virtually undistinguishable. I don't need irons, but I could be happy with any one of them.

They've got a more comfortable hit than pure blades where the sweetspot is too close to the shaft, but they don't play like big game improvement irons, either.

I've had my MP 52's for about a month. I am happy with everything about them. It's hard to go wrong with Mizuno equipment, and the 52's are an MP that is almost as easy to hit as MX's.

I don't agree here.

I've demoed all three sets along with the Titleist AP-2s several times over the past month in deciding which set to buy. I think the difference between the 52s & 62s is quite large. If you don't have a well-grooved swing that catches the sweet spot nearly everytime, forget playing the 62s, you are punished pretty badly on mishits. I'm about a 10 handicap & I'm nowhere near good enough to hit the 62s consistently. IMO, unless you're a mid single or lower, I think the 62s are too much club.

Got my MP52s today, and went through a dynamic fitting with them. They were very well setup from the factory -- as ordered, and only required a few subtle little bendings. Will play them tomorrow -- I am pleased just from hitting them in the fitting room because they still felt as good as I thought when hitting another guy's set on the range, but these are set up for me. The loft is a degree stronger than I now play (PW=47 rather than 48) but I think this is the standard loft for Mizunos, so I did not have the lofts changed. Another couple of yards should be no problem. Looking at the impacts on the faces and feeling the flush shots was very encouraging -- I'm excited now.

Sorry, I don't know about the GIs.

I was wondering because I would need to get golfsmith to order them into the store, but since it is a 2 hour drive each way, Im not sure if its worth it right now.

Most people say they are very easy to hit, And they look very nice, and from what everyone says they feel like butter, so... I'm perplexed atm.

I just went in to Roger Dunn's today and hit a bunch of irons. They recommended me X-22 Tours, Adams A4, and the Mizuno MP-52's.

52's felt the best at of all of them. Demo'd the 6 iron, and hit it 205-210, with a swing speed at 83 MPH. Felt really good and really smooth. So when I save up enough money I will be rocking these irons at 1/2 inch longer and 2* upright. Can't wait!

TyCobb, interesting, can you write which shaft you were testing with the club please? I had same swing speed on fitting but somehow I hit them 55 yards shorter... (a bit short for me) - but it was 3deg C outside and I had a wind blowing (a bit) towards me...
I was hitting TT Dynamic Gold SL Reg, and I am thinking now to order them with a TT DG High Launch or even Nippon N.S.Pro 950 GH stiff? I might not be hitting sweet spot deadly, but I was close (balls went straight, and I have almost same trajectory with MX-200..).

They were S300's, but I'm not sure how accurate the computer fitting systems are. And my hits were right on the button. I only know because when they fit me, they taped up the sole and face to see where the club made contact with the ground and ball.

If it helps, I hit both Callaway and Taylormade's TP (slightly smaller "tour player" versions) of their X and r7 irons. As some one who plays a club very much like the MP62 (Bridgestone J33), I just could not get comfortable with the hard faces of GI irons. I wanted to try something new. I know GI irons can hit the ball as well as any club and it is all about what you are used to feeling, so I don't think you can go wrong with any of the modern clubs. If you are a lower handicap player or when you become a lower handicap player, you naturally gravitate to forged and more muscle back type feel to work the ball. But increasingly, you are seeing forged muscle backs with cavities on the tours, especially with some younger players. The MP52s are sort of like TP versions. They have a dual muscle back design and a cavity with open bar, with a lower cg. I like the smaller than GI look and the thinner top line. But that is just because of always hitting thin blade like clubs. JMHO

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
