controling distance from bunkers?

Greenside bunker shots, for me anyway, are completley based on feel. Ill take a few practice strokes outside of the bunker to get a feel of the stroke i want to use to get the ball at my target. I dont worry about swing lenth at all. The only mechanincal things i focus on is accellerating through the shot and making sure to slide the clubface under the ball. I will open or close the face depending on how high or low i want the ball to pop out. I tend to have the most success with a ballfight that just clears the lip of the bunker about a 12 inches or so.

For fairway bunkers or bunker shots over 50 yards its all club that controls distance. I will usually club up and choke down. With those shots im just tring to get the ball torwards the hole. Im not really trying to control anything.

I also use the same wedge no matter what green side bunker I am in. I usually don't open my stance that much...I am more of a square stance bunker player. I adjust distance based on swing length and speed more than anything. My length doesn't change as much as my swing speed does (still very minimal change). The club face is determined based on how deep the bunker is and how much green I have to work with. FOLLOW THROUGH is definitely a must!! No follow through = back in the bunker. For fairway bunkers, I generally use whatever club the distance calls for and hit it just like a regular shot with the exception of trying to pick it a little more cleanly. This is of course on a flat lie.
