Does anyone know if MacGregor golf are still around?

It just crossed my mind that I haven't heard of them releasing anyhting for a long time, and haven't seen their stuff for sale anywhere.

I checked out the website and its not updated since last summer.

Have they gone

I think they are gone. They released their MT line of clubs and then they went under if I'm not mistaken. I could be wrong though.

From GolfWeek Magazine:

MacGregor sells inventory in fire sale
By ADAM SCHUPAK
Senior Writer

The future of one of golf’s most storied brands is in doubt.

In recent months, MacGregor Golf, the second-oldest golf equipment company in the United States, has endured a dwindling of staff and defection of top management executives. Now, it is liquidating at least some of its inventory.

“We’ve been picking up some of it at rock-bottom prices,” said Mark Marney, owner and chief executive of The Golf Warehouse. According to the merchandiser’s Web site, the MacGregor Bobby Grace DCT series putters, for example, have been marked down from $169 to $49.88.

The inventory fire sale follows MacGregor’s 11th-hour withdrawal from January’s PGA Merchandise Show and offering no product introductions this season.

The Albany, Ga.-based company, whose ownership group includes Greg Norman, already sold apparel maker Greg Norman Collection to New York-based Tharanco Group on Feb. 2, and a MacGregor spokesperson acknowledged that the company’s Asian subsidiary, which it had owned since 2003, was purchased in a management buyout.

According to a former MacGregor employee, the company has been on the block for months. That source as well as another retail observer said at least one major retailer considered buying the remaining assets of MacGregor and making it a house brand. The industry rumor mill has speculated extensively about a potential MacGregor buyer, including reports that one of its international distributors could be a suitor.

Meanwhile, MacGregor’s staff has been depleted. President and CEO Michael Setola joined Greg Norman Collection; putter designer Bobby Grace resigned in June; Reid Gorman, who preceded Setola as president, left the company in October; and the sales staff has been gutted.

They are certainly in financial trouble. But why not make the most of the discounts as they make great clubs and particularly irons. I just picked up a great deal on a set of MT Pro-C Irons on a 3balls golf auction and they are brand spanking new with the heads still in shrink wrap.

Greg Norman has also now signed an equipment deal with Taylor-Made which doesn't say much for the future of MacGregor when he is apparently still a major shareholder.

this is too bad. IMO, the best forged iron for the price. What went wrong here? Is it just the golf stuff or the entire company?

Sad to see such a storied company go under. But, also took advantage of the situation and picked up my new combo set of MT OS (2 hybrids, 6 irons) coupled with a 4W from rockbottomgolf at a great price. Perhaps they may come back in some way, shape or form in the future. Good luck to them.

Article in Golf World this week about MacGregor and other equipment companies that have had some tough times (Wilson, Ram) and have limited or no tour exposure (Wilson has Harrington)... Interesting article, mentions Norman signing with TaylorMade which was posted here earlier... And a photo of Nicklaus wearing pants that would make Ian Poulter proud

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
