Regripped driver... sounds different than before?

I regripped my driver this weekend and played my first round of the year today. The performance and feel of the club didn't change (aside from the size of grip), but there was a noticeable change in sound. I just bought the driver this year and had only hit it on the range prior today. The only things I can think of are: I added a new grip with 3 layer of tape underneath -or- the different sound comes from hitting range balls vs. Nike One Platinums. Can these factors change the sound the club makes? Or did I mess something up (I did the work myself)?

In my bag:

Driver: Burner Draw 9.5*
3W: X 15*
5W: X 19*Irons: 200 Series 4-PWWedges: CG11 50*, 56*, 60*Putter: Rossa Monza SpiderBall: One Black

hitting a different ball can affect sound. depending on the change in sound the grip can be dampening the vibrations or not even absorbing them and that can make it louder.
Driver: Taylormade R9

Really? thats wierd. I wouldnt think the grip would effect the sound of the clubhead as it makes impact with the ball.
